Abstract

Scaffolding Structural Thinking in Critical Reading: A Quasi-Experimental Study on CTL-Based Liveworksheets for Popular Scientific Text. Objective: Students' reading skills in Indonesia remain low, as evidenced by the 2022 PISA scores, partly due to the limitations of static print media in facilitating critical thinking required by the Merdeka Curriculum. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of interactive digital Liveworksheets based on Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) compared to printed worksheets in improving Grade VIII students' critical reading skills on popular scientific articles. Methods: This study employed a quantitative, quasi-experimental, posttest-only control-group design. The sample consisted of 68 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Padang, selected via cluster random sampling and divided into an experimental class (N=34) using CTL-based Liveworksheets and a control class (N=34) using printed worksheets. Data were collected using a validated objective test (30 items, Alpha 0.878) measuring text content, structure, and linguistic features, combined with a qualitative analysis of students' written responses to assess cognitive engagement. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, normality and homogeneity tests, an independent samples t-test, and Cohen’s d effect size calculation. Findings: The results indicated a significant difference in learning outcomes. The experimental class achieved a higher mean score (88.04) compared to the control class (83.04). The t-test confirmed this significance with a p-value of 0.046 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the effect size calculation (d=0.49) indicated a moderate practical impact. Specifically, the experimental group demonstrated superior performance in analyzing text structure compared to the control group. Conclusion: The integration of CTL components, specifically modeling and constructivism, within the interactive features of Liveworksheets proved effective in enhancing students' reading competencies. Therefore, this media serves as a viable alternative to support digital literacy and critical reading instruction in secondary schools.        Keywords: critical reading skills, liveworksheets, contextual teaching and learning, popular scientific articles, digital literacy.

Abstract

ANALYSIS OF LANGUAGE STYLE IN THE POETRY WORKS OF 10TH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 1 TALAMAUThis study aims to analyze and describe the figures of speech used in the poetry of 10th-grade novice students at SMA Negeri 1 Talamau. The subjects were selected based on their characteristics as beginner writers who are just starting to develop their creative writing skills, especially in poetry. The data consists of all diction containing figures of speech in a collection of poems written by the students. A qualitative descriptive method with content analysis techniques was used. The findings show that 10th-grade students are capable of using a variety of figures of speech in their poems, though with different frequencies and variations. The dominant figures of speech were those of comparison, specifically personification and metaphor, which reflect the students' attempts to animate inanimate objects and provide implicit depth of meaning. The study also found the use of figures of opposition like hyperbole and figures of repetition such as anaphora, albeit in smaller numbers. The use of these stylistic elements by novice students demonstrates a level of understanding and mastery of stylistics in poetry, despite some figures of speech being rarely or never used. The implication of this research is the need for more intensive development of learning materials and teaching strategies to enrich the variety of language styles used by students, thereby improving the quality and expressiveness of their poetry in the future.

Abstract

ANALYSIS OF MORPHOLOGICAL LANGUAGE ERRORS IN ONLINE NEWS TEXTS ON THE GANTO.CO WEBSITE This study aims to analyze morphological language errors in news texts from the Ganto.co portal. The method used was descriptive qualitative, using listening, recording, and documentation techniques for news texts published between September 20–30, 2025. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results indicate that the morphological errors found include affixation, reduplication, composition, and the absorption of foreign terms that have not been adapted to Indonesian language rules. Contributing factors include the influence of foreign languages, a lack of understanding of morphological rules, and the habit of using non-standard forms in online news writing. The conclusion of this study suggests that media students, such as those from Ganto.co, need to increase their linguistic awareness to become role models for the proper application of Indonesian in journalistic media.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to describe the forms, strategies, and levels of linguistic politeness in the negotiation texts produced by students, as well as to examine their implications for Indonesian language learning. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with a pragmatic approach. The research data consist of 15 negotiation texts written by Grade X students of SMA Negeri 1 West Sumatra, collected through observation, documentation, and simulation of negotiation activities. The analysis was carried out in four stages, namely speech identification, classification of negotiation strategies, analysis of positive and negative linguistic politeness, and formulation of learning implications. The results show that students employed various negotiation strategies, including price bargaining, reasoning, and comparison with other alternatives. Linguistic politeness is reflected in the use of greetings, expressions of requests, expressions of appreciation, and forms of offers that show attention to speech partners. This finding confirms that Indonesian language learning needs to be directed toward strengthening students’ communicative competence. Through the application of the principle of linguistic politeness, it is hoped that polite, effective, and contextual interactions will be fostered.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the forms of language errors at the morphological level contained in the Padang Ekspres newspaper, September–October 2024 edition, with a focus on errors in the use of affixes including prefixes, suffixes, confixes, and affix combinations. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method with a content analysis approach. Data collection and analysis were carried out on sentences in the education column containing morphological errors, then analyzed based on Wibowo's (2013) morphological theory. The results of the study show four types of affixation errors, namely 15 data in the use of prefixes including the prefixes me(N)-, di-, be(R)-, and se-; 8 data in the use of suffixes including the suffixes {-kan}, {-i}, and {-nya}; 2 data in the use of confixes, namely {ke-an} and {peN-an}; and errors in the use of affix combinations amounting to 2 data, including {me-kan} and {me-i}. Overall, 27 language errors were found at the morphological level. The conclusion of the study shows that the use of Indonesian in print media is still not fully in accordance with standard morphological rules, so that the results of this study can be used as evaluation material for journalists and editors to improve language accuracy in reporting
