Abstract

The Direct Current (DC) motor is widely applied in various implementations. The main problem in the DC motor is controlling the angular speed on the specific reference. This research then proposed an integral state feedback design for tracking control in DC motor, with Simulink Matlab simulation and the Arduino hardware implementation. The results will be compared with the implementation of the PID controller. The integral state feedback controller can handle the system to reach the setpoint with good performance in the simulations, even with changing different poles and setpoints. In the hardware implementation, the current sensor (INA219) and encoder sensor are used since all state variables need to be calculated. Based on the result, the controller can reach the setpoint stably with oscillation. Similar results are showed in simulations with different setpoints. Compared with the PID Controller, the integral state feedback controller has a better response with faster rise time and faster settling time.

Abstract

Noise is unwanted signals in a communication or information system. Kalman filter has a good ability to handle noise. This study uses the Kalman filter algorithm that works to reduce noise at the accelerometer and gyroscope sensor output. Data were taken using the accelerometer sensor and the gyroscope sensor in a stationary condition. The device is Arduino Uno for processing the data and MPU6050 for accelerometer and gyroscope sensor. In the Kalman filter algorithm, there is process variance matrix and measurement variance matrix parameters that affect noise attenuation or reduction at the accelerometer and gyroscope output. If the difference between the two parameters is too large, then the attenuation becomes very large and eliminates the original value of the sensor output. Thus, the value cannot be chosen carelessly. The best value is the measurement variance matrix must bigger than the process variance matrix.

Abstract

The research proposed an alternative controller to control the Direct Current (DC) Motor using a sliding mode controller (SMC) in Matlab Simulink simulation and Arduino hardware implementation. The proposed controller, SMC, was designed using the system model (equivalent control) and Lyapunov control design (also to prove the stability). The sliding mode controller had a better response than PID Controller, with no overshoot response in the simulation result. In the Arduino hardware implementation result, the augmented system could reach the reference but has an oscillation and chattering effect in the control signal. The chattering could be reduced by modifying the switching control. Comparing with PID, SMC had a better response with no overshoot. Thus, the SMC could be used as an alternative controller for the DC Motor.

Abstract

The inverted pendulum system is highly popular in control system applications and has the characteristics of unstable, nonlinear, and fast dynamics. A nonlinear controller is needed to control a system with these characteristics. In addition, there are disturbances and parameter uncertainty issues to be solved in the inverted pendulum system. Therefore, this study uses a nonlinear controller, which is the backstepping sliding mode control. The controller is robust to parameter uncertainty and disturbances so that it is suitable for controlling an inverted pendulum system. Based on testing with step and sine reference signals without interference, the controller can stabilize the system well and has a fast response. In testing with disturbances and mass uncertainty, the backstepping sliding mode controller is robust against these changes and able to make the system reach the reference value. Compared with sliding mode control, backstepping sliding mode control has a better and more robust response to disturbances and parameter uncertainty.

Abstract

Today, due to the considerable growth of the power/electricity industry, the high distance between low and high loads, and also economic crisis plagued most of the countries in the world, the operation of power plants has been transformed into a vital issue. Also, increasing use of energy and lack of accountability of conventional resources in response to supply the need has created many problems, including a decrease of fossil fuel sources, adverse environmental impacts, and increase of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) all around the world. The concerns induced by this problem have caused the technologies consistent with an environment such as Electric Vehicles (EVs) to attract more and more attention. According to the capability of two-side exchange of power in these vehicles, if a significant number of them are connected to a net under management and intelligent control of an institution consistently, they can behave such a virtual small power plant with high start-up speed and without any cost.

Abstract

This paper aims to evaluate the dynamic performance of a five-phase PMSM drive using two different observers: sliding mode (SMO) and model reference adaptive system (MRAS). The design of the vector control for the drive is firstly introduced in details to visualize the proper selection of speed and current controllers’ gains, then the construction of the two observers are presented. The stability check for the two observers are also presented and analyzed, and finally the evaluation results are presented to visualize the features of each sensorless technique and identify the advantages and shortages as well. The obtained results reveal that the de-signed SMO exhibits better performance and enhanced robustness compared with the MRAS under different operating conditions. This fact is approved through the obtained results considering a mismatch in the values of stator resistance and stator inductance as well. Large deviation in the values of estimated speed and rotor position are observed under MRAS, and this is also accompanied with high speed and torque oscillations.

Abstract

In this paper, a robust flux and speed observer for sensorless control of a double star induction motor is presented. Proper operation of vector control of the double star induction motor requires reliable information from the process to be controlled. This information can come from mechanical sensors (rotational speed, angular position). Furthermore, mechanical flux and speed sensors are generally expensive and fragile and affect the reliability of the system. However, the control without sensors must-have performance that does not deviate too much from that which we would have had with a mechanical sensor. In this framework, this work mainly deals with the estimation of the flux and speed using a robust state observer in view of sensorless vector control of the double star induction motor. The evaluation criteria are the static and dynamic performances of the system as well as the errors between the reference values and those estimated. Extensive simulation results and robustness tests are presented to evaluate the performance of the proposed sensorless control scheme. Furthermore, under the same test conditions, a detailed comparison between the proposed state observer and the sliding mode-MRAS technique is carried out where the results of its evaluation are investigated in terms of their speed and flux tracking capability during load and speed transients and also with parameter variation. It is worth mentioning that the proposed state observer can obtain both high current quality and low torque ripples, which show better performance than that in the MRAS system.

Abstract

Partial shading, from obstacles such as buildings or trees, is a major challenge for photovoltaic systems, causing unpredictable fluctuations in solar energy production and underlining the need for advanced energy management strategies. In this paper, we propose an innovative approach that combines hybrid metaheuristic optimization with maximum power point tracking control (MPPT), using particle swarm optimization (PSO) in conjunction with the incremental conductance (IC) algorithm. We compare the proposed method with the conventional Perturb and Observation (PO) algorithm. The choice of PO as a comparison method is due to its simplicity, its familiarity with the scientific literature, its low cost of implementation. The main objective of swarm optimization combined with the IC algorithm lies in its ability to overcome the challenges posed by partial shading, ensuring accurate and efficient tracking of the point of maximum power, thanks to dynamic adaptation to variations in solar irradiation, thus enhancing the performance and resilience of the photovoltaic system. This approach  is of crucial importance, offering considerable potential for solving the complex challenges associated with partial shading. Our results show that this hybrid MPPT algorithm offers superior tracking efficiency 98% , faster convergence 500ms , better stability and increased robustness compared to traditional MPPT approaches. The system is composed of a PV and a boost converter that connects the input to the resistive load. The algorithms were implemented with MATLAB/Simulink as the simulation tool. These results not only reinforce the viability of sustainable energy solutions, but also open the way for the development of more sustainable energy solutions. The perspectives of this work are oriented towards a practical and extended integration of the proposed hybrid approach in real photovoltaic systems, with a particular emphasis on experimental validation.

Abstract

The issue of proper modeling and control for industrial systems is one of the challenging issues in the industry. In addition, in recent years, PID controller design for linear systems has been widely considered. The topic discussed in some of the articles is mostly speed control in the field of electric machines, where various algorithms have been used to optimize the considered controller, and always one of the most important challenges in this field is designing a controller with a high degree of freedom. In these researches, the focus is more on searching for an algorithm with more optimal results than others in order to estimate the parameters in a more appropriate way. There are many techniques for designing a PID controller. Among these methods, meta-innovative methods have been widely studied. In addition, the effectiveness of these methods in controlling systems has been proven. In this paper, a new method for grid control is discussed. In this method, the PID controller is used to control the power systems, which can be controlled more effectively, so that this controller has four parameters, and to determine these parameters, the optimization method and evolutionary algorithms of genetics (EGA) and PSO are used.  One of the most important advantages of these algorithms is their high speed and accuracy. In this article, these algorithms have been tested on a single-machine system, so that the single-machine system model is presented first, then the PID controller components will be examined. In the following, according to the transformation function matrix and the relative gain matrix, suitable inputs for each of the outputs are determined. At the end, an algorithm for designing PID controller for multivariable MIMO systems is presented. To show the effectiveness of the proposed controller, a simulation was performed in the MATLAB environment and the results of the simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
