Abstract

Distortion and residual stress can have undesirable effects on weldments, such as repair work and higher fabrication costs. This study compares welding methods in reducing distortion and residual stress to obtain advantages and disadvantages. The study focused on reviewing several journals from previous research that focused on comparing welding methods. The results show that the Dynamically Controlled Low-Stress No Distortion (DC-LSND) welding method has the most significant ability to reduce distortion and residual stress and does not reduce the weld joint's fatigue resistance. The welding methods of static thermal tensioning (STT) and Transient thermal tensioning (TTT) can significantly decrease distortion and residual stress.  They can improve the fatigue resistance of welded joints. The Double Side Arc Welding (DSAW) method effectively reduces distortion. However, the application in large construction welds is difficult to achieve.

Abstract

The aerofoils are used to get the lifting force on the design of plane's wings. The lifting force is caused by difference air velocity on upper and lower aerofoil which the magnitude depend on attack angle of aerofoil and air velocity exist surrounding. This experiment aims to show the force vector (pressure distribute) on the aerofoil. The aerofoil is attached by air with konstant velocity. The research procedure is done by change the attack angle of aerofoil on five formation. The surface of aerofoil is connected with pressure gage which disperse at 11 point of measurement. The result shows that magnitude of force vector is depended on attack angle of aerofoil. Increasing angle of aerofoil until boundary angle will be followed by increasing air velocity on the point of measurement and finally increase force vector. Upper boundary angle will be followed by decreasing air velocity and finally decrease force vector.

Abstract

Control of weld defects and weld fractures in the welding construction should be done to provide the quality assurance of the welding products and to provide a positive assessment of construction to meet technical and economic requirements. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of the cooling distance on DC-LSND (dynamic controlled low stress no distortion) treatment on weld defects and weld fractures to obtain the best characteristic of the treatment. In this research, DC-LSND treatment was performed by cooling the both sides near weld line applied in welding process. The cooling media used cryogenic liquid nitrogen sprayed by nozzle. The nozzle was placed at a various distance behind the weld torch. Weld defect was investigated by radiograph test. Tensile strength was tested by servo pulser machine and weld fracture was examined by macro structure and SEM. Results showed that the DC-LSND treatment with a cooling nozzle that is too close to the weld torch has the potential to cause weld imperfections. Porosity and initial welding defect lead to the decrease in the tensile strength of the weld metal and the brittle fracture based on the fracture shape. SEM fractography shows that DC-LSND treatment tends to increase the number of inclusions that have an effect on increasing hardness.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Currently, laboratory diagnosis of intestinal tuberculosis (ITB) is limited based on clinical manifestations, providing opportunities for alternative laboratory tests to diagnose ITB. At the present time, the role of serum adenosine deaminase (ADA) and hematological tests in ITB patients are not widely known. The objective of this study was to determine the role of ADA and hematological tests in patients suspected with ITB.METHODS: Subjects that were suspected of ITB were classified as ITB group, while subjects with inflammatory bowel disease, hemorrhoid, and intestinal malignancy were classified as non-ITB group. Colonoscopy, histopathological examinations, and hematological test were performed. ADA measurement was also performed with clinical chemistry analyzer based on enzymatic colorimetry principle.RESULTS: Out of 143 subjects, 16 (11.2%) subjects were diagnosed with ITB and 127 (88.8%) subjects were classified as non-ITB group. ADA level and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) of ITB group were significantly higher than the ones of non-ITB group (p<0.05). Cut-off, sensitivity, and specificity of ADA level were 12.56 IU/L, 75%, and 57%, respectively. Cut-off, sensitivity, and specificity of ESR were 32.5 mm/hour, 81%, and 62%, respectively. Colonoscopy of ITB subjects displayed multiple ulcerations, edema, and hyperemic mucosa. Histopathological examination of ITB subjects exhibited granulomatous inflammation, epitheloid cells, giant cells, and lymphocyte aggregates.CONCLUSION: ADA level and ESR were significantly higher among ITB patients compared with non-ITB patients. Since the sensitivities of ADA and ESR tests were high, the ADA and ESR tests could be considered as a screening test for ITB.KEYWORDS: intestinal tuberculosis, adenosine deaminase, hematological tests

Abstract

Background: Chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) by Aspergillus spp., which causes slowly progressive destruction to lung parenchyma, is a major complication of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). Clinical and radiological features of CPA are not typical and might resemble TB. Therefore, detecting Aspergillus-specific IgG is critical for diagnosing CPA.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted to evaluate the performance of Aspergillus Western Blot (Asp-WB) IgG kit (LDBio Diagnostics, Lyon, France) for CPA diagnosis in 63 post-TB patients. The analysis was performed by comparing Asp-WB with Aspergillus ELISA IgG (Asp-ELISA) and fungal culture as standard method. Results: Of the 63 patients studied, twenty six (41%) met the probable CPA criteria. The Asp-WB results were positive in 13 probable CPA patients and 3 non-CPA patients, with the significant difference of 50% vs. 8% (p< 0.001). The sensitivity and specificity of Asp-WB were 50% and 93%. False negative results of Asp-WB were detected from non-fumigatus CPA that grew Aspergillus niger. CPA patients with mild symptoms (less than 3 months) indicated early progression of CPA might showed positive Asp-WB test result in low sensitivity of Asp-WB test. Conclusion: The Asp-WB has potential to use as confirmatory test to assist diagnosis of CPA in post-TB patients.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease, which involves a variety of pathogenic processes. Overall these processes result in loss of mass and/or function of pancreatic-cells which is manifested as hyperglycemia. The influence of familial factors appears to be involved in the initiation and development of T2DM through both genetic and non-genetic factors. In the same family environment as patients with diabetes, first-degree relatives of patients with diabetes show a 30-70% increased risk of developing diabetes. Insulin resistance and cell dysfunction have been identified in individuals with a family history of diabetes, even before the onset of T2DM symptoms. Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) is a CC-chemokine with an attractant effect on monocytes, memory T cells and basophils. Expression of adipose tissue MCP-1 and circulating levels were  positively correlated with adiposity. Larger adipocytes are associated with insulin resistance. This study aims to determine the changes in MCP-1 expression on monocytes before and after treatment with a high-fat diet for five days. The results showed that there was a change in inflammatory activity which was indicated by a high ratio of TNF-alfa/IL – 10 in the FDR group so that it could increase MCP-1 activity. However, there was no relationship between serum MCP-1 levels and the percentage of CD14+CD16+ monocytes in both groups.
