Abstract

Filariasis is a contagious disease caused by worms of the genus Filaria which transmitted through the bite of various species of mosquitoes. In Indonesia, the existence of filariasis cases are still very concerning. Jati Sampurna and Jati Karya villages in Pondokgede Sub-district, Bekasi District, West Java have been known as filariasis endemic area. Length of stay is presumed as one of many factors that affects filariasis occurrence in those villages. This study aimed to determine the distribution of anti-filarial IgG4 on the region and its comparison with the length of stay and residence status. This study was based on secondary data. Secondary data were obtained from primary research data done by cross-sectional method. These data were used to assess the correlation of filarial infection risk factors in pregnant women living in endemic areas based on the distribution of anti-filarial IgG4 in Pondok Gede, Bekasi district, West Java. The study showed that there was an increase in anti-filarial IgG4 against residence status (p=0.017) and a positive correlation between the number of anti-filarial IgG4 with length of stay in years (p=0.003).

Abstract

S45C steel is a medium carbon steel used for railway bogie pins due to its high strength. However, this steel does not meet the minimum hardness standard for bogie pin products, requiring further processing. The specific objectives of this study are: a) to investigate the effect of tempering temperature variations on the mechanical properties of S45C steel, and b) to determine the optimal tempering temperature and time recommended for heat treatment of S45C steel. The research method applied was an experiment with hardening treatment at a temperature of 910°C for 20 minutes, followed by tempering treatment at temperatures of 175°C, 225°C, and 275°C for 20 minutes of air cooling. The testing process carried out included tensile strength testing, hardness testing, and microstructure testing. The results of this study showed that the test specimen with tempering treatment at a temperature of 175℃ was the best among the other test specimens because it was more suitable for industrial needs. This test specimen had a maximum stress value of 948.6 MPa, a maximum strain value of 7.76%, a Vickers hardness value of 358.06 VHN, and a microstructure consisting of ferrite and martensite phases, making the tempering process at a temperature of 175℃ almost close to the standards set by the company.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Stunting due to malnutrition and soil-transmitted helminth (STH) chronic infections can cause disturbances in bone formation processes during growth. Reduced levels of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) lead to reduced osteoblast activity which can be monitored through alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and osteocalcin (OCN). Unfortunately, studies that assessed IGF-1, OCN, and ALP together in stunted children with STH infection are still limited. Therefore, in this study, the osteoblast activity was monitored by measuring IGF-1, OCN, and ALP in stunted and normo-stature children with STH infection.METHODS: A case-control study involving 28 stunted and 33 normal-stature children was conducted. Blood plasma IGF-1 and OCN levels were measured using the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method, while ALP activity was measured using the colorimetric method. STH infection was examined by direct smear method. The parameters were analyzed and compared between the stunted and normo-stature children.RESULTS: Although in stunted boys there was no significant difference, however in stunted girls with positive STH infection, a decrease in IGF-1 (<36.60 ng/mL vs. ≥36.60 ng/mL) showed an impact on the decrease of OCN levels (54.68 (42.22-144.54) ng/mL vs. 104.55 (86.14-392.73) ng/mL; p=0.047). ALP activity in children with positive STH infection showed that ALP activity in stunted children was lower than in normo-stature children (18 (10-671) U/L vs. 228.50 (16-574) U/L; p=0.005).CONCLUSION: The blood levels of IGF-1 and ALP activity in stunted and positive STH infected children tend to be lower than in normo-stature children.KEYWORDS: stunted, normo-stature, IGF-1, bone alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin

Abstract

The constraints of MSMEs emping melinjo are on the supply side, where the increase in demand for melinjo chips cannot be matched by production capacity. Production capacity is highly dependent on the drying process. The drying process of emping melinjo is highly dependent on the season. In addition to requiring a relatively long time, emping melinjo is easily contaminated by microbes, making it unhygienic. Related to the constraints faced by MSMEs, the drying process must be improved so that the drying process is fast and hygienic by implementing a hygienic dryer. This PKM activity is divided into several stages, starting with the survey and literature study stage, ending with the evaluation stage. This dryer is constructed knockdown with 5 mm transparent clear glass material, the door is made of a vertical lift door, the walls of the dryer are insulated with glass wool and equipped with a turbine ventilator for better air circulation. Based on the evaluation results, this technology is able to speed up the drying process so that MSME turnover increases by up to 79% and workers' wages increase by 66.7%, resulting in better product quality and of course hygienic.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: economic order quantity, reorder point, safety stock, total inventory cost ABSTRACT Analysis of Primary Raw Material Inventory in Bread Production Using the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) Method (Case Study: Bakery Factory X). Bakery Factory X experiences inefficiencies in managing wheat flour inventory as its primary raw material due to a manual and estimation-based ordering system, resulting in excess or insufficient and increased inventory costs. This study aims to analyze and optimize wheat flour inventory control by implementing the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) method and comparing it with the conventional method used by the company. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis utilized EOQ, Safety Stock, and Reorder Point calculations. The results show that the conventional method involves 24 orders per year with an average order quantity of 2,960 kg, whereas the EOQ method yields an optimal order quantity of 10,739 kg with an ordering frequency of 7 times per year. The implementation of EOQ reduces total inventory costs by 49%, from IDR 6,456,684 to IDR 3,307,824, with a safety stock of 317 kg and a reorder point of 773 kg. These findings indicate that the EOQ method significantly improves inventory efficiency and enhances the company’s financial performance by ensuring raw material availability and minimizing the risk of stockouts. Keywords: economic order quantity, reorder point, safety stock, total inventory cost
