Abstract

This study examines the effects of self-efficacy, self-regulated learning, and self-determination on students’ mathematics achievement through mathematical reasoning ability. A quantitative ex post facto design was employed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The sample consisted of 170 ninth-grade students at a state junior high school in Makassar, Indonesia, selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and a mathematical reasoning test. The results show that self-efficacy and self-regulated learning significantly influence mathematical reasoning ability, which in turn has a significant effect on mathematics achievement. Both variables also show indirect effects on achievement through reasoning ability. In contrast, self-determination does not have a significant effect on either mathematical reasoning or mathematics achievement. These findings indicate that mathematical reasoning plays a mediating role in linking self-efficacy and self-regulated learning factors to mathematics learning achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the volatility of stock returns of PT Asuransi Multi Artha Guna Tbk using the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity in Mean (GARCH-M) model during the 2019–2024 period. The data used in this study are secondary data in the form of daily closing stock prices of AMAG.JK obtained from Yahoo Finance, with a total of 1,466 observations. The analytical stages include the calculation of log returns, stationarity testing using the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test, Ljung-Box autocorrelation test, ARCH-LM test, selection of the best GARCH model based on the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) and Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC), estimation of the GARCH-M model, conditional volatility analysis, and volatility forecasting. The results indicate that the stock return data of AMAG.JK are stationary and contain ARCH effects, making them appropriate for analysis using the GARCH model. Based on the AIC and BIC criteria, the best model selected is GARCH(1,2). The estimation results of the GARCH(1,2)-M model show that the ARCH and GARCH parameters are statistically significant, indicating the presence of volatility clustering and volatility persistence phenomena in the stock returns of AMAG.JK. However, the risk premium parameter in the GARCH-M model is not statistically significant, implying that conditional volatility does not significantly affect expected stock returns. The volatility forecasting results show that the volatility level of AMAG.JK stock tends to increase gradually in future periods. Overall, the GARCH(1,2)-M model is capable of describing the dynamics of volatility in AMAG.JK stock returns during the research period effectively.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and validate the IDCIR (Incubation, Divergence, Convergence, Innovation, Reflection) mathematics learning model as an effort to improve problem-solving skills and creative thinking abilities of junior high school students. The background of this research is grounded in the low levels of numeracy and mathematical reasoning abilities among Indonesian students, as reflected in the results of PISA 2022 and AKM 2024. To address these issues, this study employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach by adapting the Plomp model, which includes the stages of preliminary investigation, design and development, as well as implementation and assessment. The resulting product consists of a learning model along with supporting materials such as lesson plans, teacher's guidebooks, student textbooks, student worksheets, and assessment instruments. Validation was conducted by experts in subject matter, pedagogy, and evaluation, showing that the IDCIR model meets the validity criteria in terms of content, construct, language, and visual design of the learning materials. Practicality testing in three schools indicated that the model can be implemented effectively, its syntax is easy for teachers to follow, and students responded positively to the learning activities. Furthermore, effectiveness testing using a pretest–posttest control group design revealed that students who learned through the IDCIR model experienced significant improvements in problem-solving skills, creativity indicators (fluency, flexibility, originality), and learning engagement compared to students in the control group. Thus, the IDCIR model is declared valid, practical, and effective, and can be recommended as an innovative alternative in mathematics instruction to support the achievement of 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

Abstract

Ethnomathematics connects cultural practices with mathematical concepts, offering an engaging learning approach for students. This study conducts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of 178 articles from the Google Scholar database (2012 2022) to explore the relationship between traditional cultural activities and the concept of numbers. It focuses on cultural elements such as Maggurecceng, Engklek, and Sayyang Pattudu, revealing how these traditional games can enhance students’ understanding of number concepts, such as addition, multiplication, and numerical comparisons. The findings highlight the potential of ethnomathematics to foster mathematical abilities through culturally relevant learning activities, thereby promoting both mathematical comprehension and cultural appreciation in educational contexts. This review emphasizes the integration of culture into mathematics education as a tool for improving learning outcomes, particularly in developing numerical literacy.
