Abstract

Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is a learner-centred model that focuses on solving problems to train students in addressing challenges they face through real-world problem exploration. This review aims to identify research trends, methodologies, physics topics, associated variables, and outcomes in the field. The systematic literature review followed the PRISMA framework, encompassing the stages of identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. A total of 67 articles were analyzed. Articles (2020–2024) were selected using Publish or Perish, Scopus, and SINTA, focusing on PBL in physics with media integration and focusing on research trends, methodologies, topics, variables, and outcomes. Eligibility criteria included international language and publication in 2014–2024, while data was analyzed using Excel and visualized with Tableau. Problem-based learning research (2014–2024) focuses on Indonesia, with 2023 as the peak year. Mechanical physics and critical thinking dominate topics and variables, mainly using quantitative methods. Video multimedia is the most common media, highlighting the need to explore innovative media integration in problem-based learning further.  This SLR highlights key research trends and gaps, guiding future studies to enhance problem-based learning through effective media use.

Abstract

This research aims to produce the Testlets' model instrument test that measures the problem-solving abilities of high school students in West Kalimantan on motion topics. The study employed A.D.D.I.E.'s development model, which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. Three hundred four students from three different cities in West Kalimantan were involved as respondents in this study. The researchers collected data through test techniques and documentation since this study focused on the characteristics of the test. The instrument test of problem-solving abilities is designed to follow Heller's solution stages, namely focusing on the problem, describing physics, planning a solution, implementing the plan, and evaluating the answer. The results of this study are the availability of 20 multiple-choice questions, with five main questions and four testlets. The assessment instrument developed had the characteristics of validity up to 0.90 (high), reliability through Cronbach's Alpha Reliability analysis: 0.83 (very good), person reliability: 0,84 (high) and item reliability: 0.98 (excellent). The test developed is theoretically and practically feasible so that high school physics teachers can use it to measure students' problem-solving abilities more quickly because it uses a multiple-choice test.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the needs for developing a STEM-PBL-based Student Worksheet (LKPD) on Newton's Second Law at the senior high school level. As the initial stage of a research and development process, the needs analysis provides a foundation for producing a modern and effective worksheet aligned with the demands of twenty-first-century learning. A survey method was employed, involving 125 grade XI students selected through purposive sampling, together with several physics teachers in Pontianak. Data were collected using a validated needs-analysis questionnaire distributed via Google Form. The results show that physics learning remained dominated by the lecture method and conventional media such as textbooks and PowerPoint, so that student engagement was not optimal. Nevertheless, most students had positive experiences with worksheets that helped them understand the material, and both students and teachers expressed strong interest in the STEM approach and the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model, which were perceived as engaging, contextual, and supportive of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These findings indicate that developing a STEM-PBL-based LKPD is needed as an instructional-material innovation appropriate to the demands of the twenty-first century.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement in students' learning outcomes on Newton's Laws material at SMA Kemala Bhayangkari 1 Kubu Raya, through differentiated learning using the discovery learning model. The research design employed is a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of Class XI Physics 1 and Class XI Physics 2, each with 31 students, selected using the intact group random sampling technique. The instrument used was a test. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis techniques. In the pretest, the experimental class obtained a score of 25.16, and the control class 15.48, both falling  in the low category. After the treatment, the experimental class's posttest score increased to 84.83 (high category), while the control class reached 50 (medium category). Based on Cohen’s d effect size value, the effectiveness of implementing differentiated learning with the discovery learning model in improving learning outcomes was 2.042, which falls into the high category. In addition, based on a learning style questionnaire, 20 students preferred the auditory learning style. This study concludes that the implementation of differentiated learning using the discovery learning model is effective in improving students' learning outcomes on Newton’s Laws material.

Abstract

Research regarding problem-solving skills in science learning continues to expand, necessitating the mapping of publication trends on this topic. This study employed a bibliometric analysis designed to map research trends concerning problem-solving skills within science learning utilizing the Scopus database from 2002 to 2026. Data were gathered from Scopus export results on March 25, 2026, yielding 65 relevant documents. The analysis focused on the chronological development of annual publications, institutional affiliations, contributing countries, publication venues, author prominence based on citations and document counts, and keyword clustering visualized through the VOSviewer approach. The findings indicated that publications initially emerged in 2002 and exhibited an upward trend from 2018 onward, reaching a peak of 10 documents in 2025. Keyword co-occurrence analysis revealed seven primary clusters centered on problem-solving skills, science learning, students, education computing, learning systems, and problem-based learning. These findings demonstrate that research into problem-solving skills within science learning is evolving toward innovative instruction, technology integration, and the reinforcement of 21st-century skills. Theoretically, this study contributes to mapping the structure of knowledge, while practically providing guidance for researchers, educators, and curriculum developers in defining future research agendas and instructional practices in science education. This study serves as a bibliometric mapping spanning from the inception of publication until the year 2026 using the Scopus database, executed through a selection process adhering to the PRISMA protocol.
