Abstract

This study analyzes how farmland pawning has evolved in Indonesian agrarian communities by integrating local wisdom and the evaluative framework of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. Adopting a narrative literature review, it brings together findings from Islamic economics, rural anthropology, and legal analyses. The study traces the shift in farmland pawning from a solidarity-based to a more commercialized system. This change raises ethical concerns. These concerns include unequal benefit distribution, ambiguous contractual terms, prolonged pawning, and the potential rise of riba and gharar—contrary to Islamic principles of property protection and justice. The findings show that local wisdom values such as mutual cooperation (gotong royong), communal trust, and deliberation (musyawarah) remain strategically important for harmonizing customary practices with Islamic economic principles. The bay‘ al-wafā’ model emerges as an alternative more aligned with maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. It clarifies contracts, ensures redemption, and reduces exploitation. This study offers a conceptual framework linking local culture with Islamic law. It provides recommendations for creating a fair, ethical, and sustainable method of farmland pawning in the modern rural economy.

Abstract

The increase in research on local economic practices is not accompanied by theoretical analysis. This study explores people's behaviour in choosing partnership systems (Teseng) by analyzing the theory of planned behaviour. Therefore, this research implies that it is an instrument for measuring local economic practices from the perspective of the theory of planned behaviour. The methodology used was phenomenology with data from the Batukaropa village community, Bulukumba Regency, Indonesia. The results show that attitude toward a behaviour is indicated by a perspective of helping and strengthening kinship. Meanwhile, subjective norms consist of the perception that teseng is part of the social culture of society, and the practice of teseng reflects social status. Perceived behaviour control based on the practice of teseng is more flexible and effective than the procedures for applying venture capital in Islamic banking.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the practice of monopolies and cartels in the global market through a metaphorical approach to justice in order to expose the structural inequality hidden behind formal legal legitimacy. The object of study includes the dominance of multinational companies such as OPEC, Amazon, and Google in the global market. The method used is a critical qualitative approach with hermeneutic and discourse analysis techniques, supported by literature studies from selected academic sources. The results show that cartel and monopoly practices not only create economic distortions through market and price control, but also violate Rawls' principle of distributive justice and ignore ethical responsibilities towards stakeholders. This research develops a conceptual framework that integrates distributive ethics, stakeholder theory, social justice, and antitrust principles as the basis for developing more substantively fair market policies, so that justice in the global market must be understood more deeply as an ethical and social principle, not just a formal legal one, so that antitrust regulations can promote inclusive, equitable, and collective welfare-oriented markets.

Abstract

This study investigates the usage behavior of Shopee PayLater within the framework of Maqasid Shariah in Sinjai Regency, Indonesia. The research aims to explore user behavior patterns, identify the underlying motivations for adopting this digital credit service, and evaluate its alignment with Islamic ethical principles. A qualitative approach within a critical paradigm was employed, involving purposively selected participants, including lecturers, religious leaders, students, and community members who actively use Shopee PayLater. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Shopee PayLater usage is predominantly influenced by convenience, urgent financial needs, and social factors, leading to two primary patterns: consumptive and productive use. While the service provides benefits such as facilitating access to essential goods and supporting small-scale economic activities, it also encourages impulsive consumption and poses risks of financial distress. From the Maqasid Shariah perspective, the practice partially aligns with the objectives of preserving life and wealth (hifz al-nafs and hifz al-mal), but may contradict the protection of religion and intellect (hifz al-din and hifz al-‘aql) due to elements of riba, excessive consumption, and weak financial discipline. This study contributes to the development of Islamic fintech discourse by integrating behavioral analysis with Maqasid Shariah and offers practical insights for policymakers, fintech providers, and Muslim consumers to promote ethically responsible digital financial practices.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah–based Good Corporate Governance (GCG) on customer satisfaction, with service excellence as a mediating variable in the Islamic hospitality sector. The research adopts an explanatory quantitative design and is conducted at Sultan Alauddin Hotel & Convention Makassar. Data were collected from 212 customers using structured questionnaires and analyzed employing Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). GCG is operationalized through three core dimensions: transparency, accountability, and responsibility, grounded in Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah principles. The findings reveal that transparency does not have a significant direct effect on customer satisfaction but significantly influences it indirectly through service excellence. Accountability demonstrates a strong positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction, both directly and indirectly, indicating its dominant role in shaping customer perceptions. Conversely, responsibility does not significantly affect either service excellence or customer satisfaction. Furthermore, service excellence has a significant positive effect on customer satisfaction and serves as a crucial mediating variable linking governance practices to customer outcomes. These results suggest that the effectiveness of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah based governance depends on its practical implementation in service delivery. Integrating ethical governance with high-quality service enhances customer satisfaction and organizational sustainability. This study contributes to the literature by bridging Islamic governance principles with service management and provides practical insights for improving competitiveness in the Islamic hospitality industry.

Abstract

Poverty remains a complex and multidimensional fundamental problem, impacting not only the economic aspects but also social, educational, and public health. This condition encourages the role of Islamic philanthropic institutions such as Baitul Maal Hidayatullah (BMH) Makassar to participate in poverty alleviation efforts. The main problem is then broken down into several sub-problems or research questions, namely: 1) What is the form of implementation of the Baitul Maal Hidayatullah (BMH) program?, 2) How is the application of the CIBEST approach and decile analysis in measuring the level of welfare of mustahik at Baitul Maal Hidayatullah (BMH) Makassar?, 3) What strategies can be formulated based on the SWOT analysis to increase the effectiveness of the BMH (Baitul Mall Hidayatullah) program in supporting the improvement of the welfare of poor people in Tamalanrea District? The research method used in this study is a qualitative approach with a case study research type. This study uses sampling through purposive sampling techniques.was conducted at BMH Makassar City, with data collection through in-depth interviews with managers, beneficiaries, and related stakeholders, field observations, and document analysis. Data analysis techniques used included SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) to identify internal and external factors of the institution, as well as the CIBEST approach and decile analysis to measure the level of welfare of mustahik before receiving assistance. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of BMH Makassar programs, both consumptive and productive, namely education, da'wah and productive economic programs. The CIBEST approach and decile analysis prove that most mustahik are still in the lower welfare layer, thus requiring more targeted and sustainable interventions. The SWOT analysis revealed that BMH has strengths in transparent governance, technology utilization, and institutional legitimacy, but still faces weaknesses in program sustainability and synergy with other institutions, as well as threats from low zakat awareness and overlapping beneficiaries. The poverty alleviation strategy of BMH Makassar includes optimizing the management of ZISWAF (Islamic charity) based on sharia principles, strengthening synergies with government and private institutions, and developing sustainable empowerment programs, such as skills training, providing business capital, and mentoring. BMH also integrates technology in fundraising and aid distribution, and strengthens partnership networks to expand the program's reach and effectiveness. This strategy is expected to increase the independence of those entitled to receive alms, strengthen the social safety net, and encourage the realization of a more prosperous and equitable society.

Abstract

This study examines the growing use of digital credit services by focusing on Shopee PayLater adoption in Sinjai Regency, Indonesia, a region where limited financial access and shifting consumption patterns have increased reliance on flexible payment systems. Despite the rapid expansion of Buy-Now-Pay-Later services, little research has explored the multidimensional motivations driving their use in semi-rural communities. The study aims to identify the economic, psychological, and social motivational drivers behind Shopee PayLater usage among residents of Sinjai. A qualitative research design was employed, using purposive sampling to select community members from diverse occupations, with primary data collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis was used to classify and interpret recurring patterns across interview transcripts. Findings revealed three dominant motivational themes: economic motivations, particularly the convenience of deferred payment and financial flexibility in meeting urgent or strategic needs; psychological motivations, including emotional satisfaction, perceived modernity, and increased self-confidence from participating in contemporary consumption trends; and social motivations, such as peer influence, community norms, and the desire to avoid social exclusion in digital shopping practices. These results show that PayLater adoption is driven not merely by financial necessity but by a combination of emotional and social dynamics embedded in everyday life. The study contributes to the understanding of digital credit behavior in developing regions and offers practical implications for policymakers and financial service providers seeking to design responsible, inclusive, and culturally attuned digital financing solutions.

Abstract

The research method used is explanatory research with a quantitative approach, with a population of 1,025 MSEs and a sample of 124 MSEs with halal certification. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews and questionnaires with a 1-7 Likert scale, while the data analysis techniques used were descriptive statistical analysis and inferential analysis, namely inner model and outer model analysis, as well as hypothesis testing. The results of the study indicate that green innovation has a positive and significant effect on the business performance of micro and small enterprises in South Sulawesi -, amounting to 45.1%. This implies that the implementation of green innovation in SMEs that already have halal certification can improve business performance while promoting economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
