Abstract

Creative thinking is a vital ability that should be nurtured from the primary level, particularly through collaborative learning activities that engage students in mathematical problem posing. This study aims to investigate the patterns of creative thinking exhibited by primary school students working in homogeneous ability groups during collaborative problem-posing tasks. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through classroom observations, field notes, student-generated problem artifacts, and focus group discussions involving six fifth-grade student groups categorized as high-, medium-, and low-ability. The findings reveal distinct creative thinking patterns across ability groups shaped by internal group dynamics. High-ability groups demonstrated strong fluency in generating ideas but showed limited flexibility and novelty due to dominance by one or two members. Medium-ability groups exhibited more balanced participation, resulting in relatively stronger fluency and flexibility, though originality remained moderate. In contrast, low-ability groups displayed minimal indicators of creative thinking, characterized by passive participation and limited engagement. These results highlight a gap between students’ cognitive potential and their collaborative creative performance within homogeneous group settings. The study concludes that creative thinking in homogeneous ability groups is influenced not only by cognitive level but also by the quality of interaction and equitable participation, underscoring the crucial role of teacher facilitation in designing instructional supports that foster inclusive dialogue and creative collaboration.

Abstract

Controlling blood glucose is paramount in diabetes management, yet medication non-adherence often hinders optimal outcomes. This study investigated the impact of pharmacist counseling on Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) levels and medication adherence in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) patients within a rural primary healthcare setting. A quasi-experimental pre- and post-test design was employed with 112 T2DM outpatients from Puskemas Simpang Mamplam, Bireuen City, Aceh, Indonesia, from March to April 2024. Medication adherence was assessed using the MARS-10 Questionnaire, and FBG levels were measured via finger prick. The majority of participants were female (79.5%), aged 41-60 (45.5%, mean age 55.70 ± 10.07 years), with secondary education (43.8%), predominantly sedentary/inactive workers (60.7%), and reported low-income (38.4%). Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed rank Test. Following counseling, which was provided every two weeks over the two-months period, the mean medication adherence score significantly increased (p < 0.001) from 3.150 ± 0.942 to 8.790 ± 1.297. FBG levels also significantly decreased (p<0.05), from an initial mean of 308.98 ± 72.995 to 220.42 ± 68.547 at two weeks, 162.36 ± 50.191 at four weeks, and 130.00 ± 27.774 at six weeks. These findings suggest that pharmacist counseling significantly improves both medication adherence (p < 0.001) and glycemic control (FBG decrease, p < 0,05) in T2DM patients.

Abstract

This study aims to gain in-depth understanding of students' responses to the use of open-ended teaching materials integrated with local wisdom. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach, taking fourth-grade students of SDN Demangan 1 Bangkalan as subjects. Data were collected through student response questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing stages, with data validity checked through technical triangulation. The results showed that, in general, students gave a very positive response with an average response score of 3.44 to the use of teaching materials. Positive responses were seen in increased student interest in mathematics learning, particularly through the integration of local wisdom content, increased enthusiasm for learning, self-confidence, and student involvement in discussions. Further analysis showed variations in responses based on students' cognitive levels, but all students, whether at high, medium, or low cognitive levels, showed positive attitudes toward the use of teaching materials. Thus, open-ended teaching materials based on local wisdom have the potential to be a relevant alternative to support meaningful mathematics learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

This systematic literature review explored the integration of Realistic Mathematics Education and GeoGebra in elementary geometry education, critically examining 27 empirical studies published between 2020 and 2025. This study examines the effectiveness of the integration in promoting conceptual understanding, engagement, motivation, and cognitive development in geometry education using the guidelines presented by PRISMA. This systematic literature review is conducted by carefully selecting studies from prominent databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. From the analysis, it is evident that the integration of RME and GeoGebra is effective in promoting learning outcomes, with approximately 80% of studies showing enhanced results in geometry understanding and student motivation. Some of the findings include the fact that GeoGebra, being a visual tool, enhances the contextual approach presented by RME, making it a very effective tool in creating an effective learning environment that connects concrete experiences with abstract mathematical concepts. From this study, it is also evident that there are gaps in the studies, with most studies being conducted in secondary education, while few are conducted in elementary education. Under methodological limitations, there is a lack of separation of the effects of GeoGebra and no longitudinal studies that focus on the long-term effects. The review offers recommendations on the way forward in terms of research direction, such as the design of RME and GeoGebra integrated modules and teacher training, as well as the exploration of the effects on student engagement and communication skills. The synthesis is beneficial in the understanding of how technology can change the face of realistic mathematics education in the teaching and learning of elementary geometry.

Abstract

Numeracy is a fundamental skill that must be mastered by elementary school students as the basis for developing mathematical competencies at the next level. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of role-playing learning in improving the numeracy skills of elementary school students through a systematic literature review of 13 studies published in the 2020-2025 period. The research method uses a systematic literature review approach with content analysis techniques on articles obtained from the Consensus database, Google Scholar, and national and international journal repositories. The inclusion criteria include research that discusses the implementation of role playing in numeracy learning at the elementary school level with experimental, quasi-experimental, or classroom action research designs. The results of the analysis showed that role playing learning consistently improved students' numeracy skills with the percentage of learning completeness increasing from the range of 40-60% to 92-96% after implementation. Role-playing learning has been proven to be effective in improving understanding of decimal number concepts, counting operations, the ability to solve story problems, mathematical representations, and student motivation and participation in learning. The integration of role playing with other approaches such as Problem-Based Learning, Realistic Mathematics Education, and Teaching at the Right Level strengthens the effectiveness of learning. The limitations of the studies identified included limited topic coverage, research design without adequate control groups, and relatively short duration of interventions. This study recommends replicating studies with a stronger experimental design, more diverse material coverage, and longer implementation duration to measure the long-term impact of role-playing learning on elementary school students' numeracy skills.

Abstract

Early numeracy provides a foundation for later mathematical learning, yet early instruction often falls short of developmental expectations. This exploratory sequential mixed-methods study examined how pre-service early childhood teachers' belief orientations and pedagogical-mathematical knowledge jointly relate to instructional practice in early numeracy. In Phase I, six pre-service teachers were purposively selected and studied through interviews, lesson-plan analysis, and teaching observation. Cross-case thematic analysis identified three dominant belief orientations, namely instrumentalist, Platonist, and problem-solving, together with hybrid profiles that revealed uneven links between symbolic and contextual approaches. In Phase II, 182 pre-service teachers from three public universities in East Java completed an expert-reviewed and empirically screened 90-item questionnaire measuring belief orientation, pedagogical-mathematical knowledge, and self-reported instructional practice. The integrated regression model explained 73.4% of the variance in instructional practice (R2 = 0.734, p < .001). Both belief orientation (β = 0.328, p < .001) and pedagogical-mathematical knowledge (β = 0.568, p < .001) significantly predicted practice, with pedagogical-mathematical knowledge emerging as the stronger predictor. The integrated findings suggest that beliefs shape pedagogical direction, whereas pedagogical-mathematical knowledge determines how effectively that direction can be enacted. The study contributes to the literature by showing that the belief-practice relationship in early numeracy is best understood as an enactment issue: beliefs orient teaching, but knowledge enables meaningful classroom implementation. The findings imply that teacher education should move beyond efforts to reshape beliefs alone and invest more systematically in topic-specific pedagogical knowledge of number concepts, representations, misconceptions, and scaffolding
