Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of implementing an interactive e-module on the Thermodynamics material, developed using Collaborative Teamwork Learning and supported by quizzes, on the learning outcomes of Grade XI students at MAN 3 Muaro Jambi. The research method used is a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control-group design. The research sample consisted of two classes: the experimental class, which used the interactive e-module, and the control class, which used conventional learning methods. The instrument used in this study was a learning outcome test validated by experts. Data analysis was conducted using the Mann-Whitney U test in SPSS to determine differences in learning outcomes between the two groups. The test results showed a significance value (Asymp. Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 0.05, indicating that the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected. This shows a significant difference in learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes. Students who learned using the interactive e-module, supported by Quizizz, showed greater improvement in learning outcomes than those in the control class. These findings indicate that the use of an interactive e-module with a collaborative approach and reinforcement through quizzes can significantly enhance students' understanding of Thermodynamics concepts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of students’ critical thinking failures in solving problems on the topic of Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV) based on their levels of self-efficacy. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving three eighth-grade students from SMPN 15 Muaro Jambi, selected through purposive sampling to represent high, medium, and low levels of self-efficacy. Data were collected through a critical thinking test based on the FRISCO indicators, in-depth interviews, observation of students’ cognitive processes, and documentation of their problem-solving steps. The findings indicate that students’ critical thinking abilities are still not optimal, particularly in the indicators of Reason, Inference, and Overview. Students with high self-efficacy demonstrated good understanding of the context and were able to construct mathematical models accurately, but they were still weak in interpreting results and reflecting on their solutions. Students with medium self-efficacy made algebraic reasoning errors and failed to evaluate the reasonableness of their answers. Meanwhile, students with low self-efficacy experienced difficulties across all stages, including understanding the context, selecting appropriate strategies, and evaluating their final solutions. These results reveal that differences in self-efficacy levels significantly influence the quality of students’ critical thinking processes. This study highlights the need to strengthen both cognitive and affective aspects to enhance students’ critical thinking skills in mathematics learning. Abstract

Misconceptions in polynomial material pose a significant issue in mathematics education, hindering students’ conceptual understanding. This study aims to examine the effect of collaborative learning on students’ misconceptions regarding polynomials in Grade XI at SMA Negeri 14 Kota Jambi. The research employed a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control-group design involving 57 students: 28 in the experimental group and 29 in the control group. The research instrument was a diagnostic test in the form of essay items, validated by subject matter experts, and administered as both a pretest and a posttest to measure misconceptions in polynomial operations, polynomial division, and the factors and roots of polynomial equations. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, gain scores, and an independent sample t-test. The results indicated that collaborative learning was highly effective in reducing student misconceptions. The experimental group showed a 42.3% reduction in misconception scores (from 71.29 to 41.14), while the control group experienced only a 12.2% decrease (from 70.93 to 62.24). Hypothesis testing revealed a highly significant difference (p < 0.001) with a very large effect size (Cohen’s d = 8.848). All students in the experimental group reached the low misconception category, whereas all students in the control group remained in the moderate category. Therefore, collaborative learning was proven to be more effective than conventional instruction in addressing students’ misconceptions

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology and the accelerated pace of social transformation have fundamentally reshaped work, learning, and human interaction, making character education increasingly strategic in Vocational High Schools (SMKs). This study presents a critical review of national and international literature to evaluate the relevance of character education in the Society 5.0 era, identify implementation challenges, and propose strategic directions for adaptive and contextually grounded practice. The analysis indicates that effective character education requires a multidimensional approach, integrating moral, social, spiritual, and professional competencies through holistic curricula, extracurricular programs, school leadership, and stakeholder collaboration. Technology offers opportunities to enhance engagement, digital literacy, and collaboration, yet it also introduces risks such as distractions, ethical dilemmas, and gaps in digital competence. Key challenges include misalignment between school programs and industry demands, inconsistent integration of religious and digital values, and varied stakeholder involvement. Therefore, character education must operate as an ecosystemic effort, balancing technological innovation with ethical and humanistic values to produce SMK graduates who are competent, ethical, and resilient in meeting the demands of Society 5.0

Abstract

Mathematical reasoning is a fundamental competency in mathematics learning, particularly in solving probability word problems that require systematic and logical thinking. One widely used framework to support problem solving is Polya’s problem-solving theory, which consists of four stages: understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and reviewing the solution. This study aims to analyze students’ mathematical reasoning abilities in solving probability word problems based on Polya’s steps. Polya’s theory is employed as an analytical framework to examine how students reason through probability tasks. The study adopted a qualitative descriptive approach involving tenth-grade students at a vocational high school in Jambi City. Data were collected through probability word problem tests, interviews, and classroom observations. The findings indicate that students’ mathematical reasoning abilities vary across the stages of Polya’s problem-solving process. At the understanding stage, most students were able to identify relevant information, although some experienced difficulties with probability terminology. During the planning stage, only a small number of students could formulate systematic solution strategies. In the execution stage, many students performed basic calculations correctly, but errors emerged when applying formulas to more complex problems. The reviewing stage was the least practiced, resulting in many undetected errors. These results suggest that while students possess basic problem-solving skills, they require further guidance to develop systematic and reflective reasoning. Therefore, reinforcing each stage of Polya’s problem-solving process is essential for improving students’ mathematical reasoning in solving probability word problems.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the failure of students’ mathematical creative thinking abilities in solving systems of linear equations in three variables (SPLTV) problems based on their level of self-regulation. Mathematical creative thinking is an essential higher-order skill, yet many students struggle to generate ideas, apply flexible strategies, and elaborate solutions when solving complex problems. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach involving students categorized into high, medium, and low self-regulation levels. Data were collected through creative thinking tests, self-regulation questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. The analysis focused on identifying patterns of failure across indicators of creative thinking, including fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The results indicate that students with low self-regulation tend to fail at planning problem-solving strategies, monitoring solution steps, and evaluating results, leading to incomplete or incorrect solutions. Students with moderate self-regulation partially fulfill creative thinking indicators, while those with high self-regulation demonstrate better control of their thinking processes, though some difficulties remain in originality and elaboration. These findings highlight the critical role of self-regulation in supporting students’ mathematical creative thinking and provide implications for designing instructional interventions to reduce learning failure in SPLTV topics.
