Abstract

Design thinking holds significant potential to drive innovation in science education, helping to address complex challenges and advance technological and industrial development. This study aims to analyze trends and research opportunities in design thinking within science education from 2018 to 2023 using a bibliometric approach. Data from 997 articles indexed in Google Scholar were collected through the Publish or Perish application and analyzed using VOSviewer. The results indicate a decline in the number of publications during the study period, although high research activity was recorded in 2018 and 2019. However, opportunities to integrate design thinking with interdisciplinary concepts, such as innovative teaching methods, remain significant. Therefore, the implementation of design thinking in science education can open avenues for broader innovation in teaching and learning. This study implies an enhancement of science education through the integration of design thinking, offering strategic directions for future research and practical applications in curriculum and pedagogy development.

Abstract

Pelatihan penulisan artikel ilmiah untuk publikasi di jurnal ilmiah bereputasi merupakan bagian dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang memiliki tujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis artikel bagi civitas akademik di lingkungan Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Sasaran kegiatan adalah civitas akademik di lingkungan Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia yang terdiri dari Dosen dan Mahasiswa sebanyak 40 orang. Pelaksanaan pelatihan dilaksanakan secara daring dengan beberapa tahapan. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pelatihan ini adalah ceramah, selain itu terdapat sesi tanya jawab serta diskusi, setelah pelaksanaan pelatihan peserta diberikan tugas dan pendampingan secara intensif untuk penulisan artikel ilmiah. Kegiatan pelatihan dilaksanakan secara bertahap, tahap awal yaitu tahap persiapan mulai dari observasi dan analisis kebutuhan, selanjutnya tim melakukan sosialisasi dalam rangka menjaring peserta pelatihan yaitu civitas akademik yang terdiri dari dosen dan mahasiswa. Tahap pelaksanaan dilakukan secara daring melalui zoom, mulai dari menyajikan materi yang berkaitan dengan penulisan artikel ilmiah, praktik langsung menulis artikel ilmiah, dan evaluasi di akhir kegiatan pelatihan. Pelatihan dilaksanakan secara terjadwal, dilaksanakan selama 6 bulan dengan jadwal setiap minggu dilaksanakan dua kali sesi pertemuan untuk melihat kemajuan dari penugasan yang diberikan. Hasil dari kegiatan pelatihan ini adalah terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan terhadap pemahaman dan keterampilan dalam menulis artikel ilmiah. Hal tersebut dapat dilihat di akhir kegiatan bahwa peserta pelatihan dapat menyusun artikel ilmiah sesuai dengan aturan dan kaidah. Selain itu peserta pelatihan dapat menggunakan template artikel sesuai dengan gaya selingkung jurnal yang akan dituju, dan yang paling utama peserta pelatihan dapat menghasilkan artikel ilmiah yang berkualitas yang siap untuk dipublikasikan di salah satu jurnal ilmiah sesuai dengan bidang keahlian penulis.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills (CTS) are among the 21st-century skills needed. Preservice physics teachers need CTS to solve problems critically, not only in academics but also in life. This research offers a comprehensive perspective and understanding of critical thinking skills as a framework for measuring the ability of preservice physics teachers. The approach is qualitative with methodology analysis, and the documentary content produces a theoretical competence framework. Findings are then applied to determine CTS indicators' relevant competencies, such as clarity assumption, interpretation, analysis, reason, and evaluation. Preservice physics teachers can understand and use these results to evaluate CTS. The research emphasizes optimizing CTS for preservice physics teachers because education is increasingly complex and dynamic.

Abstract

Di era digital, metode pembelajaran yang lama sering tidak lagi efektif dalam membuat siswa tertarik dan memahami pelajaran matematika. Karena itu, dibutuhkan cara baru yang lebih sesuai dengan perkembangan teknologi saat ini. Workshop ini diselenggarakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan guru dan mahasiswa dalam memahami dan mengajarkan matematika, dengan menggunakan gamifikasi yang didukung oleh aplikasi berbasis Role-Playing Game (RPG). Pendekatan ini bertujuan menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang lebih menarik, aktif, dan sesuai dengan kebutuhan zaman sekarang. Workshop dilaksanakan dalam tiga tahap, yaitu: (1) Perencanaan, di mana peserta dikenalkan pada konsep gamifikasi dan cara menerapkannya dalam pembelajaran matematika; (2) Pengembangan, yaitu pelatihan untuk membuat dan menggabungkan aplikasi RPG ke dalam materi ajar; dan (3) Evaluasi, dengan melihat tanggapan peserta terhadap pelatihan yang telah diberikan. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 10 guru dan 100 mahasiswa dari berbagai wilayah di Jawa, Sumatra, dan Riau. Hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan peserta, yaitu sebesar 100% untuk mahasiswa dan 66,7% untuk guru, berdasarkan hasil pretest dan posttest. Para peserta merasa pendekatan ini membantu membuat siswa lebih aktif, tidak cepat bosan, dan lebih mudah memahami konsep matematika yang sulit. Selain itu, para guru juga mendapatkan keterampilan baru dalam menggunakan teknologi untuk mendukung proses mengajar.

Abstract

This study uses the Taguchi method to optimize the quality factor (Q-factor) of microring resonators (MRRs) for sensor applications. The MRRs are compact optical components widely used in biosensors and environmental monitoring due to their sensitivity to refractive index changes. The Q-factor, a key performance metric for MRRs, is significantly influenced by structural parameters such as ring radius (R), gap (g), waveguide width (W), and waveguide height (h). We employed a finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulation to model light propagation within the MRR and compute the corresponding Q-factor to identify the optimal combination of these parameters. An L9 orthogonal array (OA) is used in the Taguchi method to analyze each factor's influence with three levels systematically. The optimization resulted in a Q-factor of 6208.44, significantly higher than the baseline value, indicating a substantial improvement. Compared to previous works, this research highlights the advantages of combining FDTD-based electromagnetic modeling with statistical optimization, offering a structured yet efficient approach to MRR design. The proposed method enhances Q-factor performance and provides scalability for practical applications in biomedical and environmental sensing. These findings underscore the utility of Taguchi-based design in advancing the field of photonic sensor optimization.

Abstract

Abstrak Diantara siswa sekolah menengah terdapat kesenjangan gender untuk bidang matematika, sains, dan keterampilan dasar (Corbett, Hill, & Rose, 2008). Terdapat asumsi dan anggapan awam di masyarakat secara umum bahwa pelajaran fisika merupakan pelajaran yang memiliki karakteristik kelelakian sehingga kurang cocok dipelajari oleh kaum perempuan, Generate merupakan strategi dan metode pembelajaran yang dapat menghilangkan asumsi dan anggapan tersebut, dalam bentuk apersepsi pembelajaran melalui pemberian contohcontoh kaum perempuan yang sukses dalam bidang fisika, dan sesuai dengan karakteristik siswa perempuan agar dapat menumbuhkan minat dan motivasi siswa perempuan terhadap fisika. Melalui apersepsi Generate diharapkan terjadi peningkatan pemahaman konsep fisika pada siswa perempuan secara khusus dan seluruh siswa secara umum. Kata kunci: minat, generate, gender Abstract Between students of high school are gender gap in mathematics, science, and basic skills (Corbett, Hill, & Rose, 2008). There is any lay in the general public assumption and presumption that physics is a subject that has characteristics making it less suitable maleness studied by women. “Generate” a strategy and learning methods that can eliminate assumptions, in the form of apperception learning by providing examples of the successful women in the fields of physics, and in accordance with the characteristics of female students in order to improve of interest and motivation of them to physics. Abstract

Algebra is a fundamental component of mathematics education that supports students’ success in higher-level mathematical learning. However, many students struggle to understand algebraic concepts due to their abstract nature and the limited use of effective instructional strategies. This scoping review aims to (1) identify how algebra teaching activities are represented in the literature, (2) explore the main instructional themes and approaches discussed, and (3) examine existing research gaps that require further study. A total of 143 studies published between 2015 and 2025 were retrieved from the Scopus database, and after a rigorous screening process, six studies met the inclusion criteria for full analysis. The review identified five dominant instructional themes: contextual problem-based learning, visual and concrete representations, technology-enhanced and game-based learning, collaborative discussions, and reflective reasoning. These approaches were found to enhance students’ engagement, conceptual understanding, and algebraic reasoning. Nevertheless, significant gaps remain in early algebra instruction, teacher professional development, and the integration of emerging technologies in classroom practice. The findings underscore the need for innovative, inclusive, and technology-integrated teaching strategies to strengthen students’ algebraic thinking and improve the quality of mathematics education.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji penerapan pendidikan matematika realistis (RME) dalam meningkatkan keterampilan literasi matematika dan mengidentifikasi kesenjangan serta rekomendasi untuk penelitian lebih lanjut dalam meningkatkan keterampilan literasi matematika. Melalui metode tinjauan pustaka sistematis, penelitian ini mengkaji 18 artikel relevan dari Scopus yang diambil dalam periode 2018-2023 menggunakan aplikasi Publish or Perish. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan kerangka kerja PIECES (Planning, Identifying, Evaluating, Collecting/Elaborating, Explaining, dan Summarizing). Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa RME dapat secara signifikan meningkatkan literasi matematika siswa dengan mendorong keterlibatan aktif, pemahaman yang mendalam, dan transferabilitas pengetahuan dalam berbagai konteks. Selain itu, penelitian ini menyoroti kesenjangan penelitian dan menawarkan wawasan untuk penelitian di masa mendatang. Temuan-temuan ini memberikan kontribusi penting bagi pengembangan metode pembelajaran matematika berbasis literasi di berbagai tingkat pendidikan.This research aims to examine the application of realistic mathematics education (RME) in improving mathematical literacy skills and identify gaps and recommendations for further research in improving mathematical literacy skills. Through a systematic literature review method, this research examines 18 relevant articles from Scopus taken in the 2018-2023 period using the Publish or Perish application. Data analysis in this research was carried out using the PIECES framework (Planning, Identifying, Evaluating, Collecting/Elaborating, Explaining, and Summarizing). The analysis results show that RME can significantly improve students' mathematical literacy by encouraging active engagement, deep understanding, and transferability of knowledge in various contexts. Additionally, this study highlights research gaps and offers insights for future research. These findings provide an important contribution to the development of literacy-based mathematics learning methods at various levels of education.

Abstract

This study aims to develop Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media in geometry courses to enhance students' conceptual understanding and learning interest. This research uses a Research and Development (R&D) methodology with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) for media development procedures. The subjects of the study involved students from the Mathematics Education program at a university in Indonesia. Data were collected through validation sheets and effectiveness tests, with validity and reliability tested using paired sample t-tests. The results showed that the AR-based learning media developed received an excellent validation score (4.2/5) from experts and demonstrated significant effectiveness in improving conceptual understanding of geometry (t = 15.23, p < 0.05) as well as students' learning interest (t = 12.76, p < 0.05). The use of AR in geometry learning was found to increase student engagement and make abstract concepts easier to understand. These findings are consistent with previous studies showing that AR can enhance the quality of learning, particularly in complex subjects such as geometry. This study provides empirical evidence regarding the potential of AR in higher education and suggests broader implementation across various disciplines to improve students' understanding and motivation.

Abstract

Learning media in schools has provided added value in the teaching and learning process. Science textbooks are not enough to achieve ideal learning. One of them is to use comics which can be said to be a pretty good visual medium. The purpose of this research is to produce an edutainment-based comic learning media that can improve students' environmental literacy and technological literacy. This study uses a research and development model (ADDIE). Researchers used data collection techniques by means of observation, interviews, documentation, questionnaires and tests. The data is processed so that it can improve students' environmental literacy and technological literacy on environmental pollution materials. The subjects in this study were seventh grade students of the Bandung National Junior High School. The instrument used for data collection in this study was a test of environmental literacy and technological literacy. The data analysis technique used mixed type qualitative methods and at the time of product field testing with quantitative methods.
