Abstract

Mathematics has an important role in the cognitive development of deaf students. Through learning mathematics in schools, deaf students will explore and build knowledge, because literally mathematics is the parent of knowledge and human activities. One important aspect in learning mathematics is the ability to solve problems. Problem solving means engaging in a task for which the solution method is not known in advance. In order to find a solution, students must draw on their knowledge, and through this process, they will often develop new mathematical understandings. This study aims to analyze the mental act of deaf students in solving mathematical problems in fraction material. Respondents of 20 students were randomly selected from 3 special schools. This type of research is qualitative with a case study design. Data was collected through the instrument of problem solving abilities, interviews, and observations. Data were analyzed using grouded theory. The results of this study indicate that the mental act used by deaf students in solving mathematical problems is interpreting, explaining, inferring, and problem solving.

Abstract

Several previous types of research showed that students had obstacles in understanding the concept of linear equations. These obstacles occur because the designed learning cannot facilitate student learning trajectories, thus causing low learning outcomes. This research aimed to design and develop a learning trajectory for the linear equations in one variable material as a systematic set of activities through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) instruction using a dynamo-powered toy car. This design is referred to as a Local Instructional Theory (LIT) in teaching the linear equations in one variable material. The research method used is the method of design research, following the stages of preliminary design, teaching experiment, and retrospective analysis. The research subjects in the teaching experiment were grade VII students of a state junior high school in Bandung City. Data were collected from various sources, namely student worksheets, teacher and student observation sheets, documentation, interview, and video recording of the learning course. This study analyzes the validity of the research through a qualitative research perspective, and reliability refers to the quality of the survey itself. The research results described the performance of the LIT-based design for linear equations in one variable learning in STEM instruction in four meetings. The research was concluded with the generation of one local instructional theory that is valid, practical, and effective in guiding a set of instructional activities to build an understanding of the linear equations in one variable material through STEM instruction using a dynamo-powered toy car.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the results of the test of students' mathematical communication skills on the topic of geometry. This research method is a qualitative research with the participants as many as 25 students in 8 grade of a junior high school in Bandung, then grouped based on early understanding of mathematics. Instrument used in this research are interview and written test with problem which presented refers to indicator of student's mathematical communication skill. The results showed that upper-level students were able to describe the answers correctly, not yet structured in the presentation of the answer, it therefore can cause the skill in using mathematical terms and the presentation of mathematical ideas are still weak. While middle-level students experienced barriers in describing relationships and situations models, and connecting real objects, images, and diagrams into mathematics. In addition, lower-level students have not been able to interpret the problems of communication in correct answers yet. The conclusion is that the mathematical communication skill of students is still lack. So that there needs appropriate learning strategy to improve student's mathematical communication skill.

Abstract

Mathematical material and mathematical thinking abilities are two things that are constantly evolving, that is, between mathematical material understood through mathematical thinking skills possessed by students need to be further developed through learning mathematical and mathematical material that continues to grow more widely. Therefore, in mathematics learning it is necessary to develop AMT students' abilities. This meta-analysis uses the results of experimental studies regarding the effect of learning strategies on students' AMT abilities. Of the ten research reports, 18 research findings were obtained which were then the subject of this study. This meta-analysis aims to determine the overall effect of learning strategies on students' AMT abilities, as well as the effect of the three aspects found in these experiments, namely the level of education, tools / learning media, and the types of strategies used. The results of the analysis show that learning strategies are effective in improving the ability of AMT students, with the effect of the greatest influence based on the type of learning strategy that is cooperative. Other findings indicate that the learning strategy at the senior secondary level is more effective. Whereas based on learning aids / media it can be seen that student worksheets are more influential.

Abstract

The teachers’ online teaching competencies play a crucial role in the COVID-19 era, as those who are unprepared to use technology in the classroom experienced difficulties in designing and conducting the class. This research aims to describe the implementation of mathematics learning that is oriented, pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) of elementary school teachers. The research was conducted in the city of Bukittinggi, involving 6 elementary schools, 6 teachers, and 12 students. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The research method is in the form of a survey. Data collection techniques used are literature studies, interviews, and questionnaires. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of this research indicated that teachers have implemented TPACK approach which includes the planning, implementations and assessment processes. The teacher has implemented the TPACK-based learning process in learning mathematics. The learning process is structured by combining technological tools during the planning, implementation, and assessment processes. Teachers equip students with technology-based learning resources and teaching materials. During TPACK teachers were facilitated to access information for teaching references. The use of technology gives a positive impact on learning and creates an enjoyable learning experience for the students. This research also encourages further research that can improve the quality of TPACK-based digital learning implementation.

Abstract

Research in both ICT and RME is expanding at a breakneck pace. The growth of research in engineering can be tracked by one type of analysis known as bibliometric analysis. This analysis can be used to identify the number of scholarly publications on ICT and RME. This study is of a quantitative and descriptive nature. Researchers are interested in examining the development of ICT and RME, as well as the distribution pattern of publications in Scopus, which is based on research affiliations, research themes, and scientific journals. For the goals of data analysis, reduction, visualization, and mapping, respectively, Bibliometrix R-tool and BiblioShiny were utilized throughout the course of this research. Scopus bibliometric study finds that between the years 1999 and 2022, there was a shift in the number of research articles that could be located in the Scopus online database that were associated with ICT and RME. The year 2020 was the year that this publication - Journal on Education and Information Technologies - reached its zenith. In terms of the quantity of documents generated, research in the fields of ICT  is dominated by writers from the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.
