Abstract

This research aimed to analyze how the assessment of writing skill English students’ at University of HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar. This research was carried out at UHKBPNP. The researchers used qualitative approach with case study method. The subject of this research is 2th semester students of UHKBPNP, with consist of 25 students. The research design of this research was qualitative approach with case study method. The instrument of collecting data used writing test. The findings of the research: (1) Content aspect score was 16,52; (2) Organization aspect score was 15,4; (3) Vocabulary aspect score was 15,48; (4) Language use aspect score was 15,64; (5) Mechanics aspect score was 15,68. The result of the research showed that the students experienced mostly in excellent to very good level

Abstract

This research aims to explore the impact of the Listen Read Discuss (LRD) strategy on the reading comprehension abilities of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Pematangsiantar. Employing a quantitative approach, the research utilized a quasi-experimental design that includes two groups: an experimental class instructed using the LRD strategy and a control class taught without it. To evaluate the outcomes, the researchers administered both pretests and post-tests to each class. The findings revealed that the experimental class achieved mean scores of 54 in the pretest and 80.46 in the post-test, while the control class recorded mean scores of 53.21 and 71.21, respectively. With degrees of freedom calculated at 54 (28 + 28 - 2), the t-table value was 2.00, and the t-test value was 2.44. This indicated that the t-test exceeded the t-table (2.44 > 2.00), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis. The application of the LRD strategy significantly enhances students' reading comprehension abilities concerning recount texts at SMA Negeri 1 Pematangsiantar.

Abstract

Peneliti memutuskan untuk mengimplementasikan Permainan Kata Rahasia dalam penelitian ini, yang bertujuan untuk menilai dampak permainan ini terhadap penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris di antara siswa kelas tujuh di SMP Swasta Tamansiswa Pematangsiantar pada tahun ajaran 2024/2025. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuasi-eksperimental dengan metode kuantitatif. Dua kelas dilibatkan: kelas eksperimen (VII-A) dan kelas kontrol (VII-B). Peneliti memilih populasi sebanyak 60 siswa kelas VIII, dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling untuk memilih sampel untuk kedua kelas. Untuk menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan rumus uji-t untuk menentukan apakah penggunaan Permainan Kata Rahasia mempengaruhi penguasaan kosakata siswa. Di kelas eksperimen, skor rata-rata pre-test adalah 61,6, sedangkan skor post-test adalah 80,6. Sebaliknya, kelas kontrol memiliki nilai rata-rata pre-test 59,83 dan nilai post-test 71. Standar deviasi untuk kelas eksperimen adalah 1,270, dan untuk kelas kontrol adalah 1,235. Setelah menghitung rata-rata dan standar deviasi untuk kedua kelas, peneliti menggunakan rumus t-test, yang menunjukkan bahwa nilai t-test melebihi nilai t-tabel pada tingkat signifikansi 5% (5,519 > 1,672). Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima, sedangkan hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan Permainan Kata Rahasia secara positif mempengaruhi penguasaan kosakata siswa, khususnya di kelas tujuh.

Abstract

Based on the explanation above, the researcher decides to conduct a research on inflectional morphemes errors in the recount text written by third semester students, this research is expected to identify of errors in using inflectional morphemes. So the researcher comes to the title “Error Analysis in Using Inflectional Morphemes Students’ Recount Text of English Students”. Based on definition above the researcher used a qualitative research because the researcher want to find out the types of errors in using inflectional morpheme in writing recount text of English students. The researcher taken one group of three groups of that English Department with consists of 30 students in a group. The study applied descriptive qualitative settled in collecting the case study that used to gain detail information concerning students’ error on inflectional morpheme in writing recount text. Based on the students writing recount text composition there are 106 errors. Based on the data, the writer classified the errors that occur into some categories as well: Addition, Omission, Misformation, and Misordering. The result of this research indicates that there are a number of errors made by third semester students of UHKBPNP English students in writing recount text using inflectional morpheme. Based on research finding, the researcher was concluded: “There are four types of errors commonly made by the students’ recount text using inflectional morpheme namely error of addition, omission, misformation, and misordering.
