Abstract

This study aimed to determine the physical properties, organoleptic, proximate value, and cholesterol level of broiler meat given black cumin (Nigella sativa) as feed supplement and exposed to heat stress. This study used 15-day old chicken (DOC) broilers that were adapted for 14 days and treated on day 15 to day 28. This study used a completely randomised design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatment groups: P0 (commercial feed); P1 (commercial feed + heat stress 34-35 ); P2 (commercial feed + black cumin 4% + heat stress 34-35); P3 (commercial feed + black cumin 6% + heat stress 34-35 ); P4 (commercial feed + black cumin 8% + heat stress 34- 35 ). Feeding was given twice a day at 07.00 WIB and 17.00 WIB ad libitum. Heat stress was given from 10.00 - 15.00 WIB every day for 14 days. The chicken breast and thigh meat were collected on day 29 for analysis. The statistical analysis showed that feed supplement containing black cumin had no effect (P0.05) on the pH value, drip loss, texture, protein content, and structure of broiler meat given exposure to heat stress, but had effect (P0.05) on the organoleptic colour, smell and texture, and cholesterol level of broiler meat. Based on these results, it can be concluded that feeding with 4%, 6% and 8% black cumin did not change the pH, drip loss, texture value as well as protein and water content of broiler meat given heat stress, but produced better colour and aroma. The administration of 4% cumin can reduce cholesterol levels of broiler meat exposed to heat stress.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. One is the obstacles faced by cattle breeders is the emergence of diseases caused by environmental influences, such as infestation with gastrointestinal nematode worm parasites (digestive tract worms) so that rearing results are non optimal. Due to this, it is necessary to create a model and strategy for controlling diseases that are often affected, especially those caused by environmental conditions, both from the micro environment (climate) and the macro environment (maintenance management) and this is a necessity in order to obtain maximum production and productivity. The goal of this study was to see how environmental conditions affected the presence of gastrointestinal nematode worms in cattle. This study focused on the prevalence and severity of gastrointestinal nematode worm infestation in cattle in Aceh Province's lowland and highland environments. The research was conducted between February-August 2017 in three lowland districts ( 200 masl) with a sample 307 tail and three highland districts ( 600 masl) with a sample 205 tail. According to the study's findings, topographic variations, wet days, and rainfall all had an impact on the prevalence and degree of gastrointestinal nematode worm infestation in cattle (lowland environments had a higher prevalence and degree of infestation than upland environments (P0,05). In the meantime, lowlands maintenance management seemed riskier than highlands maintenance management (P0.01).Pengaruh faktor lingkungan terhadap infestasi nematoda gastrointestinal pada sapi di Provinsi AcehABSTRAK.

Abstract

The livestock fattening business carried out by the partner group in Cot Karieng Village Blang Bintang Sub-District, Aceh Besar is a part-time business with a traditional pattern. Provision of feed only relies on efforts to find field grass every day. Meanwhile, the availability of forage is very fluctuating wherein during the rainy season, fresh forage is abundantly available, while during the dry season, it is very scarce. The purpose of this activity was to increase the knowledge and skills of partner groups in procuring animal feed, especially for the dry season. The solution offered was the use of hydroponic forage cultivation technology (hydroponic fodder). The seed of the fodder plant used was corn seed. The program implementation method was carried out through a participatory approach (partners were involved and worked together) starting from the initial stage to the final stage. In the first stage, coordination meetings were held so that all involved parties understood the scope of activities. In the second stage, training was carried out on hydroponic fodder cultivation methods, while assembling and applying technology which included making fodder houses (green-houses), installing green-house water networks and the process of cultivating hydroponic fodder plants was conducted in in the third stage. The stages of the cultivation process included washing and disinfecting the corn seeds by immersing them in a 1% chlorine solution for 15 minutes, then the seeds were spread out on trays. Seed moisture was always maintained by an aeroponic system every 1-2 hours for 10 minutes. After 14 days of cultivation, 1 kg of corn seed produced 6 kg of corn fodder. After washing and air-drying the corn fodder was ready to be given to livestock. The results achieved from all the implementation of this activity are the availability of facilities for the production of fodder hydroponic fodder system and the partner groups already have the skills of cultivating fodder using hydroponic fodder system.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of heating time in the combustion process on Staphylococcus aureus contamination in grilled meatballs. A total of 9 samples of meatballs obtained from 3 sellers of grilled meatballs were divided into 3 treatments, namely burning at temperatures ranging from 56C-59C for 1 minute, 3 minutes, and 5 minutes, with 3 repetitions. Determination of the number of microbes was carried out using the Total Plate Count (TPC) method. The research data were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA analysis of variance followed by Duncan's test. The results showed that the duration of burning affected the amount of Staphylococcus aureus contamination in grilled meatballs. The best combustion was shown at 5 minutes, with a microbial count of 3.6 101 CUF/g. The results of the analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that there was a significant difference (P0.05) in the average value of Staphylococcus aureus microbial contamination in grilled meatballs given treatment. Based on the calculation results, it can be concluded that 5 minutes of burning time is the most effective for decontaminating the amount of Staphylococcus aureus microbial contamination in grilled meatballs.

Abstract

Soybean pulp and brown rice flour have a high protein content to increase the nutrients of Pekingese duck feed. The experimental research method used a Factorial Design with 5 treatments and 5 replicates, the details of the treatment were as follows: Control (a0r0), addition of brown rice flour (a1, a2, a3 and a4), and soybean pulp (r1, r2, r3 and r4). Soybean pulp 3-12% and brown rice flour 4-16% respectively. The parameters observed were feed consumption, live weight, feed conversion, carcass weight, carcass percentage, abdominal fat percentage, and meat fat content. The data obtained were processed according to the complete random design diversity analysis. Duncan's Multiple Range Test tested the values of different parameters between treatments at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that the addition of 3-12% soybean meal and 4-16% brown rice flour did not have a significant effect (P0.05) on feed consumption, live weight, feed conversion, weight and carcass percentage, except for the percentage of abdominal fat and fat content of Peking ducks. The addition of 12% soybean meal and 16% brown rice flour (a4r4) was able to reduce the percentage of abdominal fat by 47.5% and the content of meat fat by 55.2% compared to the control. This study concludes that the addition of 12% (r4) soybean pulp and 16% (a4) brown rice flour per kg of feed can reduce the percentage of abdominal fat and fat content of Peking ducks.
