Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian sociolinguistic yang bertujuan untuk (1) menganalisa macam macam bentuk strategi komunikasi yang digunakan oleh guru matematika dan sains dalam berkomunikasi dengan bahasa Inggris di kegiatan morning sharing di SMP Nasional Plus Jembatan Budaya; (2) mendeskripsikan usaha usaha dari guru matematika dan sains dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berkomunikasi dengan bahasa Inggris; dan (3) mendeskripsikan persepsi dari guru matematika dan sains tentang berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris. Tiga subjek telah dipilih untuk penelitian ini. Subjek pertama dan kedua adalah guru sains yang telah lulus sarjana pendidikan sains dan subjek yang terakhir adalah guru matematika yang telah lulus sarjana pendidikan matematika. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan non-participant observation dan in-depth interview. Data yang diperoleh dianalisa secara deskriptif dan kualitatif. Hasil analisis yang telah didapatkan adalah sebagai berikut: (1) terdapat empat macam strategy komunikasi yang telah digunakan, yaitu: modification device, paralinguistic, L1 ? based, dan L2 ? based, dari semua itu yang sering muncul adalah modification devise, oleh karena itu bisa disimpulkan guru matematika dan sains ingin menjaga komunikasi agar berjalan lancar; (2) terdapat enam usaha usaha untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berkomunikasi dalam bahasa inggris oleh guru matematika dan sains, yaitu: belajar bahasa Inggris dengan guru local bahasa Inggris, berlatih dengan murid, menonton film dengan subtitle bahasa Inggris, belajar lebih intensif, berlatih terus menerus, belajar bahasa Inggris dengan berbagi atau bertanya kepada guru bahasa Inggris; dan (3) guru matematika dan sains setuju bahwa bahasa Inggris itu penting untuk beberapa alasan, terutama: untuk pekerjaan mereka sebagai guru di sekolah nasional plus, gaji dan perkembangan mereka untuk jadi lebih profesional.Kata Kunci : strategi strategi komunikasi, guru matematika dan sains, sekolah nasional plus, bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa luar negeri This study was a sociolinguistic study which aimed at (1) analyzing the kinds of communication strategies used by mathematics and science teachers to communicate in English in morning sharing at SMP Nasional Plus Jembantan Budaya; (2) describing the mathematics and science teachers? efforts to improve their ability to communicate in English; and (3) describing the perception of the mathematics and science teachers about communicating in English. Three respondents were chosen in this study. The first and the second respondents were science teachers who possessed bachelor degrees in science education. The third respondent was mathematics teacher who possessed a bachelor degree in mathematics education. The data were collected through non-participant observation and in-depth interview. The collected data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The result of the analysis found that: (1) there were only four kinds of communication strategies identified in this study, namely: modification device, paralinguistic, L1-based, and L2-based strategies, of these, modification device was the most frequently used by the respondents in order to keep the conversation going smoothly; (2) there were six efforts done by the mathematics and science teachers to improve their English, they are: studying more about English with English local teacher, practicing English with students, watching movies in the English subtitle, studying English intensively, practicing English continuously and habitually, studying English by sharing or asking for English teachers; and (3) both mathematics and science teachers agreed that English is important for some reasons, especially: for their job as teachers in a national plus school, salary and their professional development.keyword : communicative strategies, mathematics and science teachers, national plus school, English as a foreign language

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out (1) types of speech acts produced by the English native teacher and local teachers in English teaching and learning activities, (2) the differences in terms of speech acts used by the English native teacher and local teachers in teaching and learning English, (3) the English native teacher and local teachers? reasons in using certain types of speech acts in teaching and learning English, (4) the types of politeness strategies produced by the English native teacher and local teachers in teaching and learning English, (5) the differences in terms of politeness strategies used by the English native teacher and local teachers in teaching and learning English, and (6) the English native teacher and local teachers? reasons in using certain types of politeness strategies in teaching and learning English. This study was carried out at Dyatmika Kindergarten as a school with bilingual program. This study used a descriptive qualitative design. Observation, questionnaire and interview were the methods of data collection. The data were analyzed by using Speech Acts Theory by Searle (1999) and Politeness Strategies by Brown and Levinson (1987). The results indicated that both the English native teacher and local teachers mostly used directives in the classroom to get the students to behave in the way that is expected by the teacher. Moreover, the English native teacher mostly used positive politeness in the classroom to build students? self-esteem and enthusiasm in learning. Besides, the local teachers mostly used positive politeness to build students? motivation in learning and get the students involved in classroom discussion. Also it was found that there were several aspects affecting the teachers in using certain speech acts and politeness strategies. keyword : speech acts, politeness strategies

Abstract

ABSTRAK Bahasa Inggris penting untuk dipelajari karena bahasa Inggris adalah bahasa Internasional. Dalam era globalisasi ini, guru bahasa Inggris dibutuhkan untuk membuat siswa mampu berbicara bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa internasional. Tetapi sebagai pendidik guru dihadapkan dengan banyak masalah dalam proses pembelajaran, termasuk perbedaan dalam kemampuan siswa dengan berbagai jenis kelamin. Sehingga sebagai pendidik, guru harus melakukan upaya untuk menemukan metode pembelajaran yang tepat. Metode bernomor Head Together dan Tiga Langkah Wawancara merupakan salah satu metode Cooperative Learning dan bisa menjadi metode pengajaran alternatif untuk guru. Proses strategi Pembelajaran Kooperatif dengan metode ini memiliki karakteristik seperti saling ketergantungan yang positif di kalangan siswa dalam kelompok, tanggung jawab individu, interaksi tatap muka, keterampilan sosial, kerja sama tim dan pengolahan kelompok juga harus diperhitungkan. Jadi selama beberapa dekade terakhir, pendidik telah menerapkan strategi Pembelajaran Kooperatif dalam upaya meningkatkan prestasi belajar siswa, meningkatkan literasi siswa dan kemampuan berbicara dalam menyajikan pendapat mereka. teknik Pembelajaran kooperatif telah dipelajari selama lebih dari 50 tahun dan telah dikaitkan secara positif dengan kinerja siswa. Teknik- teknik dalam Pembelajaran Kooperatif juga telah ditunjukkan untuk meningkatkan motivasi dan keterampilan belajar siswa. Metode pembelajaran kooperatif dapat memiliki dampak positif pada kelas. Kata Kunci : Metode Pembelajaran Kooperatif, Gender, Kompetensi Berbicara ABSTRACT English is important to be learned Because English is the International language. In this era of globalization, teacher of English language is required to make students able to speak English as an international language. But as educators of teachers are faced with many problems in the learning process, including the differences in the abilities of students with different gender. So that as educators, teachers should make efforts to find appropriate learning methods. Methods Numbered Head Together and Three Step Interview is one method of Cooperative Learning and could be alternative teaching methods for teachers. The process of Cooperative Learning strategies with this method has characteristics such as positive interdependence among students in a group, individual responsibility, face-to-face interaction, social skills, teamwork and group processing should also be taken into account. Thus during the past few decades, educators have implemented Cooperative Learning strategies in an effort to improve student achievement, improve student literacy and speaking competence in presenting their opinions. Cooperative Learning techniques have been studied for over 50 years and has been positively linked to the performance of students .Techniques of Cooperative Learning have also been shown to increase student motivation and skills of learning materials. Abstract

Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan materi bahan ajar penunjang Bahasa Inggris untuk siswa Kelas X SMA PGRI 6 Denpasar dalam mengimplementasi Kurikulum 2013. Pada studi ini, model R&D dari Sugiono digunakan sebagai prosedur penelitian. Dimulai dari menganalisis silabus kurikulum 2013. Dari analisis tersebut ditemukan ada Sembilan unit dalam materi bahan ajar penunjang bahasa Inggris. Tiap unit terdapat tema, topik, dan aktifitas-aktifitas. Dalam studi ini data didapat dari rubrik dan kuesioner. Rubrik berdasarkan kriteria materi yang baik menurut Tomlinson dan BSNP. Rubric ini diisi oleh ahli praktisi dan guru. Sedangkan kuesioner diisi oleh guru dan siswa. Dalam studi ini Pretest dan posttest juga dilakukan. Hasil dari pretest adalah 79, 08, sedangkan hasil dari posttest adalah 86,58. Ini menunjukkan bahwa hasil rata-rata posttest lebih tinggi dari pretest. Ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa materi bahan ajar penunjang bahasa Inggris ini efektif digunakan untuk mengajar bahasa Inggris pengimpementasi kurikulum 2013. Kata Kunci : Penunjang, Materi Bahan Ajar Bahasa Inggris, Kurikulum 2013 The aim of this study is to develop the supplementary English teaching materials for the tenth year students of SMA PGRI 6 Denpasar in implementing Curriculum 2013. In this study, the model of Research and Development by Sugiono was employed as the research procedures. It started from the need analysis. It was done by analyzing syllabus of curriculum 2013. From the need analysis, it was found that there were nine units in the supplementary English teaching materials. Each unit had a theme, a unit, and activities. In this study the data were obtained by using rubric and questionnaire taken from the criteria of a good material by Tomlinson and BSNP. The rubric was filled by the expert judgments and teacher, while the questionnaire was filled by teacher and students. In this study the pretest and posttest were also conducted. The result of pretest?s mean score was 79.08, and the posttest was 86.58. The result of posttest?s mean score is higher than pretest?s mean score. It can be concluded that the supplementary English teaching materials is effective to be used for teaching English in implementing curriculum 2013. keyword : Supplementary, English Teaching Materials, Curriculum 2013

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: (1) pengaruh penerapan Pendekatan Ilmiah yang dikombinasikan dengan gambar-gambar terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sebelas dilihat dari jenis teks di SMAN 1 Kuta Utara, (2) perbedaan pengaruh penerapan Pendekatan Ilmiah yang dikombinasikan dengan gambar-gambar terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sebelas dilihat dari jenis teks di SMAN 1 Kuta Utara. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan Post-test-Control Group Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI SMAN 1 Kuta Utara semester 2. Terdapat dua kelas yang digunakan sebagai sampel penelitian. Sampel penelitian yang digunakan yaitu melalui random sampling. Kelas XI MIA 6 ditunjuk sebagai kelas eksperimental dengan menggunakan metode pembelajaran Pendekatan IImiah dikombinasikan dengan gambar-gambar. Sementara kelas XI MIA 7 ditunjuk sebagai kelas kontrol yang menggunakan metode pembelajaran Pendekatan Ilmiah saja. Data diperoleh dari tes menulis. Hasil tes tersebut dianalisis dengan menggunakan ANOVA searah. Hasil dari analisis menunjukkan bahwa; (1) terdapat pengaruh penerapan Pendekatan Ilmiah yang dikombinasikan dengan gambar-gambar terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sebelas dilihat dari jenis teks di SMAN 1 Kuta Utara (? < 0.05), (2) tidak ada perbedaan pengaruh penerapan Pendekatan Ilmiah yang dikombinasikan dengan gambar-gambar terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sebelas dilihat dari jenis teks di SMAN 1 Kuta Utara (? > 0.05). Penelitian ini menyarankan kepada guru dan siswa untuk menggunakan gambar-gambar di dalam proses belajar mengajar menulis agar siswa mampu menata ide-ide mereka ke dalam bentuk kalimat dan paragraf. Kata Kunci : gambar-gambar, kemampuan menulis, pendekatan ilmiah. This present research aimed at finding out (1) the effect of Scientific Approach combined with Pictures on the eleventh grade students? writing competency viewed from text genres at SMAN 1 Kuta Utara, (2) the significant differences of the effect of Scientific Approach combined with Pictures on the eleventh grade students? writing competency viewed from text genres at SMAN 1 Kuta Utara. The research was designed with Post-test-Only Control-Group design. The population was the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Kuta Utara in the second semester. There were two classes chosen as the samples. The samples were selected through random sampling. Class XI MIA 6 was the experimental group which was treated by using Scientific Approach combined with Pictures. Meanwhile, class XI MIA 7 was the control group which was treated by using Scientific Approach only. The data were collected by conducting writing competency test. Post-test was conducted to each experimental and control group. The result of those tests was analyzed by using one way ANOVA. The result of the data showed that; (1) there was a significant effect of Scientific Approach combined with Pictures on the eleventh grade students? writing competency viewed from text genres at SMAN 1 Kuta Utara (? < 0.05), (2) there were no significant differences of the effect of Scientific Approach combined with Pictures on the eleventh grade students? writing competency viewed from text genres at SMAN 1 Kuta Utara (? > 0.05). This research suggests teachers and students to use pictures in teaching and learning of writing process in order students to be able to organize their ideas into sentences or paragraphs. keyword : pictures, scientific approach, writing competency.

Abstract

This study aimed at: a) developing materials for teaching English for nursing students of SMK Kesehatan Bali Medika Denpasar; b) knowing the quality of the developed materials for teaching English for nursing students of SMK Kesehatan Bali Medika Denpasar as perceived by expert judges. This study used R & D model proposed by Sugiyono (2013). Step 1 (identifying the potency & problem phase or need analysis phase) of Sugiyono Model of R&D Design used Hutchinson & Waters?s Learning-Centered Need Analysis Framework (1987) in order to be used to analyze target and learning needs of English for nursing students. The present study was limited into developing the product and expert judgment. Therefore, the field test was not conducted in the present study. The materials were designed by following the model of ESP material design of Hutchinson and Waters (1987:108) which consisted of input, content focus, language focus, and task. The findings of this study showed that there were 8 units of English for nursing students? material had been developed. Those were; (1) Establishing a Relationship; (2) Giving Directions in Hospital; (3) Health Problems; 4) Dimension of Symptoms; 5) Diagnosing Health Problems; 6) Sharing Observation; (7) General Assessment; (8) Patient Assessment. The materials were focused on developing the students? speaking ability. The quality of the product was very good (Product Quality = 4.13) and had met the criteria of material evaluation checklist proposed by McDonough et al (2013).Kata Kunci : materials, students, nursing Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (a) mengembangkan materi bahasa inggris keperawatan untuk pengajaran mata pelajaran bahasa inggris keperawatan siswaSMK Kesehatan Bali Medika Denpasar; (b) mengetahui kualitas materi bahasa inggris keperawatan untuk pengajaran mata pelajaran bahasa inggris keperawatan siswa SMK Kesehatan Bali Medika Denpasar dari penilaian para ahli. Tahap pertama Penelititan dan Pengembangan model Sugiyono (tahap mengindentifikasi potensi dan masalah atau analisis kebutuhan) menggunakan model analisis kebutuhan Learning Centered Hutchinson dan Waters (1987) untuk digunakan untuk menganalisa kebutuhan target dan belajar mata kuliah bahasa inggris keperawatan. Penelitian ini hanya terbatas dalam pengembangan produk dan uji pakar. Sehingga penelitian ini tidak diarahkan untuk menguji coba produk di lapangan. Materi ajar didesain mengunakan model Hutchinson dan Waters (1987:108) yang terdiri dari input, content focus, language focus, dan task. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 8 unit materi bahasa inggris keperawatan yang sudah dikembangkan. Abstract

Entitled ?Investigating Students? Writing in Senior High School in Singaraja: An Error Analysis of Learners? Use of English as a Foreign Language?, this study attempted to find out (1) the types of errors that students made in their writing, (2) the sources of those errors, (3) and why global errors still committed by students in grade XII. As such, the study was designed as a case study. It was conducted in Science Class XII 7 of SMAN 1 Singaraja and a ?writing project? was used to collect the data. In this research, the researcher also used questionnaire and interview to obtain additional data. The results of this study show that a total of 184 errors were made by the students. They can be categorized into five types: omission errors with 77 errors (41%), misinformation errors with 70 errors (38%), misordering errors with 6 errors (3.2%), overgeneralization errors with 4 errors (2.1%), and global errors with 27 errors (15%). The errors were mostly caused by interlanguage factors (65%), while about 35 % of the errors were caused by language transfer. In relation to the language transfer causing the errors, three kinds of transfer were found, namely: interlingual transfer, intralingual transfer, and transfer of learning. In addition, in term of global errors, the researcher found two main factors that cause global errors, namely, over-literal translation and lack of information about the sentence-structure of English and English grammar

Abstract

Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D) model Lee dan Owens (2004) yang terdiri atas: analisis kebutuhan, desain, pengembangan, implementasi and evaluasi. Data dikumpulkan melalui metode observasi, kuesioner, wawancara, uji ahli, dan tes. Analisis pengumpulan data menggunakan metode Analisis Data Interaktif dan Penilaian Acuan Ideal Teoritik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa, (1) siswa kelas X Multimedia SMK Wira Harapan memerlukan materi Bahasa Inggris khusus yang berhubungan dengan pekerjaan mereka di masa depan; (2) hasil design Blended Learning bertujuan untuk menciptakan proses belajar mengajar yang mengacu pada kegiatan student centered dan kemandirian dalam belajar; (3) hasil validasi isi menunjukkan bahwa blended learning berdasarkan materi membaca memiliki tingkat validitas yang sangat tinggi; (4) hasil uji lapangan menunjukkan bahwa materi yang dikembangkan dapat meningkatkan pemahaman siswa dalam membaca text Bahasa Inggris; dan (5) dalam mengembangkan dan pengimplementasikan blended learning, masalah yang dihadapi oleh guru adalah masalah teknis. Kata Kunci : analisis kebutuhan, blended learning, materi membaca, R&D This study was a research and development (R&D) study designed by Lee and Owens (2004) which involved: need analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The data were gathered through observation, questionnaires, interview, validation technique and test. The method of data collections were interactive data analysis and ideal theoretic reference. The result of this study showed that: (1) the students need specific reading material based on their future job; (2) the design of Blended Learning whose purpose was to make the teaching and learning process became student- centered activity and makes the students become self-assisted language learners; (3) the developed blended learning based on reading material had a very high validity; (4) the developed blended learning based on reading material could improve the students? reading comprehension; and (5) In developing and implementing the blended learning based reading material, the technical problem was faced by the teacher. keyword : need analysis, blended learning, reading material, R&D

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesopanan tutur kata pada interaksi kelas bahasa inggris bagi pelajar asing dan implikasinya terhadap proses belajar mengajar pada kelas bahasa inggris bagi pelajar asing di smp negeri 2 tabanan pada tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Permasalahan yang pertama, mengungkap jenis strategy kesopanan yang digunakan oleh siswa dan guru kelas delapan pada kelas bahasa Inggris bagi pelajar asing di SMP Negeri 2 Tabanan. Permasalahan yang ke dua fungsi atau intruksi apa yang terimplikasi dalam setrategi kesopanan tersebut oleh oleh siswa dan guru kelas delapan pada kelas bahasa Inggris bagi pelajar asing di SMP Negeri 2 Tabanan. Permasalahan yang terakhir adalah implikasi yang ditimbulkan terhadap implikasinya terhadap proses belajar mengajar pada kelas bahasa inggris bagi pelajar asing di smp negeri 2 tabanan. Penelitian ini dirancang dengan menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif. Adapun data pada penelitian ini didapat dari percakapan pada proses belajar dan mengajar di dalam kelas dengan menggunakan rekaman video dan wawancara. Data yang di dapat dalam bentuk percakapan. Percakapan tersebut diidentifikasi dan dianalisis secara deskriptif untuk mengetahui strategi kesopanan yang digunakan oleh guru dan siswa. Kemudian, analisisnya dilanjutkan dengan mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis fungsi yang terkandung dalam strategi kesopanan yang digunakan oleh mereka, dan terakhir, dilanjutkan dengan menganalisis dan mendiskusikan implikasi dari kesopanan dalam tutur kata dalam interaksi kelas pengajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan kesopanan mengadung lima strategi, yaitu; secara langsung dan blakblakan tanpa kemasan kesantunan, secara langsung dengan kemasan kesantunan positif, secara langsung dengan kemasan kesantunan negatif, secara tidak langsung, dan secara diam. Fungsi dari kesopanan bisa dibagi menjadi tiga, yaitu; ekpresif, intruksi/perintah, dan bersifat member pentunjuk atau penjelasan. Kesopanan juga menimbulkan implikasi terhadap hubungan antara guru dan siswa, motivasi dalam belajar, dan sukses dalam belajar. Kata Kunci : Kesopanan Tutur Kata, Strategi Kesopanan, Tindak Tutur, and Interaksi Kelas bagi Pelajar Asing This study aimed at investigating the politeness in EFL classroom interactions and its implications toward EFL teaching-learning in Smp Negeri 2 Tabanan in Academic Year 2013/2014. The first problem was to reveal the kinds of politeness strategies which were used in the classroom interaction by the grade-eight EFL teacher and students of SMP Negeri 2 Tabanan. The second problem was the kinds of instructional function implied in the politeness strategies used by the grade-eight EFL teacher and students of SMP Negeri 2 Tabanan in EFL classroom interaction, and the last problem was the implication of politeness strategies towards English teaching-learning process in SMP Negeri 2 Tabanan. The research was designed by using qualitative research. The data were taken from the conversations of the teaching and learning process in the classroom through video recorded and interview. The obtained data were in the form of conversation. The conversation was identified and analyzed descriptively in order to know the politeness strategy used by teacher and students. The analysis was continued by identifying and analyzing the functions which were included in the politeness strategies used by them, and the last, it was continued by analyzing and discussing the implication of the politeness are occurred at the EFL classroom interaction. The result of the study show politeness was conveyed through five strategies, namely; bald-on record, positive politeness, negative politeness, off record, and saying nothing. The functions of the politeness can be divided into three, namely, expressive, directive, and representative function. The politeness were found to bring implications toward teacher-students relationship, motivation for learning, and success in lerning. keyword : politeness, politeness strategies, speech acts, and EFL classroom interaction.

Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan dengan menggunakan model Sugiyono. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi masalah dan kebutuhan RPP yang digunakan di SMK Triatma Jaya Singaraja.mendesain dan mengembangkan RPP berbasis karakter serta mengukur efekivitas dan kualitas dari RPP yang dikembangkan di SMK Triatma Jaya Singaraja. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan RPP yang digunakan di SMK Triatma Jaya belum mencantumkan nilai karakter bangsa baik di kegiatan pembelajaran maupun pada penilaian RPP. Kegiatan pembelajaran cenderung monoton dan terjadi pengulangan materi. RPP yang dibuat berdasarkan Juknis Pengembangan RPP SMA yang disusun oleh Direktorat Pengembangan SMA dengan menambahkan penilaian karakter bangsa. RPP berbasis karakter dikembangkan dalam bentuk RPP yang terintegrasi. Hasil uji coba menunjukkan RPP yang dikembangkan efektif dan memiliki kualitas yang baik. Kata Kunci : rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran, nilai-nilai karakter bangsa This study was a Research and Development study (R&D) used Sugiyono?s model which aimed at identifying problem and the needs of the lesson plans in SMK Triatma Jaya Singaraja, determining the suitable design and developing character based lesson plan in SMK Triatma Jaya, measuring the effectiveness and the quality of the lesson plan developed. The data of the present study were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. This result showed that the existing lesson plans did not clearly state the values of nation character and the assessment and it was not explicitly stated on the learning activity. The learning activity seemed monotone. There seemed to be materials repetition. The materials must be suitable with the students? department. The lesson plans developed were designed based on technical guideline of lesson plan development proposed by Board Directors of Senior High School Development (2010) with character assessment as an addition. The lesson plans were developed in form of integrated lesson plan. The lesson plans developed were effective and the quality is excellent.keyword : lesson plan, the values of nation character
