Abstract

This study aims to examine the forms and functions of expressive speech acts found in Raditya Dika’s podcast entitled Cerita Ruang IGD. The research employs a qualitative approach using a content analysis method. Data were collected through listening and note-taking techniques applied to the utterances in the podcast. Expressive speech acts are utterances that reflect the speaker’s psychological state toward a particular situation, such as expressing gratitude, giving compliments, stating beliefs, and expressing disappointment. The results show that there are five instances of expressions of gratitude, two instances of expressions of belief, five instances of compliments, and one instance of disappointment. Each type of expressive speech act has social and emotional functions in building interpersonal relationships, as well as in portraying the speaker’s character and self-image. In this context, Raditya Dika and dr. Gia Pratama use expressive speech acts not only as a means of communication but also to strengthen emotional impressions and create a warm and intimate conversational atmosphere. This study contributes to pragmatic studies, particularly in understanding the contextual use of language in everyday communication through digital media. The findings highlight the importance of language awareness in social and emotional contexts and serve as a reference for further research in language analysis in online media.

Abstract

Within the field of Ushul Fiqh, the notions of lafaz sharih (explicit expression) and lafaz kinayah (implicit expression) serve as crucial tools in the derivation of Islamic law. A sharih statement is regarded as explicit, unambiguous, and limited to a single meaning, thus generating legal consequences automatically without the need for supporting evidence such as intention or contextual clues. Conversely, kinayah refers to indirect or ambiguous language that may invite multiple interpretations, making its legal application contingent upon the speaker’s intention and surrounding context. Classical jurists, including al-Ghazali, al-Amidi, Ibn Qudamah, and al-Syathibi, underscored this distinction by classifying sharih as qath’i al-dilalah (definitive in indication) and kinayah as zanni al-dilalah (probabilistic in indication). Using a descriptive-analytical framework and library-based research, this study examines both traditional sources and modern contributions. The analysis demonstrates that the distinction between sharih and kinayah plays a pivotal role in various domains such as family law—particularly divorce and marriage contracts—commercial agreements, and the interpretation of Qur’anic and Hadith texts. Furthermore, while kinayah is often preferred for its politeness in communication, sharih provides greater legal certainty. This divergence influences the scope of ijtihad and the ethical dimension of social interactions.

Abstract

This study analyzes adolescents' mental representations of semantic ambiguity in narrative texts and their implications on reading comprehension through a descriptive qualitative approach. Literature studies are the main data collection technique from books and scientific journals related to semantic ambiguity, mental representation, narrative texts, and adolescent reading comprehension. Data analysis involves information reduction, narrative presentation, and drawing conclusions to illustrate the relationship between linguistic phenomena and readers' cognitive processes. Lexical ambiguities in the form of polysemimes and homonyms, syntactic ambiguities of double sentence structures, and ambiguities of slang or cultural meanings result in unstable mental representations that require language decoding, inference, meaning revision, and continuous monitoring of understanding. This cognitive process increases the workload of working memory so that adolescents' reading comprehension varies, decreases the accuracy of interpretation of storylines, characters, and main messages, although it also trains critical thinking if successfully completed effectively.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the types and purposes of directive speech acts contained in Ustadz Hannan Attaki's lecture entitled "If I'm Harmed, What Should I Do?" This study adopted a descriptive qualitative method with a focus on pragmatics. The data source came from lecture recordings posted on the YouTube platform, while the data analyzed were utterances containing directive speech acts. Data collection was carried out by listening, recording, and taking notes, then the data were analyzed using an interactive analysis model that includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that Ustadz Hannan Attaki's lecture contains various types of directive speech acts, such as prohibitions, advice, and commands. The functions of these directive speech acts include preventing or prohibiting certain actions, providing advice and guidance to listeners, and directing listeners to take actions that are considered positive and useful. These findings indicate that directive speech acts have a significant role in conveying persuasive da'wah messages and increasing listeners' moral awareness.

Abstract

The study analyzes the process of first language acquisition in early childhood from a psycholinguistic perspective with a focus on neurological cognitive foundations and language disorders in Indonesian language education, identifying key neural mechanisms, inhibiting factors, and recommendations for pedagogical interventions. A qualitative approach with an interpretive paradigm is used through literature studies from psycholinguistics, child neurology, and Indonesian language education journals, analyzed following the Miles and Huberman model which includes thematic data reduction, matrix and diagram presentation, and triangulation for conclusions. Major neurological mechanisms include Broca's activation for speech production, Wernicke's for semantic comprehension, as well as high synaptic plasticity that processes Indonesian phonemes from babbling to complex sentences at the age of 0-6 years, supported by Chomsky's Universal Grammar theory and connectionist models. Disorders such as speech delay, expressive-receptive language, articulatory phonological, pragmatic autism, and stuttering disrupt the cortico-striatal and prefrontal cortex pathways, leading to limitations in vocabulary, syntax, and social interaction. Integration into the Indonesian education curriculum through sensory stimulation modules, NLP exercises, motor games, singing rhythms, and neuroimaging-based teacher training restores neural connections, accelerates lexicon milestones, and forms an inclusive ecosystem with continuous evaluation via observation and biofeedback.

Abstract

This research analyzes the concept of Khāfī Dilalāh an ambiguous legal term due to external factors from the perspectives of Salaf and Khalaf scholars, using the term al-sāriq from Q.S. al-Maidah verse 38 as a case study, with implications on some similar issues. Employing a qualitative-comparative methodology via library research, this study aims to examine how the differing approaches to istinbat the Salaf's textualism versus the Khalaf's rational-contextualism impact legal outcomes. The findings reveal that Salaf scholars tend to limit the application of law to explicit texts, whereas Khalaf scholars expand it based on the underlying ‘illat (legal reason) and Maqāsid al-Shari'ah (objectives of Islamic law). This divergence is evident in the resolution of corruption cases, which are consensually categorized as jarīmah ta'zir rather than hadd. The study concludes that this methodological difference is not merely theoretical but has direct causal implications for legal application and the relevance of contemporary Islamic jurisprudence, thereby addressing a fundamental gap in existing literature.

Abstract

This study examines the concepts of ‘Amm and Khâsh in uṣūl al-fiqh, which play a significant role in understanding the Qur’an and Hadith. The purpose of this research is to explain the meaning, types, and legal implications of general and specific expressions in Islamic legal interpretation. The method applied is library research by reviewing classical and contemporary scholarly works that discuss ‘Amm and Khâsh. The findings show that ‘Amm refers to expressions that apply to all individuals within a category without exception, while Khâsh points to a singular expression with a definite and limited meaning. This study also highlights three main forms of ‘Amm: ‘Amm yurâdu bihi ‘Amm, ‘Amm yurâdu bihi Khusûs, and ‘Amm makhsûs, whose interpretation depends heavily on context and qarīnah. In conclusion, a deeper understanding of ‘Amm and Khâsh is essential for ensuring accuracy in deriving Islamic laws and for affirming both the universal and specific nature of the Sharī‘ah in various situations

Abstract

The development of Islamic law in the modern era requires a methodology of istinbāṭ capable of addressing contemporary issues. However, in practice, confusion still arises in understanding the differences in function between Qawāʿid Uṣūliyyah, Qawāʿid Fiqhiyyah, and Qawāʿid Tasyriʿiyyah. This reality raises a fundamental question regarding the conceptual and applicative positions of these three types of legal maxims in the determination of Islamic law. This study formulates the following research problems: how do the functions and applications of Qawāʿid Uṣūliyyah, Qawāʿid Fiqhiyyah, and Qawāʿid Tasyriʿiyyah differ, and how can their integration strengthen contemporary Islamic legal methodology. This research employs a normative-qualitative method with a descriptive-comparative approach. Data were collected from classical uṣūl al-fiqh literature, fiqh works, and contemporary studies (2018–2025), and were analyzed using content analysis to identify differences, similarities, and patterns of integration among the three types of legal maxims. The findings indicate that Qawāʿid Uṣūliyyah function as the methodological foundation in the process of legal istinbāṭ, Qawāʿid Fiqhiyyah serve as practical guidelines for resolving everyday cases, while Qawāʿid Tasyriʿiyyah function as a normative basis for the formulation of Islamic law oriented toward maqāṣid al-sharīʿah..

Abstract

The Qur’an, as the primary source of Islamic law, employs a rich, diverse, and nuanced language. Among the forms of expression found within it are muṭlaq (unrestricted) and muqayyad (restricted) terms. A proper understanding of these concepts is essential, as legal rulings in the Qur’an and Hadith are often conveyed either in an unrestricted (muṭlaq) or a restricted (muqayyad) form. Classical scholars of uṣūl al-Fiqh have long examined the interaction between these two types of expressions, particularly when two legal texts address the same issue but differ in formulation one being muṭlaq and the other muqayyad. Scholarly debates also arise in cases where the legal ruling is the same but the underlying cause differs, or conversely, where the cause is the same but the ruling differs. This demonstrates the complexity of the methodology of Islamic legal derivation, which requires careful analysis of linguistic expressions, contextual considerations, and supporting evidences. Therefore, understanding muṭlaq and muqayyad is not only crucial in the theoretical domain of uṣūl al-Fiqh, but also carries practical implications in fiqh, particularly in the process of legal ijtihād that remains relevant to the evolving needs of the Muslim community.
