Abstract

Online learning is a basic need of education in the 21st century. The benefits of online learning are felt in the continuity of education during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study aims to examine the impact of online learning on the learning motivation of Junior High School students. The results of the research discussion indicate that online learning has advantages, namely 1) as a medium to encourage independent learning; 2) as an effort to modernize the concept of education in the 21st century; 3) increasing the intensity of the interaction between teachers and students; 3) allows for an interaction that is not limited to space and time, and 4) meaningful learning. The impact of online learning on student learning motivation tends to be negative due to the unpreparedness of various parties, including teachers, parents, students, and schools. Early adolescents who need direct guidance, direction, and motivation must lose control due to reduced direct interaction with the teacher. The monotonous implementation of online learning, lack of direction and supervision, pressure for students to study from home, and low teacher innovation are the main causes of decreased learning motivation due to online learning.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of reading interest in students at MTS Khazanah Kebajikan which affects online learning activeness in increasing reading interest, student understanding and students' critical thinking skills. As we already know, online learning makes learning less effective because students can easily answer all questions from the internet without reading in detail, but there are also students who are hampered in terms of facilities, technology and networks. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method based on information data collection, interviews and observations about the problems or difficulties of students during online learning and especially in increasing students' reading interest. The main target of this research is students at MTS Khazanah Kebajikan, where students lack reading interest during online learning. With the RQA model it can be seen how high the level of students 'reading interest is during online learning and can optimize students' understanding at school. Abstract

This research is motivated by many challenges faced and often occur when learning online during a pandemic like this. Many of the schools where I conduct teaching and learning activities have experienced the same problem, namely, students' inability to comprehend the material and limited communication between teachers and students. My goal in carrying out this activity at the junior high school where I teach, particularly in English subjects, is to make lessons more enjoyable and understandable for students. The method I employ is to provide material in the form of a video that incorporates animation with the goal of increasing students' interest in seeing the material, particularly the Recount Text material. Many students continue to struggle with the material they have been given, and some students are less careful in completing the assignments they have been given
