Abstract

Side scan sonar survey as one of the geophysics methods is still scarcely applied in underwater archaeological research in Indonesia. This paper describes the application of side scan sonar survey in mapping riverbed and identifying underwater archaeological remains in the “Sungai Brantas in the Perspective of Maritime Cultural Landscape” project, as well as interpreting its historical context based on survey results. This paper also explores the development of utilizing side scan sonar in underwater archaeological research in Indonesia, particularly in rivers. Data was acquisitioned by using the side scan sonar Starfish 450H and GNSS Trimble R8s positioning system. The interpretation was drawn by analysing related Dutch old maps and archives to understand the historical context of the survey findings. The result shows clay and silt sediment covering most of the riverbed and a number of objects, possibly shipwrecks, estimated as from the nineteenth century. The survey result has a medium to high accuracy. Thus, this method is able to serve as an efficient instrument for underwater archaeological research, especially in the low-visibility waters.

Abstract

Zakat plays a strategic role in supporting socio-economic development and equitable welfare distribution in Indonesia. However, the optimization of national zakat potential still faces a significant gap between estimated potential and actual collection. This article aims to analyze the role of regulation and public policy in strengthening national zakat governance by highlighting regulatory dynamics, institutional effectiveness, and the synergy between the government, the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS), and Zakat Management Organizations (LAZ). The study employs a qualitative approach with descriptive-analytical methods through literature review, secondary data, and policy comparisons based on academic works and institutional reports. The findings indicate that zakat regulation, particularly after the enactment of Law No. 23 of 2011, provides a stronger legal foundation for zakat institutions but still encounters challenges in harmonizing technical regulations, fostering multisectoral coordination, and implementing modern governance standards based on digitalization. The analysis also reveals that public policies adaptive to socio-economic and technological developments play a significant role in enhancing transparency, accountability, and public trust. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of reformulating zakat policies to be more integrative with the national development agenda, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as strengthening regulatory systems capable of driving zakat realization closer to its national potential.

Abstract

This study highlights the acceleration of Indonesia’s halal industry, which has undergone a significant transformation from merely fulfilling domestic needs to becoming a strategic pillar of the national economy. This development is driven by the regulatory mandate of the Halal Product Assurance Law and the growing global consumer demand for product integrity. The study aims to comprehensively analyze the fundamental role of digital innovation and the integration of sustainability principles (thayyiban) in promoting product diversification across the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, tourism, and Islamic finance sectors during the period of 2019 to 2025. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method using a Systematic Literature Review of reputable journals (Scopus and Sinta) to map strategic trends and identify theoretical gaps. In total, 85 peer-reviewed articles were systematically analyzed, resulting in the development of an integrated conceptual framework that synthesizes digital technology adoption, sustainability ethics, and halal industry diversification. The findings firmly indicate that the adoption of blockchain and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies within the Halal Supply Chain framework represents a fundamental innovation that enhances transparency, operational efficiency, and consumer trust. These findings serve as a crucial foundation for product diversification aligned with the Maqasid Shariah. The main contribution of this study lies in the formulation of an integrated framework that explicitly connects technological innovation, sustainability ethics, and multisector diversification patterns. This framework provides substantial policy recommendations to strengthen the global competitiveness of the national halal ecosystem   Keywords: Halal Industry, Digital Innovation, Product Diversification, Halal Supply Chain, Sustainability

Abstract

This study uses a bibliometric analysis of the publication trends of Islamic fintech from 2017 to 2025.  The purpose of this study is to observe the development of publications on sharia fintech and find future research avenues and opportunities. The results of the data obtained were analyzed using quantitative-descriptive methods through the Publish or Perish application, Microsoft Excel, and VOSviewer after being collected from Google Scholar using the keyword "sharia fintech". The results show that the number of publications increased from 2017 to reaching its peak in 2023, but experienced a drastic decline in 2024 and 2025. Through bibliometric analysis, topic mapping found five main clusters: Islamic banking services, the development of sharia-based digital crowdfunding, post-COVID-19 digital transformation, and the integration or incorporation of sharia principles and technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI). The results of the visualization of trends regarding sharia fintech have undergone a change from the pandemic to the development of halal technology and sharia business models. This research makes an important contribution in enriching our understanding of the direction and gaps of research that are still open in the future. This study enhances our understanding of the progress of Islamic fintech and encourages collaboration between academics, regulators, and industry players to create innovative, inclusive digital solutions to develop Islamic fintech that is in accordance with Islamic principles and meets the needs of modern society.

Abstract

This study assesses halal certification and implementation of halal tourism practices in selected tourist destinations on Madura Island, Indonesia, namely Pasarean Syaikhona Kholil, Asta Tinggi, Lon Malang Beach and Bukit Tinggi Daramista. Using a qualitative case study design, data were gathered through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, participant observation and document analysis and were evaluated using halal tourism indicators derived from Islamic jurisprudence, national halal certification regulations, and ulama-based guidelines. The findings indicate that although these destinations do not formally designate themselves as halal tourism sites, they have substantially integrated halal tourism principles into their management and services as reflected in the availability of halal food and beverages, adequate worship facilities, cleanliness and sanitation, the absence of non-halal activities and strong managerial commitment to Islamic values supported by religious authorities. From the perspective of Islamic law particularly through the framework of maqāṣid asy-syarī’ah, fiqh mu’āmalah and fiqh al-ʿādāt, these practices demonstrate substantive compliance with Syarī’ah objectives in safeguarding religious observance, public welfare, moral integrity and economic justice. Nevertheless, the persistence of partial halal certification, limited disability-friendly infrastructure and fragmented Islamic information systems underscores the need for gradual institutional strengthening, improved regulatory coordination and closer collaboration with halal certification authorities to enhance the sustainability and legal certainty of halal tourism development in Madura.

Abstract

Single Lane Free Flow (SLFF), known as “Let It Flo,” is a contactless toll payment system based on RFID technology developed by PT Jasamarga to reduce transaction time and queuing at toll gates. However, its implementation has not been fully effective due to low user adoption. This study aims to identify the implementation of SLFF, analyze vehicle flow, service time, service level, and delay time between the E-Toll and SLFF systems, as well as evaluate user perceptions toward the system. The analysis applies queuing theory using vehicle survey data collected at the Bekasi Timur 2 Toll Gate on January 13, 16, and 18, 2025, and questionnaires distributed to toll road users. The results show that SLFF is only used by four-wheeled light vehicles with a low adoption rate of two vehicles per hour compared to 343 vehicles per hour for E-Toll. Nevertheless, SLFF can reduce delay time by 0.6 seconds per vehicle and increase service capacity with a projected result of 6,000 vehicles per hour, significantly higher than the E-Toll system’s capacity of 957 vehicles per hour. The system eliminates queues and reduces congestion with a service intensity below one (ρ < 1), while users report improved safety and comfort due to non-stop and contactless transactions. The main challenges include limited infrastructure, restricted gate availability, ongoing application development, and limited technological information on the SLFF/Flo system. Therefore, infrastructure expansion, application improvement, and government support are essential to accelerate adoption and enhance the performance of the toll system in Indonesia.
