Abstract

This study reviews the learning of the Engineering Design Process (EDP) with the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) approach that is operationalised. The review summarised and evaluated research articles published between 2014 and 2024, which specifically focus on the integration of EDP learning models with STEM approaches. This study uses the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework and follows the CRAAP Test, an evaluation tool used to assess the reliability, relevance, and credibility of the selected paper. After a rigorous search and selection process, 28 unique empirical studies were identified that explored the integration of EDP models with STEM approaches at various levels of education, from elementary school to college. The review revealed that there are only three topics that are suitable for integrating EDP learning models with STEM approaches in elementary schools. Limited research exists about the adaptability, obstacles, and support of STEM-based EDP implementation in primary schools, focusing mostly on identification rather than in-depth studies. In addition, various instruments can be leveraged to facilitate the integration of EDP-STEM learning models in primary education. This result found a gap for further research on STEM-based EDP in elementary schools as a trend of scientific contribution related to the use of STEM-based education in elementary schools.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate how early childhood education (ECE) teachers comprehend and use learning techniques that promote the development of executive function in young children. The three primary components of executive functions—working memory, inhibitory control, and cognitive flexibility—are essential to children's self-regulation and preparation for learning. Several early childhood education teachers in the Jakarta and Bekasi regions were interviewed in-depth to gather data using a qualitative methodology. The research findings indicate that most teachers are not familiar with the term "executive function," but in practice, they have been conducting activities that support these aspects in daily learning. Nevertheless, the implementation of these activities has not been fully directed or recognized as part of executive function development. Therefore, efforts to enhance teacher professionalism through specialized training or seminars are needed so that their understanding and pedagogical practices can be more optimal in supporting the development of executive functions in early childhood.

Abstract

In-service Teacher Professional Education (PPG) (Daljab) is an educational program designed to produce professional teachers. The program aims to provide prospective teachers with the competencies, skills and knowledge necessary for them to teach effectively in schools. However, in reality, the implementation of PPG still has many obstacles faced by the Educational Institutions for Educational Personnel (LPTK) and PPG participants. The approach used is descriptive qualitative with the number of informants is 12 people with details of 1 from the LPTK, 6 lecturers and 5 from PPG participants. To obtain the data needed in the research, data collection techniques were used in the form of; literature study, interviews, and documentation. The analysis used in this research is by coding, presenting data, and verifying data. The results showed that the implementation process of PPG policy for PAUD teacher certification was not optimal, especially in the aspect of learning theory with minimal interaction, as well as administrative monitoring. Collaborative strategies are needed between LPTK and participants through strengthening infrastructure, and a more interactive learning approach to support the professional competence of PAUD teachers.

Abstract

This research uses sociological juridical with an empirical approach. Primary data used is Law Number 32 of 2009 concerning Environmental Protection and Management. Meanwhile, secondary data is in the form of statutory regulations, books, and journals relating to environmental criminal law enforcement related to environmental pollution due to electronic waste. The legal material analysis technique used is deductive. To obtain data that matches the facts in the field, this research was located at the Sidoarjo Regency Environment and Hygiene Service. The results of this research found that government officials as providers of authority or permits regarding the environment, especially electronic waste, only carried out outreach. Administrative law enforcement carried out by the Sidoarjo Regency Environment and Hygiene Service is still not running optimally and only has the authority to issue permits for B3 waste collection on a district scale. Then, the public as law enforcers tend to be indifferent, such as the lack of level of compliance in complying with provisions related to the obligation to carry out electronic waste management.

Abstract

Critical thinking is a key competency for 21st-century students, essential for logical reasoning, decision-making, and academic success. However, studies indicate that Indonesian students often exhibit low levels of critical thinking. Chemistry, particularly topics like oxidation-reduction reactions, offers real-life applications, such as waste oil disposal, that can be leveraged to improve these skills. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of integrating dilemma stories into project-based learning (PBL) to enhance students' critical thinking skills in the context of oxidation-reduction reactions. The study was conducted at SMAN 77 Jakarta with 36 students from Class X Mathematics and Natural Science 2. A qualitative approach was used, with data collected through observations, reflective journals, interviews, and critical thinking tests. The integration of dilemma stories in PBL was implemented through five stages: value reflection, problem-solving, project development, monitoring and evaluation, and transformation. The findings indicate significant improvements in students' critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Based on test results, students achieved level 3 (Acceptable) in critical thinking. The approach also enhanced their understanding of chemical concepts and awareness of addressing real-world problems. The integration of dilemma stories within PBL has proven effective in fostering critical thinking and other 21st-century skills in chemistry learning. This approach can serve as a model for innovative educational practices in STEM subjects.

Abstract

Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) have gained increasing prominence as an innovative pedagogical model that integrates authentic research into the undergraduate curriculum. While extensive research has highlighted the general benefits of CUREs across STEM fields, a focused synthesis of their implementation and impact specifically within chemistry education remains underexplored. This narrative review addresses this gap by analyzing ten recent, peer-reviewed studies indexed in Scopus to characterize how CUREs are designed, implemented, and evaluated in undergraduate chemistry contexts. The findings demonstrate that CUREs shift traditional laboratory instruction toward inquiry-based, authentic research experiences that foster critical thinking, increase student engagement, and enhance retention in STEM, especially within inclusive learning environments. However, challenges such as faculty workload, scalability, and research output persist. By consolidating insights across current literature, this review contributes a field-specific understanding of CUREs in chemistry education and offers implications for curriculum design, institutional support, and future research directions. In doing so, it fills a critical gap in the literature and underscores the evolving role of CUREs in preparing the next generation of chemists through evidence-based, research-intensive teaching practices.
