Abstract

Abstract Phalaenopsis orchids are recognized as the most popular orchid genus in the world, especially in horticultural industry due to their large, colorful, and durable flowers as well as their wider adaptability to room conditions. The characteristics of seedling propagated by vegetative means are not uniform; therefore, propagation through tissue culture is desirable. Although the micro propagation of Phalaenopsis has shown very good development, but the wide spread of micro propagation still limited due some problems such as the exudation of phenolic compounds, the PGR concentration, the media used, somaclonal variation, the chosen explants, etc. This paper endeavor to include some important investigations based on the common explants used; leaf and flower stalk. Keywords: Micropropagation, Phalaenopsis, leaf explant, flower stalk ReferencesAnonymous. Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Zingiberaceae is well known as gingers family with abundant numbers of spices widely used in Southeast Asia, because of their unique flavors, ornamental and also the medicinal values. The extracts of Zingiberaceae rhizome contain many essentials oils, including terpenes, alcohols, ketones, flavonoids and phytoestrogens that use as medicine. Zingiberaceae grow vigorously in a wide range of habitats ranging from riverine to the limestone area, from lowland to the upper mountain regions. They often grow in shady area but some of the native species are able to tolerate to the sun exposure. The cultivation of this family was developed widely. Gunung Cut Village is one the villages in Aceh Barat Daya district which cultivated four species of this family: Zingiber officinale, Curcuma domestica, Alpina galanga and Kaempferia galanga. They mainly use for medicinal purposes as it can cure many diseases traditionally.

Abstract

Nowadays, Aglaonema sp. becomes very famous in Indonesia. especially during the pandemic covid-19. Many people tend to stay home to stop the spreading of the virus. One of the activities that can be done during staying home is growing the plants as well as ornamental plants. Aglaonema sp. is one of the important and well-known foliage ornamental plants in Indonesia, commonly called “Sri Rezeki”. The generative or sexual reproduction of Aglaonema sp. is difficult, and it contains some endogenous pathogen. The common propagation techniques are by cutting and seed, which risky in the spreading of the pathogen. Micropropagation is an advanced technique to produce a large number of plants in a short time and pathogen-free transplant. This manuscript endeavor to include some important investigations and studies on the use of the Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) on the Aglaonema sp. micropropagation.

Abstract

Orchids are very famous for their beautiful and long-lasting flowers and variety among the most diverse family of flowering plants in the world, comprising thousand species and hybrids and very attractive. The research aimed to determine the morphological features of two local orchids Phalaenopsis amabilis L. and Dendrobium x Superbiens and the stomatal characteristics of both orchids. Plants were the only living organisms that are able to convert light energy/sunlight into chemical energy, and stomata is an important part of plants for CO2 to enter the leaf and H2O to be released during the photosynthetic reactions. The results showed that Phalenopsis amabilis L. was monopodial orchid and Dendrobium x Superbiensis a sympodial orchid. A qualitative descriptive research method used to describe and interpreted the type of stomata of Phalaenopsis amabilis L and Dendrobium sp. stomatal density were counted on adaxial and abaxial part of the leaf, and the highest stomatal density was obtained on the abaxial part of Dendrobium x Superbiensleaf 290.81 mm-2. The type of stomata was anomocytic for two local orchids.

Abstract

Tagetes is a genus consisting of several efficacious plant species known as marigold, which is native to Mexico and has  spread worldwide due to its ability to adapt to different soil conditions. This genus is very popular among gardeners because it’s easy to cultivate, adaptable, produces flowers all year round, has a free flowering habit, short duration, and the flower has an attractive color and shape. It has many flowers of varying colors such as red, orange, yellow, mixed red-orange or red-yellow, but the yellow and orange color are the most popular. The flowers contain many carotenoids, which act as antioxidants, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogen, nematicide, and cosmetics. The carotenoid can also cure fever, epileptic fits, astringent, scabies, liver complaints, stomachache, sore throat, and  can be used as a natural moisturizer, and natural mosquito repellent Besides its use as a medicinal plant, Tagetes is also used as ornamental plants and edible plants. This manuscript’s endeavour is to include some important investigations and studies about the general description, phytochemicals compounds and essential oils, medicinal uses, natural pesticides, and food and beverage uses of the marigolds.
