Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the implementation of GASPOL (Fun Movement While Playing Sports) learning media innovation on students' learning motivation in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning on fundamental movement material. The study used a quantitative approach with a weak experimental design through a one-group pretest–posttest design model. The subjects were 31 second-grade elementary school students in Gresik Regency. The data collection instrument was a learning motivation questionnaire using a Likert scale that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics, normality tests, and paired sample t-tests. The results showed an increase in students' learning motivation after the implementation of GASPOL media, indicated by an increase in the average score from 69.64 in the pretest to 75.18 in the posttest, with a percentage increase of 7.96%. In addition, a decrease in the standard deviation value in the posttest indicates that students' learning motivation has become more evenly distributed. Thus, the GASPOL learning media has been proven effective in increasing students' learning motivation in PJOK learning on fundamental movement material and can be used as an alternative learning media that is innovative, active, and fun in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework in improving students' critical thinking skills, especially in Physical Education and Health. The UbD approach, which is oriented towards learning objectives and authentic assessment, is hypothesized to create a learning environment that encourages analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of ideas. A quasi-experiment was used with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study sample consisted of 32 students selected through the total sample method. A critical thinking ability questionnaire consisting of 17 validated statements was used to collect data. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a Paired Sample T-Test with SPSS. The average score increased from 68.16 in the pretest to 74.69 in the posttest. There was a significant difference between critical thinking skills before and after the intervention, according to the statistical test, which produced a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the understanding by design framework has a positive and significant effect on improving students' critical thinking skills. The results show that UbD can be used as a pedagogical strategy to enhance higher-order thinking skills in education.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of gross motor development as the foundation for physical activity in elementary school students, but it was suspected that there were differences in the quality of these abilities between public and private school students. The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in gross motor skills between third-grade students in public and private elementary schools in Bandung. The method used was descriptive comparative with a quantitative approach. The research sample consisted of 38 students selected purposively, divided into 19 students from public schools and 19 from private schools. Data collection used the Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD-2) test instrument, which measures locomotor and object control aspects. Data analysis was performed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, the independent sample t-test for normal data, and the Mann-Whitney test for non-normal data. The results showed that there was a significant difference in gross motor skills between the two groups. Private school students had better abilities in locomotor aspects (M=10.58 vs 8.68; p=0.006) and object control (p=0.018). The conclusion of the study indicates that PJOK learning factors, school environment, and availability of supporting facilities influence students' gross motor development.

Abstract

Basic motor skill instruction at the elementary school level plays a crucial role in establishing the foundation for movement skills, body coordination, and student self-confidence. However, a lack of instructional variety and the dominance of conventional, command-based teaching methods often limit students' exposure to diverse movement activities; consequently, many students struggle to master basic motor skills and movement coordination. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing a game-based motor learning model on improving hand-eye coordination and basic motor skills among elementary school students. This quantitative study employed a quasi-experimental approach using a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 50 students from SDN Kepanjen 1 Jombang, selected via total sampling and evenly divided into an experimental group (n=25), which received game-based instruction and a control group (n=25), which underwent conventional instruction. Data collection instruments included the wall toss test to measure hand-eye coordination and the Test of Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD-2) to assess basic motor skills. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, prerequisite tests (Shapiro-Wilk normality test and Levene’s homogeneity test), paired sample t-tests, and independent sample t-tests. The results showed that the experimental group’s mean score increased from 67.12 in the pretest to 83.84 in the posttest, while the control group’s score rose from 66.88 to 77.48. The paired sample t-test demonstrated a significant improvement in the experimental group (t = -13.116; p = 0.000 < 0.05). Furthermore, the independent sample t-test confirmed a significant difference in learning outcome improvements between the two groups (p = 0.000 < 0.05), with the experimental group recording a substantially greater increase in movement competence compared to the control group. In conclusion, the game-based motor learning model has proven to be significantly effective and can serve as an adaptive alternative approach for improving hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills among elementary school students.

Abstract

Abstract: Physical fitness among Indonesian junior high school students remains uneven, ranging from good to very poor categories across different schools and regions, including Surabaya, East Java. The Indonesian government addressed this issue by introducing the Tes Kebugaran Pelajar Nusantara (TKPN) as a standardized fitness assessment instrument, yet physical education teachers still face two major challenges: limited mastery of the new testing procedure and reliance on manual, error-prone score recording. This community service program trained and introduced the "JASBUG" mobile application, designed to automate TKPN data recording and score conversion, to 12 physical education teachers from junior high schools in Surabaya who are members of the East Java Provincial National Sports Teachers Association (IGORNAS). The program adopted a single-cycle participatory training approach, combining hands-on TKPN practice with direct simulation of the JASBUG application, evaluated through pre-test and post-test instruments. Results showed a statistically significant increase in teachers' knowledge of TKPN procedures (mean score from 8.25 to 9.50; p=0.004). Participants also rated the JASBUG application highly across usability, functionality, reliability, usefulness, and user satisfaction (4.42–4.69 out of 5). These findings indicate the training and application successfully addressed both the knowledge gap and the administrative burden previously reported by teachers.
