Abstract

Determining existence is the personal duty of a human being. Unfortunately, this notion of self-existence is often 'lost' when associated with women. The patriarchal system has weakened the position of women because they are always seen as domestic creatures and helpless. Existential feminism has contributed to the women's movement to determine their own destinies, one of which is to become empowered women. This study uses a descriptive method using an existentialist feminism approach. As for the source of data from this study, the Korean drama entitled The World of The Married was taken. The writer is interested in studying the drama series The World of The Married because this series presents the main female character who can maintain their existence as an empowered woman in a patriarchal society.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the learning of Mandarin from the perspective of Ferdinand de Saussure's descriptive linguistics in students of Madrasah Aliyah Ma'arif NU Lampung. The method used by researchers is a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods. The data in this study is in the form of Chinese Language learning in Madrasah Aliyah Ma'arif NU Lampung students. Data sources were obtained from students, teachers, and language tutors at Madrasah Aliyah Ma'arif NU Lampung. Data collection techniques are carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis in this study used phenomenological analysis. The results of this study show that Chinese language learning has a positive impact on students. The positive impact is in the form of increasing Chinese language skills and their involvement in active and fun learning. However, some of the problems encountered in learning Chinese in Madrasah Aliyah Ma'arif NU Lampung are the introduction to Chinese characters (Hanzi) and how to write them.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the myth of female beauty in the short story "Bokko-Chan" written by Hoshi Shinichi using a feminist literary criticism approach. This study examines data taken from the story and analyzed using Wolf's (2004) theory. Based on the results of the data analysis, two types of beauty myths were found, namely the beauty myth of outer beauty (young age) and inner beauty (beauty is coldness, a little naive and innocent, non-argumentative, and tough). This beauty myth addresses the ideology of the male author (Hoshi Shinichi), namely the ideology that supports the preservation of male domination or the patriarchal system. The preservation of this domination is done through the creation of the myth of the beauty of a woman so that in the end it will shackle the freedom of women to do what they want, reveal their thoughts, and express their feelings.

Abstract

Waiting on You (WoY) is the work of Kristan Higgins, a New York Times bestselling author whose novel was also translated into Indonesian by Nina Andiana. Higgins consistently uses complex clauses in writing novels. As a result, long complex clauses are difficult to translate. This research refers to the Functional Systemic Linguistics approach which aims to: explain the interdependence and semantic logic of complex clauses in source language text are translated into interdependence and semantic logic of complex clauses in recipient language text in novel WoY; Taxis marker translation technique used in translating from source language text to recipient language; the shifts found in the translated novel Penantian Terpanjang; the quality of translation of complex clauses in target language. This method is descriptive qualitative with taxis as an object in the novel WoY, sourced from source language texts and recipient language texts from the novel entitled Penantian Terpanjang, and obtained from informants who are linguistic and translation experts. The technique is purposive sampling. Techniques of collecting data are document analysis and focus group discussions. The data validity is triangulation. The results are after breaking down sentences into clauses and analyzing them, researchers find that the most dominant form (interdependence) is paratactic, and the meaning (semantic logic) that is most widely used is the extension. Meanwhile, the most widely used technique is common. The types of shifts found are form (interdependence) and meaning (semantic logic). This shift has a positive effect on readability so that it can improve the quality of the novel translation.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis nilai-nilai tujuh lagu daerah Batak Toba yang diajukan oleh laki-laki Batak Toba kepada orang tuanya. Tujuh lagu yang dianalisis cukup populer di kota-kota besar di Indonesia, malah dibawakan dalam bahasa daerah. Disebut laki-laki Batak, khusus dari Batak Toba di Jakarta atau kota-kota besar di Indonesia adalah perantau yang berasal dari daerah Toba Samosir. Mereka yang datang ke kota sering ingin kuliah dan bekerja. Meski bertahan lama di kota, ikatan antara mereka dengan orang tua di kampung halaman terjalin kuat dan terlihat dalam bentuk karya sastra anak perantauan berupa lagu. Penelitian ini membahas pendekatan kualitatif yang difokuskan pada chorus atau referen dari setiap lagu. Data dikumpulkan dengan membaca lirik dalam bahasa Batak Toba, menerjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Inggris, dan menganalisis nilai-nilai dalam setiap lagu berdasarkan esensi terjemahan, budaya, dan pesan. Makna kalimat metamorf dalam lagu ini mengandung nilai-nilai budaya Batak Toba yang terwakili dalam kalimat metamorfosis yang perlu diterjemahkan agar memiliki makna yang sangat baik, baik dari segi makna terjemahan, budaya budaya, maupun pesan moral. Lirik lagu ini dibuat dengan ekspresi emosional yang bahkan mewakili pria Batak Toba pada umumnya.

Abstract

Peran dan fungsi kebudayaan menjadi sangat fundamental dalam struktur kehidupan berbangsa dan bernegara, karena kemajuan suatu negara dapat diukur oleh kedalaman akar nilai-nilai kebudayaan yang telah meresap dalam kehidupan masyarakatnya. Sebagai negara kepulauan, Indonesia memiliki kekayaan dan keberagaman budaya nusantara yang menjadi daya tarik unik di mata dunia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan kajian literatur terkait dengan makna budaya di Indonesia. Metode penelitian yang dipilih adalah metode (SLR) Systemic Literature Review. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan mendokumentasi dan mereview semua artikel yang terkait dengan gangguan berbahasa dan berbicara pada anak yang diterbitkan dalam kurun waktu 2014 s/d 2023. Artikel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 13 artikel jurnal nasional yang diperoleh melalui data base Google Schoolar. Berdasarkan kajian literatur yang dilakukan didapatkan hasil bahwa di Indonesia memiliki beragam makna budaya yang memiliki Sejarah tradisi yang beraneka ragam dari setiap daerah di Indonesia.

Abstract

T This research focuses to identify the types and the reasons for swearing for characters of Possession Novel (1990). It uses a qualitative method to analyze the data. It has 81 data of types of swearing, and 83 data of reasons for swearing out of 83 data. The data of this research are in the form of utterances spoken by the characters in the novel. This research finds that the types of swearing uttered by the characters of Possession Novel (1990) can be classified into five types. According to Pinker (2010), there are Dyphemistic Swearing (DS), Abusive Swearing (AS), Idiomatic Swearing (IS), Emphatic Swearing (ES), and Cathartic Swearing (CS). In addition, the study also found the reasons for swearing consisting of three motives; Psychological Motives (PM), Social Motives (SM), and Linguistic Motives (LM). From this research, it can be concluded that emphatic swearing is the most used swearing expression and psychological motives are the most dominant reasons spoken by the characters.

Abstract

A translated drama script is a work that combines many elements from narrative structure to social and artistic aspects. Translating a drama script into another language requires a deep understanding of its cultural aspects, language and artistic nuances. This translation process not only changes the words, but also adjusts artistic elements, maintains the essence of the original story, and understands and reproduces the meaning contained in the drama. This research aims to comprehend the storyline in a translated drama script using the Traditional Narrative Analysis Method in the work "Badak-badak," a translation of "Rhinocéros" by Eugene Ionesco. The research results reveal that this manuscript carries the theme of the transformation of humans into rhinos with a linear plot that follows the chronology of events. Various key characters interact in a tavern as the main setting. The storyline visualization maps events from introduction to resolution, including Slamet's drinking routine, the appearance of the rhino, character transformation, and Slamet's state of isolation. This understanding influences many aspects, including learning, teaching, and theater practice. Storyline visualization provides a foundation for cultural exploration, deeper learning, and provides guidance in planning theatrical productions. An in-depth understanding of the storyline of a translated drama script not only enriches the learning experience of theater students, but also supports the design of a cohesive and strong theater production.Keywords – Badak-badak, Narrative Structure, Rhinoceros, Translated Drama Script.

Abstract

Mathematical comprehension is essential. Due to low student engagement, class XII MIPA at SMA Negeri 2 Gunung Talang pupils' understanding is still poor. To solve this, inquiry learning was used. This study examines students' mathematical concept understanding after using the inquiry model and whether inquiry-based learning is better than conventional learning. This study used a nonequivalent posttest-only control group design and quasi-experimental and descriptive research. XII MIPA students of SMA Negeri 2 Gunung Talang in 2023/2024 were the research sample. Data research demonstrated that inquiry learning students understood mathematical concepts better than standard learners. In addition, the inquiry methodology improves students' subject knowledge.Keywords – Conventional Learning, Inquiry Model, Undertanding Mathematical Concepts

Abstract

Repetitive language style in romance literary works is not only used to create aesthetic effects, but also creates emotional and intellectual resonance that enriches the reading experience. This study aims to analyze the meaning of repetition language style in the romance Der Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse. The research uses descriptive qualitative method with semantic analysis approach. The analysis revealed that anaphora is the most dominant language style used, with the amount of data reaching 40.74%, followed by epistrophe around 31.48%, and polysyndeton 27.78% of data. Meanwhile, the meaning of repetition language style includes strengthening the character's feelings towards the world, providing structure and rhythm to the story, creating nuances and deep emotions. Repetitive language styles in romances can provide new insights into how literary works are constructed and influence readers.
