ABSTRACT Students’ mathematical problem-solving skills are still relatively low, even though they are very important in the learning process. This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on the mathematical problem-solving ability of Grade VIII students at SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Medan. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The sample was selected using cluster random sampling, with class VIII-2 as the experimental group and class VIII-6 as the control group, each consisting of 30 students from a total of 185 students. The research instruments included tests, observation sheets, and documentation. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test. The results showed a significant difference between the two classes, where the average improvement in the experimental class reached 67.68%, while the control class was only 29.46%. Thus, the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model has a significant effect on improving students’ mathematical problem-solving skills, particularly in the topic of linear equations in two variables (SPLDV). Therefore, teachers are encouraged to apply the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in mathematics learning, especially in contextual material that requires active student involvement.

Abstract

This Community Service Program aims to optimize the use of sewing materials to maximize production output at Rumah Jahit Nila through the application of a linear programming model in the allocation and use of sewing materials in planning and maximizing production output. The implementation methods include mapping processes and data requirements and formulating a linear programming model relevant to the scale of Nila Sewing House MSMEs, as well as training and live demonstrations using QM as software to determine optimization solutions. The evaluation was conducted on 15 participants using a 1–4 Likert scale instrument with four assessment indicators, namely, training content, presenter's subject-matter expertise, event facilities, and benefits of the program. Descriptive analysis showed an overall average of 3.43 on a scale of 4, with a percentage level of 85.8%, which is in the Very Good category. In order, the indicator achievements are Presenter’s Subject-Matter Expertise = 3.53 (88.33%), Benefits of the Program = 3.47 ( 86.67%), Training Content = 3.40 (85.00%), and Event Facilities = 3.33 (83.33%). These results confirm that the competence of the speakers and the relevance of the benefits are the main strengths, while the content and facilities of the activities are areas for priority improvement. This program has successfully improved participants' technical capacity in modeling and implementing linear program-based raw material optimization, while also providing a foundation for operational implementation to reduce waste and increase throughput.

Abstract

The main challenges in learning the history of Islamic culture include students' perceptions of being more enthusiastic, low student participation, limited teacher staff, and the need to use more ICT-based learning media. This research aims to make interactive digital storybooks a learning tool to deepen their understanding of the history of Islamic culture and create exciting and interactive learning resources that can increase student engagement and expand their knowledge about values, practices and essential events in Islamic culture. This type of research and development uses the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation), with the research subjects being teachers and students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Swasta (MIS) Bhakti Mandiri Pematang Siantar, Medan, Indonesia. The results show that interactive digital storybooks significantly increase students' understanding and engagement in learning. However, it's worth being aware of some drawbacks, such as limited accessibility and potential technical issues. Nevertheless, interactive digital storybooks are still an adequate alternative in supporting students' learning about the history of Islamic culture. Limitations of this study include limited accessibility, potential technical problems and difficulties in navigating the interface in interactive digital storybooks. This research implies that interactive digital storybooks are an adequate alternative to support the learning of Islamic cultural history and have the potential to be improved by paying attention to factors such as suitability of content, pleasant design, and teacher involvement.

Abstract

Palm oil production in Indonesia currently meets  40% of the world’s consumption needs. Control and planning of  the production process in maximizing performance results that are useful for  maximizing profits and minimizing losses can be archived through optimization and scheduling. One method that can be used in scheduling optimization is the Campbell Dudek Smith (CDS) method. By using the CDS algorithm, each treatment to be completed must go throught the work process on each production machine (flowshop) to get the minimum makespan value. This method can be used to sort jobs in the palm oil production process which is carried out at several stations. Where each machine works according to the production process sequence schedule. The results of the optimal job sequence in the palm oil production process using CDS are : J1  J2 J3  J4  J5  J6  J7 J8  J9 J10 J11 J12  J13 with an optimal makespan value of 404 minutes.
