Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of competence and training on employee performance, with organizational commitment serving as a mediating variable, in the Department of Industry and Trade of Malinau Regency. The research background focuses on various issues related to employee performance, including limitations in technical competence, suboptimal training effectiveness, and variations in employees’ levels of commitment to carrying out public service duties. The Resource-Based View (RBV) theory is employed to explain how competence and training enhance organizational capabilities. This study uses a quantitative, path-analytic approach to examine both direct and indirect relationships among variables. The results indicate that competence and training have a significant effect on employee performance, both directly and indirectly through organizational commitment as a mediating variable. These findings highlight that performance improvement is not solely dependent on employees’ technical skills and knowledge, but also on their level of psychological attachment to the organization. In addition to contributing theoretically to the field of human resource management, this study provides practical recommendations, including developing needs-based training programs, strengthening organizational culture, and implementing sustainable competency development policies to improve employee performance in local government institutions.

Abstract

This study examines the relationships among price perception, product quality, consumer satisfaction, and purchasing decisions in the café industry in Malinau Regency. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 160 respondents who had experience purchasing products from local cafés. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to test both direct and indirect relationships among variables. The results indicate that product quality and consumer satisfaction have a positive, significant effect on purchasing decisions, whereas price perception does not. However, price perception significantly affects consumer satisfaction, suggesting that consumers evaluate prices based on perceived fairness and value for money rather than as a direct trigger for purchase decisions. Furthermore, the findings reveal that consumer satisfaction plays a strategic mediating role. Consumer satisfaction mediates the relationship between price perception and purchasing decisions, as well as between product quality and purchasing decisions. This indicates that fair pricing and high product quality first enhance consumer satisfaction, which, in turn, strengthens purchasing decisions and repurchase intentions. Product quality reflected in taste, consistency, presentation, hygiene, and freshness emerges as a critical determinant of satisfaction and long-term consumer behavior in the café context. Overall, this study highlights the importance of consumer satisfaction as a key psychological mechanism linking marketing variables to purchasing decisions. The findings provide practical implications for café business owners in Malinau Regency, emphasizing the need to focus on value-based pricing strategies, consistent product quality, and positive consumption experiences to foster satisfaction and sustainable purchasing behavior. This research also contributes to the marketing literature by reinforcing the mediating role of consumer satisfaction in the food and beverage industry, particularly in semi-urban regions.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between eye movement patterns and reading comprehension skills. Data were collected from 20 participants during reading comprehension activities using the Tobii Eye Tracker. Hypothesis testing conducted using the Chi-square Test through Crosstabs analysis shows the value of Asymp. Sig. (2-sided) 0.788 > 0.05, which leads to a conclusion that Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected. Therefore, we conclude that there is no relationship between eye movement patterns and the reading comprehension ability among the participants. This is because eye movement patterns are visual technical in nature, while the ability to read comprehension is more likely to lead to one's cognition. Although there is no relationship between eye movement patterns and reading comprehension, eye movements can be used to identify cognitive processes during reading activities. For example, determining the time needed in the reading process, identifying the level of text familiarity, the reader's predictability, and a person's weakness in reading.

Abstract

Research aims: This study employed dynamic ability theory to test the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and competitive advantage moderated by strategic agility, consisting of three dimensions (strategic sensitivity, collective commitment, and fluidity of resources) in the context of small and medium enterprises in the developing country. Design/Methodology/Approach: This study applied a cross-sectional design, using bootstrapping analysis with the SmartPLS 3.0 program to test the indirect relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and competitive advantage. Strategic agility was the moderating variable to explain the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and competitive advantage. The sample comprised 170 food and beverage small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta.Research findings: The results revealed that entrepreneurial orientation increased competitive advantage through strategic agility consisting of three dimensions, simultaneously carrying out exploration and exploitation innovations to encourage entrepreneurship of SMEs in increasing sustainable competitive advantage.Theoretical contribution/Originality: The novelty of this research is the achievement of excellence and sustainable competitiveness of SMEs that can be done by increasing strategic agility.Practitioner/Policy implication: This research is expected to be the reference and consideration for SMEs' businesspeople, owners, and managers, which can be in the form of utilizing resource capabilities to encourage the improvement of company knowledge management and produce superior performance from sustainable competitors in a volatile, uncertain, and ambiguous environment.Research limitation/Implication: Future research may consider the mediating effects before the moderating variables and consider a stable environment that does not have turmoil, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and whether strategic agility is still relevant to the research context. Further research can also prove and focus on only one scale of SMEs because they are small and medium and may have a different way of dealing with a tumultuous and uncertain environment. Finally, future researchers can also study and incorporate other entrepreneurial orientation constructs that potentially affect SMEs, such as autonomy, aggressiveness, and competitive energy.

Abstract

This article examines how President Joko Widodo’s political communication model responded to and managed religious sentiment during the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the study analyzes selected posts from President Jokowi’s official Instagram account using Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis framework, which emphasizes the dimensions of text, discursive practice, and social practice. The findings reveal that the intersection of politics and religion in the context of pandemic governance generated significant resistance from segments of religious communities, manifested in distrust of Covid-19 information, vaccine rejection, conspiracy narratives, and opposition to burial procedures following health protocols. In response, the Jokowi administration strategically incorporated religious language, symbols, and institutional religious authority, such as references to the Indonesian Ulama Council and the notion of halal vaccines, into its communication strategy. This approach sought to align public health policies with dominant religious values in Indonesian society. The study demonstrates that religious discourse functioned as an instrument of symbolic power to stabilize public opinion and increase compliance with state policies. Contributes to political communication scholarship by showing how religious instrumentalization can function as a pragmatic crisis communication strategy in a democratic yet highly faith-oriented society.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the effect of intellectual capital on innovation performance of frozen shrimp SMEs in North Kalimantan, with inter-organizational learning as a mediator. Research Method: A quantitative survey was conducted on 278 SMEs. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed with PLS-SEM to test direct and mediating relationships among variables. Results and Discussion: Intellectual capital significantly improves both inter-organizational learning and innovation performance. Inter-organizational learning has the strongest effect on innovation, indicating that collaboration and knowledge exchange with external partners are critical. It also mediates the relationship between intellectual capital and innovation performance, showing that internal resources become more effective when supported by external learning. Implications: The findings suggest that SMEs should strengthen knowledge-based resources and expand collaborative networks to enhance innovation. Policymakers should support capacity building and partnerships. Future studies may include additional variables or sectors for broader insights.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of Digital Experience and Trust on the loyalty of Generation Z players in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, with Player Satisfaction as a mediator. Using a quantitative approach and PLS-SEM analysis of 100 active Gen Z players in Indonesia, the results show that while Digital Experience and Trust significantly enhance satisfaction and loyalty, Player Satisfaction surprisingly exerts a significant negative effect on loyalty. This indicates a satisfaction paradox where satisfaction acts as a competitive mediator; rising expectations among digital natives reduce satisfaction's effectiveness in driving long-term commitment. Theoretically, this highlights a shift in the role of satisfaction in high-tech markets. Practically, developers should prioritize building trust and continuous digital innovation over merely increasing satisfaction to retain Gen Z players

Abstract

This study examines the effect of workload on employee performance, with work motivation as a mediating variable, among employees at Antutan and Tanjung Palas Health Centers in North Kalimantan, Indonesia. A quantitative explanatory research design using a cross-sectional survey and SEM-PLS analysis was employed, with 136 respondents. Results show that workload does not significantly affect work motivation or performance, whereas work motivation significantly and positively influences performance. Moreover, work motivation fully mediates the relationship between workload and performance. The study highlights the critical role of motivation in sustaining employee performance, suggesting that organizational strategies should prioritize motivational interventions over workload reduction.
