Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has significantly transformed social life and educational practices, creating both opportunities and challenges for strengthening Islamic character education. Digital disruption has led to various issues, including moral degradation, weakening internalization of Islamic values, and exposure to unfiltered information, particularly among the younger generation. This study aims to examine strategies for strengthening Islamic character education in the context of digital disruption. This research employs a qualitative approach using content analysis of relevant sources, including books, scholarly articles, and prior studies. The findings reveal that strengthening Islamic character requires integrative strategies, including the internalization of Quranic and Sunnah values, role modeling by educators, the utilization of digital technology as a medium for moral education, and collaboration among educational institutions, families, and communities. This study contributes by proposing a conceptual framework for Islamic character education that is adaptive to digital transformation while maintaining its spiritual and moral foundations.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of a multicultural Islamic education model oriented toward religious moderation in improving students’ tolerance attitudes at Islamic junior high schools. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving the principal, Islamic Education teachers, and students selected through purposive sampling. The validity of the data was ensured through source and technique triangulation, while the data were analyzed thematically through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the implementation of multicultural Islamic education oriented toward religious moderation was able to enhance students’ tolerance attitudes, as reflected in mutual respect, appreciation of differences, and inclusive social interactions within the madrasah environment. The implementation model was carried out through the integration of multicultural values into the learning process, school culture, and students’ religious activities. In addition, the role of teachers as facilitators, support from madrasah policies, and the strengthening of a religious moderation-based curriculum became the main factors contributing to the successful implementation of the model. The implications of this study indicate that multicultural Islamic education can serve as an effective strategy for strengthening religious moderation and fostering a sustainable culture of tolerance within Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

Pedagogical innovation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) is inevitable amidst the challenges of globalization and the industrial revolution 4.0. This study aims to analyze the forms of 21st-century PAI pedagogical innovation, its implementation in educational institutions, and its impact on strengthening students' character. The research employs a qualitative approach with library research. Data analysis techniques use the Miles & Huberman model through data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that PAI pedagogical innovations encompass three main pillars: integration of digital technology (e-learning, AI, multimedia), application of active learning models (Active Learning, PjBL, Discovery Learning), and contextual approaches linking material with students' social realities. The impact of these innovations is proven significant in improving learning quality (cognitive, affective, psychomotor) and strengthening religious character such as honesty, responsibility, tolerance, and spirituality. Optimal implementation requires synergistic support from the teacher's role as innovator, holistic curriculum integration, adequate infrastructure, and a conducive learning environment. This study recommends strengthening teachers' digital literacy and sustainable policies from educational institutions to maximize the potential of pedagogical innovation in shaping morally noble and globally competitive generations.

Abstract

Qur’anic reading competence is a fundamental component of Islamic education for children, yet variations in children’s ability to recognize hijaiyah letters, articulate Arabic phonemes, apply tajwid rules, and read fluently remain a persistent challenge in nonformal Qur’anic learning contexts. This study aimed to describe the Qur’anic reading ability of eight-year-old children learning through the Ummi Method at Rumah Qur’an Baitus Shuffah, Bandar Lampung, and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing the learning process. Employing a descriptive qualitative case-study design, the study involved one Qur’an teacher and two eight-year-old students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the Ummi Method was implemented through direct instruction, teacher modelling, talaqqi, repeated reading practice, corrective feedback, and interactive learning activities adapted to children’s developmental characteristics. The students demonstrated positive Qur’anic reading competence, as indicated by their ability to recognize hijaiyah letters, pronounce most letters according to makharij al-huruf, apply basic tajwid rules, and read Qur’anic texts with adequate fluency. Supporting factors included the teacher’s pedagogical creativity, consistent repetition, direct correction, and a conducive learning environment, whereas limited concentration and difficulty articulating specific Arabic letters, particularly ṭā’ (ط), emerged as learning obstacles. This study implies that structured, repetitive, and teacher-guided Qur’anic instruction through the Ummi Method can strengthen early Qur’anic literacy in nonformal Islamic education, while collaboration among teachers, institutions, and parents is essential to sustain children’s reading development beyond classroom practice.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Self-Organized Learning Environment (SOLE) learning model on students’ learning autonomy in Islamic Religious Education (IRE). The study is motivated by the low level of students’ learning autonomy, particularly in terms of discipline and initiative. However, previous studies on the implementation of SOLE have predominantly focused on general subjects such as mathematics and science, while studies within the context of Islamic Religious Education remain limited. Therefore, this study offers novelty by examining the effectiveness of SOLE in enhancing learning autonomy in IRE. The method used in this study is a quasi-experimental design with a post-test only control group design, involving eighth-grade students as the research subjects. Data were collected using a learning autonomy questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, and were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and Mann–Whitney tests. The results show that the Mann–Whitney test produced a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) with a Z value of –3.806, indicating a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The implementation of the SOLE model has been proven to significantly improve students’ learning autonomy, particularly in the aspect of initiative. Students became more active in seeking information, more confident in making decisions, and more capable of managing time and solving problems independently. This study contributes to the expansion of SOLE implementation in Islamic Religious Education, which integrates cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. The findings also confirm that SOLE is an effective 21st-century learning strategy that supports digital literacy, critical thinking, and students’ learning autonomy.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has driven the transformation of educational practices through the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as an adaptive, interactive, and data-driven learning innovation. In the context of formal education, including Islamic Religious Education (PAI), the utilization of AI has the potential to measurably enhance instructional effectiveness while simultaneously strengthening students’ cognitive and affective domains. However, its implementation must be balanced with ethical foundations and moral responsibility to minimize the risks of technological misuse. This study aims to analyze the effect of AI utilization on students’ PAI learning outcomes and character development at SMA Negeri 14 Bandar Lampung. A quantitative approach was employed using a cluster sampling technique. Data were analyzed using SPSS through the Tests of Between-Subjects Effects. The findings indicate that AI utilization has a significant effect on improving PAI learning outcomes (F = 15.528; p < 0.05), with an R² value of 0.250, suggesting that 25% of the variance in learning outcomes is explained by AI usage. Furthermore, the effect of AI on character development demonstrates a stronger influence (F = 123.594; p < 0.05) with an R² value of 0.726, indicating a substantial contribution to students’ character formation. These findings confirm that AI integration impacts not only academic achievement but also the reinforcement of values and attitudes. Future research is recommended to expand the sample scope, develop more comprehensive experimental designs, and incorporate mediating and moderating variables to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms through which AI influences PAI and character education learning.

Abstract

Islamic Cultural History (ICH) learning should promote students’ higher-order thinking skills, particularly at the C5 cognitive level, which requires argumentative evaluation of historical events. However, at MA Darul Huffaz Lampung, ICH instruction remains predominantly teacher-centered and lacks analytical engagement, resulting in students’ low evaluative abilities. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Predict, Observe, Explain (POE) model integrated with Self Card media in improving students’ learning outcomes in ICH, specifically at the C5 cognitive level. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a Posttest Only Control Group Design, involving two eleventh-grade classes: an experimental class that implemented the POE model supported by Self Card media, and a control class that received conventional instruction. The research instrument consisted of a learning achievement test designed to measure students’ evaluative (C5) abilities. Data were collected through a posttest and analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and Mann–Whitney tests. The results indicate a significant difference between the two groups, with a significance value of 0.010 (< 0.05), confirming a statistically significant difference in learning outcomes. The POE model supported by Self Card media proved effective in enhancing students’ evaluative abilities through systematic stages of prediction, observation, explanation, and self-reflection.
