Abstract

Era digital memiliki tantangan dalam pembelajaran bahasa dapat dijawab melalui penerapan media animasi. Seiring dengan itu, pembuatan media animasi dalam membelajarkan siswa belum terlihat optimal maka tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk memperkenalkan pembuatan media animasi kepada guru-guru dalam pembelajaran bahasa serta melihat keefektifan penggunaan media animasi dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa. Metode yang dilakukan dalam kegiatan ini adalah mencakup ceramah variatif disertai dengan praktek langsung. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah berupa kecakapan guru-guru dalam membuat media animasi terkhusus dalam pembelajaran bahasa. Sebelum adanya kegiatan ini masih sangat kecil persentasi guru yang dapat membuat dan menggunakan media animasi dalam pembelajaran. Terlihat antusiasme guru dalam kegiatan ini yaitu ≥ 95 % guru telah mampu membuat dan menggunakan media animasi dalam pembelajaran bahasa di SD 091537 Hutabayu. Hal ini sangat efektiv untuk membuat siswa tetap antusias mengikuti pembelajaran khususnya pada pembelajaran bahasa.

Abstract

Community service is a form of contribution carried out by individuals or groups to enhance well-being and provide positive benefits to the community at large. This activity is undertaken with the aim of assisting, empowering, and offering solutions to various problems or needs faced by the community. This program was inspired from the writers’ desire to improve the students’ understanding and mastery on Simple Past Tense at Senior High School of Harapan Mandiri School Medan in the third grade XII IPA IV in which the students consisting of 36 students. This program was conducted during one week on August 2023. This activity implements real-life context learning model in improving the students’ understanding and mastery on simple past tenses. This program runs successfully and as it was expected. The students undergo the progress after the program conducted, for instance, the students are able to write the composition using simple past tense with theme such as last holiday or past experiences, they also are able to use the simple past tense to be, modals and verbs in speaking. The Real-Life Context learning model has had a significant impact on education like conducted in Senior High School of Harapan Mandiri Medan, as it has contributed to increased student engagement, motivation, and preparedness for getting learning success especially English. Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the effect of the U-Dictionary Application for the students’ pronunciation on grade eight in teaching speaking at SMP Swasta Taman Asuhan Pematang Siantar. The method used quantitative with quasi-experimental research method with pre-test and post-test design. Two classes provided the data: the experimental class and the control class. In this research, VIII-A was the experimental class, while VIII-B was the control class. There were 28 students in each class, for a total sample size of 56. The pre-test mean score for the experimental class was 64.75, whereas the mean score for the control class was 64.50. Conversely, the experimental class’s post-test mean score was 78.92, whereas the control class’s post-test mean score was 69.57. The data was then examined by the researchers using a t-test. The T-test showed a greater degree of significance (2,7 > 1.674) compared to the T-table. Results showed that using the U-Dictionary Application for students’ pronunciation on grade eight teaching speaking at SMP Swasta Taman Asuhan Pematang Siantar had a substantial impact. Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected.

Abstract

This research aims to determine whether the use of picture books has a big impact on students' ability to read narrative texts. At SMP Negeri 10 Pematangsiantar, researchers conducted this research using quantitative methods and a quasi-experimental design approach. The population of this study was 201 class IX students. The instruments used to collect data are based on students’ pre-and post-test results. Based on research findings, the average score of the experimental class on the pre-test and post-test was 54 and 75, respectively. The average score of the control group was 58.65 on the pre-test and 65.57 on the post-test as well. The t-test results show (3.7 > 1.677) that the t-test value is greater than the t-table value. H0, the null hypothesis, is refuted. Keeping this in mind, it can be said that picture books play a major role in helping students improve their reading skills, especially in narrative texts.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the learning to listen to English UHKBNP students during the Covid-19 pandemic which had not been carried out properly because students' understanding of listening skills was still lacking. The teaching and learning process during the pandemic was increasingly difficult for students to experience, resulting in disruption of the teaching and learning process. This also reduces the activeness of students in participating in listening lessons. The learning media used are also less effective, moreover the learning techniques used are still less varied. The purpose of this study was to analyze how effective the use of YouTube media was on the listening skills of UHKBNPP English students during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research method used was quasi-experimental without a control class. The steps to be carried out in this research are; 1) Do a pre test; 2) Doing treatment using Youtube media; 3) Do a post test, then conclude. Based on the t test results, there was a significant difference between the control group and the experimental group in listening ability. The experimental class that used YouTube media showed significant improvement compared to the control group. The conclusion from this study is that there is effectiveness of YouTube media in improving students' listening skills during the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Sikap bullying menjadi salah satu penghambat sebuah kesuksesan jika dihadapi dengan respons negatif. Namun, berbeda jika merespons hal tersebut dengan lebih positif, penuh rasa percaya dengan kemampuan sendiri. Maka hasilnya akan sukses dan memberikan motivasi bagi orang lain untuk bisa menjadi orang sukses tanpa melupakan masa lalu. Bullying menjadi penghambat untuk kesuksesan, buktinya orang sukses pun masih mendapatkan prilaku bulying tersebut yang membuat ia harus lebih keras lagi untuk berusaha dalam membuktikan mimpinya. Maka dari itu, perilaku bullying seharusnya diberantas dengan memberikan pendidikan moral kepada anak-anak sejak kecil. Orang tua juga harus mengingatkan bahwa bercanda dengan menghina orang lain adalah perbuatan yang tidak boleh dilakukan. Membiasakan anak berbuat baik dan saling menyayangi. Karena dampak dari bullying sangat besar dalam pengaruh kedewasaan seseorang dalam meraih impian dan cita-cita hidupnya. Terutama jika terjadi pada seorang anak kecil. Menyikapi permasalahan tersebut, penulis telah merancang beberapa metode, teknik, dan strategi untuk meningkatkan kosakata untuk kebutuhan remaja dan muda mudi.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the Top Down and Bottom Up strategies had a significant effect on students' listening skills. This research was conducted with quantitative experimental research. The population of this research is the third semester students of HKBP Nommensen, Pematangsiantar University. The samples of this study were two classes which were selected by random sampling. There are 60 students. Class I as many as 30 students as the experimental group who were taught using the Top Down and Bottom Up Strategy and class II as many as 30 students as the control group who were taught without using the Top Down and Bottom Up Strategy. The instrument for collecting data is a test. To obtain the reliability of the test used the Kuder Richardson formula (KR21). The results showed that there was a significant effect of using Top Down and Bottom Up Strategies on students' listening skills.

Abstract

This research was carried out to find out the effect of YouTube Video on students’ ability in writing recount text at grade VII of SMP Negeri 8 Pematangsiantar which is conducted in two classes, namely the experimental class (VII-4) consisting of 30 students and control class (VII-3) consisting of 30 students. The writing test is used as the data collection instrument for the pre-test and post-test. The writing rubric score three elements: orientation, events and re-orientation. The experimental class mean score on the pre-test was 69,6 and the mean score of control class was 66,3. On the other hand, the mean of score in experimental class on post-test was 83,7, while the mean score of control class on post-test was 70,13. To acquire data, the researcher used test as instrument. The result of t-test was 8,023 which was higher than t-table at 5% of level significance (1,672). The result of significance value indicates that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, while the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It meant that there was significant effect by using YouTube Video at grade VII of SMP Negeri 8 Pematangsiantar in writing recount text.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze how the assessment of writing skill English students’ at University of HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar. This research was carried out at UHKBPNP. The researchers used qualitative approach with case study method. The subject of this research is 2th semester students of UHKBPNP, with consist of 25 students. The research design of this research was qualitative approach with case study method. The instrument of collecting data used writing test. The findings of the research: (1) Content aspect score was 16,52; (2) Organization aspect score was 15,4; (3) Vocabulary aspect score was 15,48; (4) Language use aspect score was 15,64; (5) Mechanics aspect score was 15,68. The result of the research showed that the students experienced mostly in excellent to very good level

Abstract

This study examines the philosophy of language as presented in contemporary master's theses, focusing on the realms of ontology, axiology, and epistemology. The background of the study acknowledges the importance of philosophical inquiry at the master's level and its role in advancing language philosophy. The research objectives are to examine and to categorize the specific domains of the philosophy of language within selected theses, aiming to understand the scope and diversity of discussions in these areas. Employing content analysis and comparative analysis as research methods, the study comprehensively analyzes five master's theses from various disciplines. The technique for data analysis involves a detailed examination of the theses to identify the prevalence and treatment of the three philosophical domains. Research findings reveal a rich tapestry of perspectives on ontology, axiology, and epistemology, each thesis contributing uniquely to the field. The conclusion highlights the complexity and diverse nature of contemporary language philosophy. This study serves as evidence to the varied and intricate discussions shaping the philosophy of language today.
