Abstract

This study explores how the integration of Case-Based Learning (CBL) and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) enhances students’ analytical, linguistic, and reflective competencies in public policy analysis within the Public Administration Study Program at Cahaya Prima Bone University. Students' poor academic English proficiency in public administration and their incapacity to critically examine policies served as the driving forces behind the study. the objective of this research is to design, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of a Case-Based English Learning model tailored to public policy analysis. Utilizing a qualitative methodology with a descriptive design , the study involved first-semester Public Administration students at Universitas Cahaya Prima Bone, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were gathered through direct observation, in-depth interviews with students and lecturers, and document analysis. Analysis was conducted interactively using data reduction, data presentation, and inductive conclusion drawing. The results show that when Case-Based Learning (CBL) and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) are combined, students' critical thinking, academic literacy, and contextual understanding of public policy are all significantly enhanced, and their interpersonal and collaborative abilities are also fostered. Group case study and classroom discussions were identified as the most successful activities, encouraging participation and peer interaction. However, a number of issues surfaced, such as differences in English language ability and a lack of time for in-depth conversations on difficult subjects. Despite these drawbacks, lecturers and students concurred that the Case-Based Learning approach effectively links linguistic competency and analytical reasoning. In conclusion, Case-Based English Learning is a pedagogical innovation that supports the development of graduates in public administration who are globally competent by linking language learning with professional policy analytic skills. It is advised that future studies apply this paradigm to other non-linguistic fields in order to investigate its wider pedagogical and institutional implications.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria (LAB) starter for coffee fermentation by optimizing incubation time and coating formulation. The research was conducted in two stages: determining the optimal incubation time for the liquid coffee starter and formulating the dry starter coating material. The liquid starter was prepared using coffee skin powder, glucose, peptone, and minerals, and inoculated with Lactobacillus plantarum, Weissella sp., and Leuconostoc mesenteroides. Incubation was performed at room temperature for 24, 28, 32, and 36 h. The optimal incubation time was found to be 32 h, resulting in a LAB viability of 4.2x1013 CFU/mL and a total acid content of 1.76%. The dry starter was prepared by encapsulating the liquid starter with various coating materials (gelatin and gum arabic) at different concentrations (5, 6, and 7%) using the freeze-drying method. The formulation with 5% gum arabic best maintained cell viability at 46.77% over a 4-week storage period. Coffee fermentation using the dry starter showed improved organoleptic qualities, with the best results obtained after 48 h of fermentation. This study presents a sustainable approach to producing high-quality fermented coffee, such as Luwak coffee, without the use of animals.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe fishing gear innovations in Tondonggeu Village, Nambo Sub-district, Kendari City. The local fishing community faces various challenges such as declining cathes. Under these conditions, fishermen in Tondonggeu innovate fishing gear by modifying and developing traditional fishing gear to be more efficient, environmentally friendly, and in accordance with the characteristics of local waters. Some of the innovation include longline fishing rods, boats charts, and handline fishing rods. This study used a qualitative research method with an ethnographic approach. The technique of determining informants was done purposively. The data collection technique was carried out through involved observation (Particivation Observation), and in-depth interviews (In-depth Interview). The data collected was then analyzes using Everett M. Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation Theory (1964). The result showed that the fishing gear innovation was able to increase fishermen’s catch and income and provide alternative solution during extreme weather seasons. Factors driving innovation include experience, economic need, environmental conditions, and limited available fishing gear. On the other hand, limited capital and lack of access to training are challenges to the sustainability of this innovation. This research is expected to be reference in the development of local wisdom-based fisheries technology and support fishermen empowerment programs.

Abstract

The training process is sometimes boring for children, the lack of creativity and innovation from the coaches makes children stop training at any time, sometimes the goals and objectives of training have not been achieved children have stopped training because they feel bored. In an effort to eliminate boredom, warming up during the training process can be done through traditional games such as traditional games terompah panjang and gerobak sodor because in addition to being fun, the game also includes many elements of movement, such as running. In addition, traditional games are one of the cultural contents that need to be maintained so that they are not lost. Of course, it is a challenge for traditional games that prioritize the values of responsibility, teamwork, honesty, and even involve nature as their characteristics to remain present in every generation. Traditional games are also expected to be an alternative that can be used as a warm-up medium in a sport with the aim of the values contained in the game can be adopted and applied. In order to achieve this goal, the role of traditional games is very important. It is hoped that this community service activity will increase students' and athletes' insight into the role of traditional games as a warm-up medium for training.

Abstract

Deforestation is a threat to national security and a disaster caused by natural and human factors. Natural factors, namely the dry season resulting in forest fires and the human factor which takes over the function of forests to become plantations and illegal logging. This paper uses a literature study with the theory of policy governance. The research method is a qualitative descriptive method. The results of the study show that accountability in the management and protection of forests in Indonesia has not run optimally due to overlapping policies and legal certainty relating to forests or land use in Indonesia is still ambiguous so that law enforcement is weakened and there is a lack of of quality resources in enforcement. Weak participation can also be seen from the policies implemented by the Indonesian government that have not been able to involve the involvement of local communities to avoid or reduce the rate of deforestation that occurs. While in terms of transparency carried out by the Indonesian government, one of which is through the SLVT policy to realize transparent government administration in forest management, which has shown results, although improvement efforts are still being made so that transparency criteria can be met to the fullest.gb777

Abstract

This article analyzes the recurring flash floods in North Konawe Regency which occurred in 2000, 2013, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 as ecological disasters causally linked to three decades of natural resource exploitation through logging, oil palm plantations, and open-pit nickel mining. Using the dual framework of political ecology and environmental justice, this article argues that these disasters are not neutral natural events, but rather the product of a structured system of injustice: the indigenous Culambacu People and Tolaki People communities who were excluded from decision-making processes regarding extractive permits have borne the greatest burden of the destructive impacts of such exploitation. The most dramatic event was the 2019 flood that devastated Tapuwatu Village, causing losses amounting to Rp 674.8 billion and displacing 9,908 people. The findings demonstrate that the dominant government narrative framing the floods as “natural disasters caused by high rainfall” constitutes a strategic denial that obscures structural responsibility. Empirical data including rates of deforestation, exceeded river carrying capacity, and the chronology of concession expansion correlated with disaster escalation support the ecological disaster thesis. Persistent poverty amid abundant natural resource wealth confirms the condition of a “sacrifice zone,” characterized simultaneously by distributive, recognitional, and procedural injustices.
