Abstract

Background: Intertriginous candidiasis is a type of candidiasis which the lesion lies in the folds of the armpit, groin, intergluteal, folding of the breast, between the fingers or the toes, glans penis, and the umbilicus. One of the risk factors for intertriginous candidiasis is diabetes mellitus (DM). DM is a typical clinical syndrome characterized by the presence of hyperglycemia which is caused by deficiency or the decrease of insulin effectivity. Fungal infection of the skin with Candida species becomes easier in patients with immunocompromised conditions such as DM patients. Objective: To identify the Candida species in DM patient's skin.Method: This research is an observational descriptive study with cross sectional design. This research identifies Candida species from 30 DM patients at The Public Health Center Sentosa BaruMedan who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria by skin scraping with KOH 10% and slide culture.RESULTS: The location of the rash was found in the crotch folds 63.3% and in the intergluteal 36.7%. All samples (100%) showed positive fungus structure with KOH 10% examination. On theexamination of slide culture with Saboraoud Dextrose Agar media and identification of slide colony with Corn Meal Agar medium as many as 60% Candida spesies was found with overallspecies are Candida albicans. Conclusions: The identification of Candida Species on the skin of DM patients showed as many as 60% Candida albicans was found

Abstract

Typhoid fever is an acute febrile disease caused by Salmonella typhi bacteria that is obtained orally either through food or from drinks. Many immunological activities that occur due to salmonella infection so that immunomodulators are needed to speed up the healing of one of them by using pirdot leaves. Pirdot leaves are widely distributed in Indonesia, especially in the Lake Toba area of North Sumatra. This plant has many bioactive components, one of which is flavonoids. The flavonoid component of pirdot Leaf has been widely studied and is believed to improve the immune system because it is able to increase the production of IL-2 which is involved in the activation and proliferation of lymphocyte cells and can increase T CD4 cells. T CD4+ it self is a signal transduction marker in the mechanism of typhoid fever that can activate Antigen Precenting Cell (APC) to provide resistance to foreign substances.

Abstract

This research investigates risk factors for stunting among toddlers aged 24-59 months in the working area of the Cibodasari Puskesmas Community Health Center in Tangerang City. Stunting, defined as height-for-age z-scores (HAZ) below -2 standard deviations from the median of the WHO Child Growth Standards, remains a significant public health concern in Indonesia, impacting child health and development. Through a cross-sectional study design, data were collected on maternal and child characteristics, household socio-economic status, feeding practices, access to healthcare services, and environmental factors. Statistical analyses, including bivariate and multivariable regression analyses, were conducted to identify risk factors associated with stunting prevalence. Key findings reveal a high prevalence of stunting among toddlers in the study population, with significant associations observed with maternal nutrition, household socio-economic status, feeding practices, access to healthcare services, and environmental factors. The implications of the findings for public health policies and interventions are discussed, emphasizing the importance of multi-sectoral approaches, early intervention strategies, socio-economic empowerment, enhanced healthcare access, environmental health interventions, and community engagement efforts in reducing stunting prevalence and improving child health outcomes within the community. These findings contribute valuable evidence to inform targeted interventions aimed at addressing the root causes of stunting and promoting child health and well-being in Tangerang City.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the facts that occur in the field, namely the lack of students' understanding in writing drama texts. In addition, there are still many teachers who use conventional learning models, namely lectures without involving students. Thus, researchers want to compare the application of learning media based on Animaker and conventional learning models, namely lectures. This study used a quasi-experimental method with non-equivalent pre-test post-test control group design. The population in this study was class VIII SMPN 1 Rawamerta with purposive sampling and two classes were selected, namely class VIII-J (N=40) as the experimental class using animated media based on the Animaker application and class VIII-F (N=40) as the experimental class. the control class uses the lecture learning model. Based on the results of data processing using SPSS 16 Software for Windows, it can be concluded that animation media based on the Animaker application is better than the lecture learning model and there are significant differences in results. It was obtained that the average pretest scores of the two classes were relatively the same before being given treatment, namely 71.5 for the experimental class and 65.9 for the control class. Then the value of the posttest experimental class is worth 83.55 and the control class is worth 72.32. Furthermore, the N-Gain value for the experimental class is 58.06% and the control class is 22.94%. This means that there are significant differences between the experimental class and the control class.

Abstract

Intestinal protozoan infections have been reported worldwide with highly variable prevalence rates, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. Despite this, limited research has been conducted on intestinal protozoan infections over the past decade, both in Indonesia and specifically in North Sumatra. Therefore, further investigation into the prevalence and risk factors of intestinal parasitic infections, especially protozoan infections, in areas surrounding Medan is warranted. This cross-sectional study assessed the association between risk factors and intestinal parasitic infections among 136 residents of Sunggal District, Deli Serdang, selected using consecutive sampling. Participants underwent interviews to evaluate risk factors using a checklist and provided fecal samples, as well as livestock samples if applicable. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test and Fisher's exact test. Results revealed a significant association between age and Protozoa infection (p = 0.001), helminth infection (p = 0.0002), and overall parasitic infection (p = 0.0001). However, no significant associations were found for other variables. Furthermore, sanitation and hygiene levels were not significantly associated with parasitic infections (p > 0.05). These findings suggest that the risk factors assessed in this study were not significantly associated with intestinal protozoan infections. Nonetheless, the prevalence of both overall parasitic infections and protozoan infections remains high, with a spectrum ranging from asymptomatic to symptomatic cases. Further research is needed to elucidate the complex interplay of factors contributing to the persistence of these infections in the region.
