Abstract

Hindus community in Bali views time as an important matter. The presence of time or Kala is associated with the myth of Magic. The relationship can be seen in the myth of Sasih Ka-enem which is believed to be the phase of epidemic. Often the myth of Sasih Ka-enem is also associated with the discourse of Ida Ratu Gede Mas Macaling as the magi figure of propagator and disaster in Bali. Interestingly, the image of Ida Ratu Gede Mas Macaling Dalem Nusa  Penida just seems to be a living myth and "offerings" for balian,  pengiring, and mysticism. Recently, many people perceive him as an object of worship, and more various interesting versions of Magi discourse about him growing in society. Because of those reasons, it is important to study the phenomenon into this scientific writing to identify the value and meaning of Magi discourse.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This community services took place in the Village of Bongkasa-Badung regency involving 29 participants of Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) in that village. The topic of this services is about the English Ethic using the appropriate English constructions in communication with English speaking tourists. Apart from being able to use English grammatically, the participants are also introduced by the appropriate ways of using communicative English in order that they feel more confident in interacting with the tourists.

Abstract

The training of Practical English for local guides was conducted in Kapal-Mengwi. The materials focused on the language functions, among others: Greeting, Apologizing and Requesting. Through the methods: orientation, drills, feedback and continuation, the participants-Pokdarwis members managed to use them practically. Abstract

This community service was conducted in Pangsan Village, Petang, Badung Regency concerning with the Introduction of the Polite English for members of Tourism Awarness Group. The participants were 40 persons originally from 4 sub-village namely (a)Pangsan; (b) Sekarmukti; (c) Kasianan and (d) Pundung. The materials of this training are concerning with English vocabulary, conversation and other related ones for tourism among others : Hotel, Airport, Shopping, Vocation.The methods of training are respectively (a) Orientation; (b) Drill; (c) Feedback and (d) Continuation. Such methods seemed to be very effective for those who have been involving in tourism activities. The members could participate directly using the polite English and managed to cope with their own daily problems. The result of this training is relatively good. This can be proved by their ability to practice the topic in every end of the session combined with the written test at the last day.

Abstract

This Community Service was conducted in Carangsari-Badung Utara, July-August 2010 in the form of Communicative English Training for the members of Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis). The members mostly work in providing services in terms of rafting, tracking, elephant camp, horse riding and safari as the potential tourism attractions owned by this village. The training materials were given through the respective steps namely : Orientation, Drills, Feedback and Continuation. It turns out that the members of Pokdarwis managed to improve their communicative ability since they have experienced in using English previously. The members expected the team to continue giving more training in the future.

Abstract

Water is well thought-out as one of the basic need of human life. Beside its significant role in incomecontribution in the region, tourism industry is almost blamed as an environmental demolisher and polluter inBali. This matter writer interest for research something result quality waste water processing at one casehotel and specific as know bacteriology and chemistry quality, because the result of quality hotel waste waterprocessing very influential about water of river already polluted as physical, chemistry and bacteriology.The study aimed to investigate water quality of Ayung River at the nearest outlet of a star hotel STP and atupper-site rive..The research of methodology is hotel waste water analysis be based on the Minister of EnvironmentLife Regulation number 52, 1995. Analysis result waste water process and water ofr river be based onGovernment Regulation number 82, 2001.The water analysis results evidently showed that water sample taken during the 1st - 3th weeks beforeprocessing at hotel’s STP were classified as heavily polluted based on water quality class I, II, III, and IV,with lowest pollution index (PI) of 33.23 and highest at 42.56. Amazingly, samples taken after STPprocessing were categorized as heavily polluted as well, based on water quality class I II, III, and IV. Thelowest PI was 13.4 and the highest at 22,15. Water sample taken at the nearest STP outlet at river wascategorized as slightly polluted based on water quality class I and fill quality criteria based on water qualityclass II, III, and IV. Water sample taken at upper-site of Ayung River was categorized as slightly pollutedbased on water quality class I, and fill quality criteria polluted based on criteria of water quality class II, III,and IV.

Abstract

This Research aim at finding nouns related to water in Balinese langage, particulary lexicon that belong to entity of human, flora, and fauna. Lexicon with noun category are analyzed using Natural Semantics Metalanguage (NSM). The data in form of oral speech spoken by native speaker of Balinese were collected from two regency, Buleleng and Klungkung. The method used to collect data is the observing method and skill method. Data analyzed by identity and distributional method. The result of data analysis is presented by using formal and informal method. The result shows that the semantic structure of noun related to water portray various structure. There are 13 nouns related to the water from three entity of human, flora, and fauna, i.e peluh, enceh, téngés, yéh cunguh, poos, tétéh, yéh mata, yéh nyonyo and banyeh. these nouns are compared to semantic prime of SOMETHING-THING which has polysemy meaning with semantic prime of PEOPLE. These nouns affect their entities positively and negatively.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the categories, translation methods, and translation ideology of Indonesian cultural terms in the novel Janda Dari Jirah translated into The Widow of Jirah. The method of collecting the data in this study was observation, meanwhile descriptive qualitative method was applied in analyzing the data. The theories of cultural categories, translation methods, and translation ideology were used to analyze the data. There are five categories of cultural terms found in the novel. Moreover, the translation methods applied by the translators were word-for-word translation, literal translation, faithful translation, semantic translation, adaptation, free translation, and idiomatic translation. With regards to the translation ideology, foreignization was more dominantly applied than domestication.

Abstract

Observasion of Special Role of Verba”Memasak”” Bali Language (VMBB): Metalanguage Analysis of Natural Semantic analyses semantic aspect, firstly lexical realization and verb classification “memasak” in Bali langage (VMBB) mainly special role of argument semantic VMBB. Determination of the argument roles VMBB using theory of general role (Macroroles) analyses semantic role VMBB. Im general, ACTOR in VMBB acts as agent, UNDERGOER act as patient. Role analyses in this observation are done in layers to determine a semantic in an argument. The analyses of this observation use the design of qualitative observation, meanwhile the collection of data is done by observation method, interview, recording, and noting. Data analysis is done by distributional method by using replacement technique (substitution). The next method is description of special role of verb “memasak” in Bali language (VMBB). Analysis is assisted with explication technique. The presentation of result analysis of the data is done by the method of description, formal, and informal. Lexicon of verba”memasak” in Bali language (VMBB) is found 12 firstly: nyakan,mubuh, ngoreng, ngepes, ngnyahnyah, nadang, nunu, nambus, ngatim, nguskus, nguling, and nglablab.The result of observation shous that the lexion of VMBB have special role firstly as agent and patient.

Abstract

This research aims at finding the types of procedures applied in translating Indonesian plant phrases into English, as well as analyzing the mapping of meaning components of the phrases from the source language to the target language. The data source is a bilingual biology textbook for senior high school students. The data in this study are in the form of two-word noun phrases about plants. Data were collected using observation method, random sampling method, and note-taking technique. The data were analyzed by using theories of translation procedures proposed by Vinay and Darbelnet and Natural Semantic Metalanguage. The result showed that the types of translation procedures applied are transposition and literal translation. The meaning components of the phrases of the source language are mostly transferred to the target language.
