Abstract

This study aims to find out the misconceptions that occur in buffer solution materials using two-tier diagnostic tests instrument. The instrument was developed based on the buffer solution material competency indicators into 10 questions and was declared valid for use. The research was conducted on level I and III college students and students totaling 159. The results showed that there was a misconception on the concept of buffer solution properties of 24.6%, the concept of buffer solution composition was 24.1%, the working principle of buffer solution was 29.3 %, and the concept of pH solution is 25.4%. he cause of the misconception is because the initial concept of the respondent is weak, the teacher's explanation often simplifies the concept, the habit of the respondent to memorize, understanding the language and weak mathematical concepts, and learning models that have not provided the opportunity for respondents to understand the components and principles of working buffer solutions microscopically. Knowledge of misconceptions is needed as an evaluation of teachers and lecturers to be more motivated to implement learning models that are able to overcome misconceptions to prevent wider misconceptions in learning chemistry that make chemistry difficult. Abstract

[English]: Introducing the surrounding ecosystems to students early can yield significant ecological and economic impacts. However, environmental literacy has not been adequately introduced to students at the primary level. This community service activity aims to improve the environmental literacy of primary-level students, particularly related to mangrove ecosystems. Forty-eight students in Petiken Village and Karangandong Village, Gresik Regency, were involved in introducing the concept of environmental literacy through the mangrove ecosystem, which is a natural resource in the Gresik Regency coastal area. The learning method used in this community service program was experiential learning, or learning through direct experience. This method also directly applied the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach, where there was significant community involvement in the development of their village. The evaluation results show a statistically significant increase in the knowledge and behaviour of primary-level students towards the environment. The results of this program have implications that crucial issues that are important to know from an early age can be taught through experiential learning methods. Abstract

This study aims to identify the misconceptions of 10th-grade students of a Senior High School (SMA N 1) Ciawi Bogor on chemical bonding by using a two-tier diagnostic test consisting of nine questions. The research method that was carried out was quantitative research with adescriptive approach. The participants of this study were classes X-2, X-4, and X-8 of SMAN 1 Ciawi in the academic year 2023/2024, with a total sample of 96 students taken from three classes using purposive sampling. Moderate misconceptions concerning ionic bonding have been discovered in the responses provided by the students for questions 1 and 2, with percentages of 37.50 and 34.38%, respectively. In Question 3, which covered lattice and intermolecular forces on silicon carbide, misconceptions among students were found to be 72.92%, indicating a high level of misconception. The percentage of students experiencing misconceptions about ionic bonding in question 4 (58.33%) was considered moderate. Students' misconceptions about bonding and intermolecular forces on magnesium oxide were determined to be relatively low, at 30.21%. Students who experienced misconceptions about the conductivity of graphite (Question 6) were 43.75%, which can be categorized as moderate misconceptions. In Question 7 about sulfur, student misconceptions were observed at 15.63%, but there were 47.92% who did not have prior knowledge about sulfur as a simple molecular compound. When asked about the differences in intermolecular forces on water and hydrogen sulfide, the percentage of students who had misconceptions was observed at 50.00%, then on the concept of lattice and intermolecular forces on macromolecules at 25.00%. These results are also influenced by students' prior knowledge of macromolecules, which is quite limited. Teachers and educators can employ some potential futuristic instructional methods to help students understand chemical bonding more efficiently, such as implementing VR and AR simulations, integration of gamification and game-based learning, andvirtual field trips and interactive demonstrations.
