Abstract

Family support is very influential in the success of hypertension care management through health education or information education about hypertension care, one of which is by using a pocket book containing information about hypertension care management for the elderly. The aim of the research was to determine the family's ability to manage hypertension in the elderly using a pocket book. This research uses a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group design approach. of 70 families selected by purposive sampling. Data was collected using a pretest in the treatment group and control group to determine the basic values used to determine the influence of the independent variables. The treatment group was given intervention through the provision of pocket books; while the control group received a booklet about high blood pressure. The results of data collection were analyzed using univariate and bivariate using the t test. The results of this study found that after the intervention was implemented in the intervention group there were differences in knowledge, attitudes and skills between the intervention group and the control group. Researchers suggest using pocket books as a medium to increase the family's ability to manage hypertension in the elderly.

Abstract

Non-invasive blood sugar testing tools are now in great demand among the public. This research aims to develop a non-invasive blood sugar examination tool with a Photopletysmograph signal decoding system based on data acquisition from a wearable sensor device on the wrist. The tool used for data acquisition uses Near Infra Red Light-emitting Diode NIR LED 880 nm, 660 nm and 537 nm. This acquisition transfers signals from the body via a photodiode to a PC Personal Computer for processing using Matlab. The method used in this research is to look for the height of the systolic and diastolic amplitude of the Photopletysmograph PPG signal and use the peak-to-peak voltage Vpp to implement Beer Lambert's law. This method was tested on 54 people, randomly aged 26-89 years, with normal blood sugar to high blood sugar. The results show an error of 18.37% from the gold standard. In conclusion, the use of the PPG signal decoding method has proven to be significant in producing blood sugar values. Furthermore, this method was developed for real-time remote measurements via wearable sensor devices.

Abstract

This research explores the relationship between specific characteristics of banks and their profitability. Bank profitability is related to external and internal factors regarding assets, capital, and loans in general. This study is mainly concerned with internal factors that influence the profitability of commercial banks in Indonesia. 55 Banks including 51 National Private Banks, and 4 Public Sector Banks. Data taken in its entirety from the Financial Services Authority website in 2023. Using the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method with the help of Stata software. The results of the research show that in a simultaneous test, the asset, capital, and loan variables have a positive and significant effect on profitability with the figure obtained being 78% while other variables explain the rest, while in a partial test, the asset and bank loan variables harm bank profitability, and only the capital variable which is positively related to profitability by 86%, and the rest is explained by other variables. This shows that large banks may face similar challenges as marginal profits decrease as targets must be achieved because in fact the bank Asset and Loan variables are also expected to be the main source of income so that they have a positive relationship with bank performance.

Abstract

A condition called hypertension affects the blood vessels when the patient's systolic and diastolic blood pressures are more than 140 and 90 mmHg, respectively. Pain scale and blood pressure in elderly hypertensive patients can be affected by religious music therapy and progressive muscle relaxation techniques that stretch muscles and increase calmness. The research design used was a quantitative pre-post quasi-experiment with a control group. This study involved 32 hypertensive elderly residents of Bengkulu Tresna Werdha Social Home as the population. Then the respondents were divided into two groups: 16 people in the intervention group and 16 people in the control group. For six consecutive days, the intervention group received a combination of progressive muscle relaxation and religious music therapy for 15 minutes every day. The findings showed that the cytolic, diastolic, and pain scales in elderly people with hypertension decreased after being given combined therapy with progressive muscle relaxation and religious music therapy (p value = 0.000). It is hoped that the results of this study can provide knowledge about complementary therapies that can be given to the elderly suffering from hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Dietary fiber is essential for maintaining digestive health, especially during emergencies with limited food availability. Objectives: To analyze the chemical, microbiological, and nutritional properties of high-fiber cereal bars designed as emergency food. Methods: This study used an experimental design. The cereal bars were made from rice crisps and oats and tested based on chemical and microbiological parameters. Chemical analysis included dietary fiber, carbohydrates, protein, fat, minerals, and vitamins while the microbiological analysis covered total plate count (TPC) and detection of pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus aureus in accordance with food safety standards from the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM). The testing was conducted from November 3–15, 2023, at PT Saraswanti Indo Genetech laboratory, Indonesia. Results: The test showed that the mixed berry cereal bar contained 9.43% dietary fiber, exceeding BPOM standards. The product was free from heavy metal contamination (arsenic, cadmium, mercury, lead, and tin) and showed no trans fats. Microbiological tests confirmed that the product was safe from pathogenic microbes, with total plate count (TPC) and Enterobacteriaceae  within safe limits. The product also did not contain Salmonella or Staphylococcus aureus. Conclusions: This high-fiber cereal bar meets strict food safety and nutritional standards, making it suitable for development as emergency food. Its high fiber content and lack of harmful contaminants make it safe and nutritious for disaster victims. Continued testing and development with diverse flavors and formulations are recommended to improve acceptance across age groups in emergency situations.

Abstract

Background: Cognitive changes in the elderly are a natural consequence of the degenerative process. In this process, sleep quality becomes an important factor affecting cognitive function. While it is known that prolonged sleep disturbances can increase the risk of cognitive impairment in the elderly, few studies have specifically explored the relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function in the context of the elderly in elderly residents. Aim: To determine the relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function in elderly residents. Methods: This study used a quantitative method with a descriptive-analytic design and a cross-sectional approach. The research population comprised all elderly residents of Tresna Werdha Social Institution Budi Mulia 3 in Jakarta, totaling 282 individuals, with a sample size of 80 elderly individuals selected using simple random sampling. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires, and data analysis was performed using the Chi-square test. Results: The results showed that the majority had good sleep quality (55%) and normal cognitive function (51.2%). There is a significant relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function (p=0.000) with an OR value of 19.444. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function in the elderly. Recommendations: Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that nurses carry out community-based interventions, such as sleep health education activities and stress management, to support comprehensive elderly health. Further research is recommended to develop and test the effectiveness of non-pharmacological-based interventions, such as cognitive behavioural therapy and meditation techniques, in improving the quality of elderly sleep. Keywords: cognitive function; elderly; sleep quality.
