Abstract

This study is a survey study that aims to determine the biology topics that are difficult for students and teachers, the types of biology learning difficulties and how to overcome the biology learning difficulties of high school students in Palopo City. This research was conducted at all State Senior High Schools (SMA) in Palopo City. Data collection techniques using questionnaire techniques. Data were analysed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of the study showed that the top 5 difficult biology topics for senior high school students in Palopo City were heredity, coordination system, circulatory system, genetic substance, mitosis and meiosis. While the biology topics that were difficult for students based on the perceptions of biology teachers of State Senior High Schools in Palopo City were metabolism. The types of biology learning difficulties experienced by students include various factors including student characteristics, teaching methods, and environmental limitations. From the various obstacles in learning biology experienced by students, solutions are needed to overcome them. Ways to overcome difficulties in learning biology according to students include suggested solutions involve improving teaching strategies, adjusting the curriculum, and increasing school support

Abstract

Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan memberikan pelatihan bagi calon guru IPA dalam merancang pembelajaran berbasis proyek. Kegiatan ini melibatkan 15 alumni pendidikan IPA yang tergabung dalam IKA Pendidikan IPA FMIPA UNM. Kegiatan terdiri atas tahap persiapan, pelaksanaan, diskusi dan evaluasi reflektif. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan angket dan lembar observasi. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peserta mampu memahami prinsip-prinsip PjBL dan mampu merancang pembelajaran berbasis proyek ditunjukkan dari produk modul ajar, LKPD, instrumen dan perangkat pendukung lainnya. Selain itu peserta pelatihan memberikan respons positif terhadap pelatihan. Secara umum, skor masing-masing aspek menunjukkan tingkat kepuasan yang tinggi, dengan rata-rata skor berkisar antara 4,0 hingga 4,8 dari skala maksimum 5. Kegiatan ini memberikan kontribusi dalam mempersiapkan calon guru IPA yang kompeten dan inovatif dalam menghadapi tantangan pembelajaran abad ke-21

Abstract

Learning about additives in science in junior high schools requires a contextual approach so that students can understand the concepts and their application in everyday life. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of implementing Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in learning about additives through a dishwashing soap-making project within the Independent Curriculum. The study used a literature review method with a narrative review design, analyzing 20 national articles published between 2018 and 2025, obtained through Google Scholar. The results showed that the implementation of PjBL improved students' conceptual understanding, critical thinking skills, creativity, learning motivation, and science process skills. The dishwashing soap-making project also provided a more contextual learning experience and fostered entrepreneurial skills and awareness of the safe use of chemicals. Despite several constraints such as limited time and resources, the PjBL model was deemed effective in learning about additives for junior high school students, in accordance with the requirements of the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

The Merdeka curriculum uses differentiation in content, process, and product, with DSI process differentiation through tiered activities and varied guidance to accommodate diverse student learning styles. The research aimed to determine the level of concept understanding among students at the inquiry level, both before and after being taught using the DSI learning model based on the TaRL approach in class VIII. The subjects were 34 students from a junior high school in Makassar. This research was a pre-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design, involving an experimental group and a control group. Data collection used initial ability and concept understanding tests on light and optical devices through pre-tests and post-tests. Research findings showed that the student significantly improved their conceptual understanding, with average scores increasing from 6.31 on the pre-test to 16.12 on the post-test. Then, the DSI Model within the TaRL approach was effective in strengthening the students’ conceptual understanding of science subjects.

Abstract

This study was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) aimed at improving the learning motivation of eighth-grade students at SMP YP PGRI Disamakan Makassar on the topic of earthquakes through the implementation of the Discovery Learning model assisted by interactive PowerPoint media. The research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of two meetings. The research instrument used was a learning motivation observation sheet covering aspects of attention, activeness in asking questions, participation in discussions, and students’ learning enthusiasm. The results showed that students’ learning motivation increased gradually from 58.5% in the pre-action stage to 67.4% in Cycle I and increased to 75.5% in Cycle II. In Cycle I, students’ learning motivation began to show positive development; however, some students were still less active and lacked confidence in expressing their opinions. After improvements were made in Cycle II through enhanced media interactivity and more intensive guidance, students became more active in asking questions, participating in discussions, and confidently expressing their opinions in front of the class. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Discovery Learning model assisted by interactive PowerPoint media was effective in improving students’ learning motivation on earthquake material.

Abstract

Eggshell waste is a type of household organic waste that has not been optimally utilized and has the potential to cause environmental pollution. In fact, eggshells contain very high calcium carbonate (CaCO₃), reaching 90–97%, enabling them to be processed into various environmentally friendly and economically valuable household products. This study aims to comprehensively review the utilization of calcium carbonate from eggshell waste in environmentally friendly household products. The method used was a narrative review with literature searches through the Google Scholar database covering the 2019–2025 period, yielding 20 relevant articles that were systematically analyzed. The results show that eggshells are effectively utilized in agriculture as organic fertilizer to neutralize soil pH, in environmental applications as adsorbents for heavy metals, and in household products such as antibacterial toothpaste, aromatherapy candles, natural abrasive materials, and various aesthetically valuable crafts. The success of this utilization is greatly influenced by processing methods, particle size, calcination temperature, and material purity. In conclusion, eggshell waste has great potential as an alternative raw material supporting the concepts of zero waste, circular economy, and sustainable development. Further research is needed on long-term product stability, industrial-scale cost-benefit analysis, and safety tests for direct human applications.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keaktifan belajar peserta didik pada materi gunung berapi melalui penerapan media interaktif dan percobaan sederhana di kelas VIII SMP YP PGRI Disamakan Makassar. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan model Kemmis dan McTaggart yang terdiri atas dua siklus, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian adalah peserta didik kelas VIII tahun ajaran 2025/2026. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, angket, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan media interaktif dan percobaan sederhana mampu meningkatkan keaktifan belajar peserta didik. Pada kondisi awal, peserta didik cenderung pasif, kurang fokus, dan kurang berpartisipasi dalam pembelajaran. Pada siklus I, penggunaan PowerPoint interaktif mulai meningkatkan perhatian dan keterlibatan peserta didik, meskipun belum optimal. Pada siklus II, melalui percobaan sederhana gunung api bikarbonat, peserta didik menjadi lebih aktif bertanya, berdiskusi, melakukan percobaan, dan mempresentasikan hasil pengamatan. Peserta didik juga menunjukkan antusiasme dan rasa ingin tahu yang lebih tinggi selama proses pembelajaran berlangsung. Dengan demikian, penerapan media interaktif dan percobaan sederhana dapat meningkatkan keaktifan belajar peserta didik pada materi gunung berapi di kelas VIII SMP YP PGRI Disamakan Makassar.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Rendahnya motivasi belajar IPA pada peserta didik kelas VII SMP Negeri 18 Makassar ditunjukkan oleh kurangnya antusiasme, rendahnya partisipasi, dan menurunnya fokus selama pembelajaran. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan meningkatkan motivasi belajar IPA melalui implementasi pembelajaran berdiferensiasi berbantuan media pembelajaran berbasis game. Metode: Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) model Kemmis & McTaggart yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, meliputi perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Data diperoleh melalui angket motivasi belajar berdasarkan model ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) dan lembar observasi, kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil: Motivasi belajar peserta didik meningkat dari rata-rata 35,57% pada pra-siklus (kategori rendah) menjadi 52,57% pada siklus I (kategori cukup), dan mencapai 71,22% pada siklus II (kategori tinggi). Peningkatan tertinggi terjadi pada aspek Confidence (73,4%) dan Attention (73,1%). Kesimpulan: Pembelajaran berdiferensiasi berbantuan media berbasis game terbukti efektif meningkatkan motivasi belajar IPA dengan menciptakan pembelajaran yang lebih menarik, interaktif, dan sesuai dengan kebutuhan peserta didik. Strategi ini berpotensi menjadi alternatif inovatif untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran IPA di tingkat SMP.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi digital telah memberikan peluang baru dalam peningkatan kualitas pendidikan. Salah satu inovasi yang relevan adalah penggunaan media animasi dalam pembelajaran IPA, yang mampu memvisualisasikan konsep abstrak menjadi lebih interaktif dan mudah dipahami. Artikel ini melaporkan program pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan oleh dosen Universitas Negeri Makassar melalui kegiatan pelatihan guru IPA di Kabupaten Maros, Sulawesi Selatan. Program terdiri atas seminar, workshop, dan pendampingan dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran berbasis animasi menggunakan aplikasi Powtoon dan Animaker. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman guru terhadap konsep media digital, keterampilan teknis dalam menghasilkan animasi, serta motivasi untuk mengintegrasikan media digital dalam praktik pembelajaran. Program ini berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan kompetensi guru sekaligus mendukung transformasi pembelajaran IPA yang lebih menarik dan menyenangkan.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the description of science misconceptions using the Three Tier Diagnostic Test in class VII students of SMPN 3 Pattalassang. This research is a descriptive study that uses a quantitative descriptive approach. Quantitative descriptive research design intended to describe the misconceptions of students on the science questions given. The study population was 108 students from 4 classes. Determination of the number of samples using saturated samples where all members of the population will be used as research samples. The research instrument used is a three tier diagnostic test of 17 items that have been validated by content and items. The data collection technique in this study was a written test of the three tier diagnostic test. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistical analysis. Based on the results of data analysis, it is known that misconceptions occur in all concepts in the material of the earth's layers with the percentage of misconceptions of students on the concept of the constituents of the atmosphere by 78.72% (high); the relationship between altitude, air pressure and the number of air molecules by 71.12% (high); characteristics of the troposphere layer by 74.08% (high); characteristics of the stratosphere layer by 68.53% (high); characteristics of the mesosphere layer by 74.08% (high); characteristics of the thermosphere layer by 75.93% (high); characteristics of the exosphere layer by 85.19% (high); characteristics of the lithosphere layer by 64.82% (high); causes of earthquakes by 67.59% (high); causes of volcano formation by 60.19% (high), and characteristics of the hydrosphere by 65.74% (high).
