Abstract

The study aimed to explore the correlation between mathematics and culture in the Cakalele dance and its application into mathematics learning. This research was exploratory research, utilizing ethnographic methods. The subjects consisted of six people, where five people were from Kampung Baru village, Kecamatan Banda subdistrict (three dancers and trainers, one traditional expert, and one community leader) and with one mathematics teacher from SMP Negeri 34 Central Maluku. The research findings on Cakalele dance culture reveal elements such as types of movements, attire and accessories, weaponry and musical instruments, displays, all incorporating mathematical concepts such as lines and angles, triangles and quadrilaterals, spatial shapes, and geometric transformations. Mathematical elements found in the Cakalele dance can be applied in education by utilizing musical instruments and kapseti as contextual objects to teach the shapes of cylinders and cones to 9th grade junior high school students. The use of movements like (bunga), salawaku, gestures, and gong as teaching media for geometric transformations supports realistic and contextual outdoor learning experiences.

Abstract

This study intends to describe the process of students' mathematical literacy in algebra content with a conceptual-tempo cognitive style. We employed a descriptive qualitative research approach. We conducted this research at public high school 23 in Makassar. The MFFT (Matching Familiar Figure Test) helped us choose the people who would be in the study because it finds students with a conceptual tempo cognitive style. The data collection technique uses instruments in the form of mathematical literacy test sheets, interview guidelines, and documentation. This study employs a qualitative data analysis technique. The study's findings showed that students who learned to think quickly and correctly were able to answer level II and IV questions by completing three parts of the literacy process: formulating, using, interpreting, and evaluating. Students with an impulsive cognitive style in solving level II and IV questions were only able to fulfill 1 aspect of the literacy process, namely the aspect of formulating. Students with a reflective cognitive style are capable of addressing three aspects of the literacy process, which include formulating, using, interpreting, and evaluating information. Additionally, students with a slow, inaccurate cognitive style in completing level II and IV questions are only able to fulfill 1 aspect of the literacy process, namely the aspect of formulating.

Abstract

The needs analysis for implementing Project-Based Learning (PBL) with Aswaja values in mathematics courses at the Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) Program is essential to assess student and lecturer readiness, challenges, and preferences. This study aims to analyze the need for a PBL model with Aswaja values to enhance students' mathematics learning outcomes at the Islamic University of Makassar. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the study explores the application of this model in PGSD mathematics courses. Data were collected from students and lecturers through observation, documentation, and questionnaires, then analyzed using qualitative techniques, including coding, analysis, data triangulation, and presentation. The findings indicate a strong need for a PBL model with Aswaja values, as seen in three key aspects: learning model needs, learning challenges, and learning expectations. This study contributes to integrating PBL with Aswaja values systematically, enhancing both mathematical understanding and character development in PGSD students.

Abstract

Many students experience difficulties in understanding and connecting mathematical concepts with real-life situations around them. This study aims to analyze the obstacles faced by students in constructing contextual mathematical problems based on their mathematical connections. Using a qualitative approach through literature review, this study identifies various challenges encountered by students, including limited conceptual understanding, difficulties in relating mathematical concepts to real-life situations, and an inability to transform concrete information into abstract mathematical models. The findings indicate that understanding mathematical connections is essential for enhancing students' abilities to solve context-based problems.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine wheter there was the influence of discussion method with geoboard teaching aids to students’ mathematics learning achievement. The type of this research was a quasi-experiment involving two groups with different treatment. The population of this research was students of grade VII and selected two classes by cluster random sampling as the research sample, that were class VII-4 and VII-5. The results obtained that: (1) students’ mathematics learning achihevement who were being taught by using discussion method with geoboard teaching aids is higher than the students’ mathematics learning achievement who were being taught by using discussion method. (2) The improvement of students’ mathematics learning achievement who were being taught by using discussion method with geoboard teaching aids is higher than the improvement of students’ mathematics learning achievement who were being taught by using discussion method. From the results of this research, it can be conclude that there is influence of discussion methods with geoboard teaching aids to students’ mathematics learning achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the description of the mathematical communication ability of students in solving a contextual problem . This type of research is descriptive research using a qualitative approach. The subject of this research are students of class XII. Retrieval of the subject is performed by providing a test of the initial ability on to students then from the results of the test selected 4 subjects based on existing categories. The instrument used are written mathematical communication ability test and interview guidelines. The results showed the ability of written communication of research subject are writing information contained in the questions and define the main objectives to be achieved. But the subject are weak in the ability meuliskan mathematical operations in accordance with the purpose of questions, use of pictures or scientific notation in solving a problem, presenting a representation of the entire to the concept that is used and write a conclusion answer into daily language. The results of this study are expected to add insight about the mathematical communication ability, especially in working on contextual so that in the process of learning students are able to improve the ability to communicate in the language of mathematics

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effect of creativity and learning motivation on mathematics learning outcomes based on students' learning styles. This research is an ex-post facto research. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 7 Bulukumba. Data collection techniques used learning style questionnaires, learning motivation questionnaires, learning creativity tests, andmathematics learning outcomes tests. The results of this research indicate that (1) students' learning styles are divided into visual and auditory learning style, (2) students' creativity based on visual and auditory learning style are in the good category, (3) students' learning motivation based on visual and auditory learning style is classified in the very good category, (4) learning outcomes of mathematics based on visual learning style are classified into the sufficient category, while based on auditory learning style are classified into good categories, (5) creativity and learning motivation have a joint effect on mathematics learning outcomes based on visual and auditory learning style, (6) creativity has a positive effect on mathematics learning outcomes based on visual and auditory learning style, (7) learning motivation has a positive effect on mathematics learning outcomes based on visual and auditory learning style.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze students’ errors and the factors that cause students’ errors in solving problems of two-variable linear equations system based on Newman’s stages viewed from initial mathematical ability. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The subject of this research is students grade IX that consists of six students which two people for each level of initial mathematical ability. Data collection techniques in this research are test and interview. The research instrument was used, namely the initial mathematical ability test, a diagnostic test of a two-variable linear equation system, and interview guidelines. The data analysis techniques in this study include the condensation of data, the presentation of data, and the verification or drawing of conclusions. The result shows that: (1) Students with high initial mathematical abilities make mistakes in processing skills and writing in answers; (2) Students with medium early mathematical abilities are making mistakes in understanding questions, transforming questions, processing skills, and writing answers; (3) Students with low initial mathematical abilities make errors in reading questions, misunderstanding questions, transformation, processing skills, and writing answers. The factors that most often cause students' errors in solving the Two-Variable Linear Equations System material problems are students being less thorough and hastily working on the questions, have not mastered the prerequisite material, and as the result of previous mistakes.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the students understanding concept in terms of understanding the concept as well, understanding the concept but not sure, misconception, and not knowing the concept of exponent using Certainty of Response Index (CRI). The type of this study is qualitative study with descriptive approach. The subject of this study is 11 subjects who represent each level of conceptual understanding from class XI of Senior High School. The instruments of this study consist of objective test and interview guidelines. Level of conceptual understanding categorized using CRI category. The result of this study showed that: (1) The students understand with the concept as well because of their high motivation in learning and their love with mathematics. (2) The students understand with the concept but not sure because of their lack in self-confidence, their high false fear, lack in mastering the mathematic concept, and do not careful in answering the questions. (3) The Students experiencing misconceptions that caused by a lack of understanding, and even a misunderstanding towards the concept. (4) The students do not understand/ do not know the concept caused by their haven’t knowledge in answer the question of eksponent, their lack of ability and insight in working on the questions, lack of mastering the concept, not understanding the questions, and the students lack ability in transform the questions.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the comparison of student learning achievement through the application of the cooperative model type Snowball Throwing and Make a Match in mathematics learning. This research was an experimental research involving two groups treated with research sample of 47 students from class VII SMP Sinjai selected by using the double cluster random sampling technique. Techniques of collecting data using instruments: (1) observation sheet of learning model implementation and (2) tests of mathematics learning result.Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and inferential statistics with t-test analysis. The results showed that : (1) Average score of mathematics learning achievement of 25 students after learning using the Snowball Throwing type of cooperative learning model which is 4% in the very low category, 40% in the medium category, 36% in the high category and 20% in the very high category. (2) The average score of mathematics learning achievement from 22 students after learning using the Make a Match type of learning model is 9.09% in the very low category, 4.54% in the low category, 50% in the medium category and 18, 18% in the high and very high categories. (3) There is no significant difference between student achievement after applying the snowball throwing type cooperative learning model and the type of make a match in Class VII Junior High School with the Rectangular Build Up material.
