Abstract

Women’s leadership in literature and film remains a crucial issue, as it is often overshadowed bymale dominance, despite the fact that female representation on screen can serve as an importantmedium to affirm equality and foster discussions on women’s courage in facing gender- and racebaseddiscrimination. This study aims to analyze the character of Katherine Johnson in the filmHidden Figures as a representation of Black women’s leadership that succeeds in transcending socialand professional barriers. The research employs a descriptive method with a feminist literarycriticism approach, situating Katherine within the framework of third-wave feminism, whichemphasizes resilience, courage, and women’s struggles in the public sphere. The findings revealthree main aspects of Katherine’s leadership: her accuracy in calculating NASA’s rocket trajectories, her efforts to gain recognition in strategic meeting rooms previously closed to Black women, andher persistence in resisting racial and gender discrimination. These findings highlight that Hidden Figures portrays transformational leadership that emphasizes equality, inspiration, and socialchange, while also serving as an inspiration for contemporary discussions of women’s leadershipand showing relevance to gender equality issues within the framework of the SDGs. Future researchmay broaden the scope by comparing women’s leadership representations in other films or culturalcontexts; however, this study remains limited by its focus on a single character, which does not fullycapture the complexity of women’s.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of transformational leadership style embodied by thecharacter Ucup in the film Mencuri Raden Saleh. In the digital age, films as popular media productsnot only serve as entertainment but also become an effective means of conveying social andleadership values to the younger generation through technological platforms such as streamingservices and social media. However, even though technology has expanded access to and the reachof film content, there is still a lack of in-depth academic studies highlighting how transformationalleadership is represented in Indonesian local films. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approachby analyzing several key scenes to identify four dimensions of transformational leadership: idealinfluence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration. Thefindings show that Ucup exhibits charismatic leadership, motivating his team through a sharedvision, stimulating creativity in problem-solving under pressure, and recognizing the uniquepotential of each member. This representation suggests that transformational leadership is notlimited to formal organizations but can also grow in informal groups, and through digital media, these values can reach a wider audience and become a source of leadership inspiration in thecontemporary social context.

Abstract

Indonesia has a long history of patriarchal culture that places men as dominant and often restricts women's freedom of movement. This condition has given rise to gender inequality that persists to this day, making the issue of women's representation in the media, particularly in film, an important topic to examine. This study aims to analyze how the film Sri Asih (2022) represents women as superheroes amidst a patriarchal culture and its implications for the construction of gender roles in society. The study used a qualitative method with a narrative semiotic approach at the levels of reality and representation. Data were obtained through observation of scenes in the film and relevant supporting literature, then linked to theories of representation and feminism to uncover the meaning behind the depiction of Alana/Sri Asih. The results show that Sri Asih is portrayed as a brave, independent woman with the strength to challenge male domination. In various scenes, Alana appears not as a passive object but as an active subject who plays a role in fighting oppression, freeing citizens from exploitation, and becoming a symbol of new hope for society. This representation challenges traditional gender stereotypes that place women in a subordinate position, while also opening up new perspectives on gender equality in the public sphere. This research has had a positive impact in strengthening the understanding that film can be a crucial aspect in fostering collective awareness regarding women's empowerment. Future research could expand the study by comparing the representation of female superheroes in Indonesian and international films to broaden perspectives on gender construction in popular media.

Abstract

Education is a crucial pillar in developing the quality of human resources and shaping a nation’s progress. Yet, the condition of education in Indonesia still encounters many challenges, ranging from macro-level issues such as curriculum complexity, unequal access, high costs, and teacher competence, to micro-level problems like weak morals, poor character, and frequent cases of moral deviation. This research applies a qualitative approach through literature review and film analysis, using Laskar Pelangi as the main source to explore the application of educational theories. Findings indicate that the film portrays the determination of children in Lenggang Village to pursue education despite severe limitations. The educational practices illustrated in the film align with various theories, including behaviorism, constructivism, humanism, character education, creativity, multiple intelligences, and motivation. Teachers are shown not only as knowledge transmitters but also as mentors, role models, and motivators who nurture moral values, character, and learning enthusiasm. A paradox emerges when, on one hand, facilities and infrastructure are deemed vital for quality education, but the film demonstrates that persistence, student eagerness, and teacher dedication can compensate for such shortcomings. This highlights that educational achievement is influenced more by the integration of values, character, and motivation than by infrastructure alone. Ultimately, education that emphasizes humanistic values, moral development, and the optimization of student potential can create a generation with integrity, creativity, and resilience in facing global challenges, even though gaps between theory and practice remain.

Abstract

This study aims to understand how situational leadership is reflected in dealing with crises through the story in the movie The Lion King. This study is based on Hersey and Blanchard's situational leadership theory, which emphasizes four main styles, namely command, persuasion, participation, and delegation. The method used is qualitative descriptive analysis by examining the storyline, characters, and leadership dynamics of the main characters, especially Simba, in facing various challenges. The results show that situational leadership is clearly evident in Simba's journey, from his dependent childhood to his maturity as a king. However, each leadership style is present at different stages of development: the command style emerges when Simba still needs guidance, the persuasion style is evident when he receives encouragement to return, the participation style is seen when he works with his friends, and the delegation style emerges after he becomes king by placing trust in his environment. Overall, The Lion King not only depicts the dynamics of situational leadership in the face of crisis, but also presents valuable lessons about the importance of adaptive leadership that is relevant in real life.

Abstract

Technology is one of the keys to the success of SMEs. However, this is not the case in areas with limited knowledge and special skills in operating technology. Creativity and innovation in batik in Madura grew significantly along with assistance from the local government. With adequate production potential and sufficient capital, batik sales must increase. It cannot increase the poverty level in Candi Burung Village, Pamekasan Regency. Welfare improvement has not occurred due to a lack of knowledge about how to develop product innovation and does not have the skills to promote the work to the fullest. Therefore, this service aims to introduce e-commerce and social media applications, product innovation training, and develop a mobile series application system that can make it easier for batik artisans to support batik works. The methods that will be used are: creating an andragogy training application that maximizes the participation of artisans to think critically and have a dialogue by organizing socialization on the use of applications and developing promotions through digital marketing platforms. This service is carried out with the hope that it can advance the knowledge and skills as well as the ability of artisans to carry out the process of distributing their work which in turn can improve the welfare of the artisans.

Abstract

As a country with a high number of internet users, online activities such as shopping have become a trend among students. However, these transactions are often accompanied by legal issues, such as receiving items that do not match the description, delayed deliveries, defective products, and uncertainties regarding returns. These problems result in losses for buyers, mainly due to their lack of understanding of consumer rights and business obligations. To address these challenges, this community service activity was conducted with the aim of enhancing students' understanding of consumer rights in online transactions, as well as their knowledge of the obligations and restrictions for business actors, in order to minimize both material and immaterial losses. This community service was carried out at SMAN 8 Pinrang using a double blended method, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches through three stages of counseling: pre-test, material presentation, and post-test. During the counseling sessions, students were provided with explanations regarding consumer rights and legal protections in online transactions. The results showed a high level of enthusiasm from participants, as well as a significant increase in their understanding of consumer rights and business obligations after the activity. Based on the post-test results, students' understanding of consumer rights increased from 0% to 100%, and all participants were also able to understand the restrictions that business actors must follow. The implications of this activity demonstrate that consumer protection legal education is effective in raising students' legal awareness and equipping them with the ability to address online transaction issues more critically and responsibly
