Abstract

Purpose: Polyethersulfone (PES) membranes are widely used in filtration and gas separation due to their strong thermal, mechanical, and chemical stability. However, no comprehensive bibliometric mapping of PES membrane research has been conducted. This study aims to analyze publication trends, research quality, influential works, and thematic evolution in PES membrane literature from 2012 to 2022.Methodology: Bibliometric data were retrieved from Google Scholar using Publish or Perish with keywords related to Chemistry, Particle, PES, and Membrane, covering 1,000 articles (2012–2022). VOSviewer was used for analysis through network visualization (co-word clustering), overlay visualization (temporal trends), and density visualization (research intensity). A minimum co-occurrence threshold of five keywords produced 170 significant terms. Results: Publications increased from 55 in 2012 to 123 in 2020, averaging about 90 papers annually. Of 1,000 articles, 77.8% were published in Q1 journals, with Elsevier contributing 61.4%. Eight thematic clusters were identified, highlighting mixed matrix membranes and MOF-based membranes as dominant research directions. Conclusions: PES membrane research shows strong growth and high publication quality, evolving toward advanced mixed matrix and MOF/COF-based membrane technologies.Limitations: The dataset is limited to Google Scholar, partial 2022 coverage, and keyword constraints that may exclude relevant studies.Contributions: This study provides the first bibliometric baseline for PES membrane research, mapping trends, quality distribution, and thematic evolution to guide future research directions.

Abstract

Sustainable materials are essential in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in clean energy, water purification, waste reduction, and green infrastructure. This study investigates the role of material innovation in supporting the SDGs using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and bibliometric analysis (from Scopus database (2015–2025) using keywords “Sustainable Material,” “Green Material,” and “SDGs”). The findings showed a growing research trend, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, with significant contributions from chemistry, engineering, and environmental sciences. Materials like nanomaterials, biomaterials, biodegradable polymers, and waste-derived products contribute to SDG 6, 7, 9, 12, and 13. Innovations such as green nanotechnology, bio-based materials, and circular material design show strong potential to address global sustainability challenges. These materials not only support emission reduction and waste valorization but also encourage green job creation and sustainable production. This study highlights interdisciplinary pathways to align material science with sustainable development.

Abstract

Sustainability and green engineering are increasingly vital in mechanical engineering education as industries prioritize environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, and waste reduction. This study aims to review and synthesize current research trends, challenges, and implementation strategies concerning the integration of sustainability into mechanical engineering curricula. We used a systematic review approach using literature published between 2019 and 2024. Results indicate that although sustainability is recognized as important, its integration remains inconsistent due to curriculum gaps, limited hands-on experiences, weak industry collaboration, and insufficient faculty training. Proposed solutions include project-based learning, interdisciplinary courses, strengthened partnerships with industry, and the incorporation of green technologies such as carbon capture and circular economy practices. These strategies are essential because they bridge the gap between theory and real-world application. The findings highlight the need for standardized educational frameworks and enhanced collaboration. This review contributes to the development of curricula that prepare future engineers to address complex environmental challenges.

Abstract

Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy is widely used for materials characterization; however, spectrum interpretation often relies on isolated peak identification, which can lead to ambiguity, especially for complex materials. This study presents a master FTIR dataset combined with a step-by-step guided peak-correlation workflow to support systematic and reproducible FTIR interpretation. The dataset organizes FTIR information into five spectral regions and emphasizes correlated peak families rather than individual bands. Representative examples covering simple compounds, organic compounds, polymers, and halogenated materials demonstrate the applicability of the approach across materials science and chemical engineering fields. Beyond manual interpretation, the structured dataset and workflow are designed to be machine-readable and extensible, enabling future integration with data-driven methods such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for automated spectral analysis. This work provides a practical reference for FTIR interpretation, education, and the development of intelligent materials characterization systems.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of nanotechnology into chemical engineering education and its implications for future curriculum development. A bibliometric and technological review was conducted using publications from major scientific databases, with standardized datasets and mapped collaboration and keyword networks to identify pedagogical and curricular trends. The findings indicate a steady growth of interdisciplinary research linking nanoscale concepts with process engineering, accompanied by increasing adoption of virtual laboratories, computer simulations, and intelligent tutoring systems. Nevertheless, challenges remain, including uneven faculty preparedness, limited access to advanced instrumentation, and the lack of unified competency frameworks across institutions. These constraints are largely driven by macro-centric teaching traditions, resource limitations, and inconsistent curriculum standards. To address these gaps, the study proposes targeted updates to core and elective courses that emphasize nano-centric content, sustainability, and digital pedagogy. Overall, the paper presents a practical framework aligned with Safe-by-Design principles and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Abstract

This paper presents a practical guide for improving research quality in science and engineering education based on lessons learned from real manuscript revision processes. Although many researchers aim to conduct studies in this field, research quality is often weakened by misalignment between stated scope, scientific content, engineering processes, and methodological descriptions. This study analyzes several research manuscripts that underwent academic coaching and were successfully revised and published in reputable journals, completed with a bibliometric analysis. Research quality can be significantly improved without altering core research designs, but through clearer articulation of scientific concepts, explicit description of engineering or technological interventions, and stronger alignment between methodology and research objectives. This paper offers actionable and experience-based guidance for researchers seeking to produce more rigorous, coherent, and impactful studies in science and engineering education.

Abstract

The concepts of differential and integral are important topics in chemistry mathematics courses. Based on the number of subtopics, differential and integral concepts are covered on average more than 40% in chemistry mathematics books. Several previous studies reported findings that differential and integral concepts are still difficult for students to understand. This research aims to evaluate the previous lecture program and propose an alternative learning design to help students more easily understand those concepts. In this study, we developed a practicum by adopting Plomp’s model, which were collecting, designing, trying, and revising the product. The practicum design was developed for heating process of glucose solution. Those chemicals were chosen because the materials obtained are relatively easy, cheap, and safe, so it is very possible to practice it in the laboratory. We used Maple to model the heating process phenomenon. The results show that the differential and integral concepts can be applied to model the heating process of glucose solution by using Maple. This research is limited to simulations. Therefore, the suggestion for further research is to conduct field trials to determine the impact of implementing learning design in increasing students' understanding of differential and integral concepts.
