Abstract

E-learning is one of the trends in physics learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, its implementation has advantages and disadvantages that must be considered. Therefore, this study will examine the profile of e-learning physics during the pandemic from the perspective of students and teachers. The research is a mixed-method embedded design with a sample of 209 students and 9 physics teachers. Data collection techniques used were surveys and structured interviews, while data analysis techniques were carried out descriptively. The study results indicate that students tend not to find it easy to implement e-learning, with the most obstruction being network instability and the lack of internet quota. Students also do not experience an increase in learning motivation when using e-learning. Students' most frequently used platforms are Google Classroom, WhatsApp, Google Meet, and Zoom. Students rated e-learning as a whole with an average score of 6.61. Some of the teacher's responses are consistent with the student survey results. According to the teacher, planning to implement e-learning has its respective advantages and disadvantages. E-learning is one of the alternative learning activities that can be carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic or even post-pandemic, along with the increase in digitalization and information technology in the education system.

Abstract

Argumentation is a core practice of scientific discourse. One of the problems in learning science is the low level of argumentation skills of students. Efforts to improve argumentation skills include implementing the Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI) learning model. This study aims to identify the contribution and find out the trend of applying ADI in physics learning in 2012-2021. The method used in this research is a bibliometric analysis based on Scopus data with the help of MS Excel and VOSviewer to visualize the metadata obtained. The results of this study obtained 100 documents. The development of ADI every year does not have a significant increase in the number of publications produced. Research visualization using VOSviewer produces 14 clusters and is closely related to argumentative learning, guided inquiry, and so on. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the ADI has several contributions to science learning, mostly done in Chemistry, and it is still rare in Physics, so it can be an opportunity for further research. It is hoped that further research can discuss more deeply the ADI learning model, which is applied to physics learning to improve students' argumentation skills.

Abstract

This is preliminary research by undergraduate students in Physics Department, at Surabaya State University. This study aims to examine the prior knowledge, attitudes, and awareness of the light pollution phenomenon. The preliminary study was carried out on questionnaire sheets. The questionnaire sheets were given to 30 students of the 2020 class physics education program. The questionnaire consists of 21 item questions, divided into 16 Likert scale questions and 5 open questions. The development of the questionnaire considers indicators of prior knowledge, attitudes, and awareness in the case of the light pollution phenomenon. In this study, data analysis was carried out through quantitative analysis. The questionnaire as the research instrument was tested in two stages: validity and reliability using SPSS software statistics. The validity test using Pearson correlation got a 0.779 score. The reliability test using Cronbach’s alpha got a 0.800 score. The result of the study showed that 76% of undergraduate students have an average initial knowledge about light pollution with the “good” category, and 68% of them have an attitude of caring for the environment in the case of light pollution phenomena with the category of “care”. And the final result is that 66% of them realize that the impact of light pollution is a crucial issue nowadays. Further research is needed for developing the learning media with reference to the current status of prospective physics teachers

Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze learning activities in science learning that can promote scientific reasoning skills and provide the best way to teach it. Method: The method used is a literature review analyzing 20 articles indexed by the Scopus database from 2017 – 2022. There are 200 articles about teaching scientific reasoning in the Scopus database, and 20 articles that focused on science learning were selected. The 20 articles then analyzed the domain of scientific reasoning and learning activities to train it. Results: The results showed that science learning interventions in practicing scientific reasoning can be carried out starting from secondary to higher education levels. The learning interventions can be designed in face-to-face learning by integrating social science phenomena/cases, conducting guided investigations assisted by modules, and implementing argument-based learning or online learning using mobile apps/online simulations. There is a tendency that investigative activities are the most widely used intervention to promote scientific reasoning skills in science learning. Novelty: This study can provide an overview of science learning activities that promote scientific reasoning so that teachers can design the most appropriate learning activities to train students' scientific reasoning.
