Abstract

The concept of wahdah al-wujud Ibn Arabi (1165-1240 AD) and the concept of Al-Hikmah Al-Muta'aliyah Mulla Sadra (1571-1640 AD) are the most important contributing concepts in metaphysical thought in Islam. Hence, it is also important to understand these two concepts to study both the concept of essence and existence as a basis for understanding. The purpose of this study has objectives, namely (1) to know the concept of essence and existence from the perspective of Ibn Arabi. (2) to know the concept of essence and existence of Mulla Sadra's perspective. (3) to know the meeting point and the point of difference in the concept of essence and existence of both. The method used to explore this literature study by examining the work of the two figures, namely Ibn Arabi's work entitled “Futûhât al-Makkiyah” with Mulla Sadra's work entitled “Al-Asfar al-Arbaà” as a primary source and several related articles relevant to the topic discussed with qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of this study are three, namely (1) according to Ibn Arabi (1165-1240 AD), existence is the form of essence, so that existence precedes essence. So, if something has existence then something has essence. But the opposite also applies. (2) According to Mulla Sadra, essence is the overall picture of reality or objects that exist in the mind; and existence is the objective reality outside the mind. (3) The concepts of essence and existence according to Ibn Arabi and Mulla Sadra have common ground in defining the concepts of essence and existence and also in comparing the concepts of essence and existence.

Abstract

Faith has only been interpreted theologically, namely belief in God. Even though only believing in the oneness of the substance, nature, and deeds of God without saying it verbally and without practicing deeds cannot be said to be a person with perfect faith. The research method used is qualitative with literature study techniques by collecting scientifically designed references and references that align with the research objectives. The data analysis used in this research is content analysis. The results of this study are as follows: 1) The substitution of the word faith is repeated in the Qur'an so that it can be understood that faith is essential in human life, as well as being the primary key in shaping one's Islam and personality. 2) Mental health is part of the psychology of religion, so the role of religion is according to that embraced by Muslims; namely, Islam can help humans achieve a mentally healthy condition by treating the soul and preventing mental disorders. Several ways to achieve a healthy personality, namely prayer, dhikr, reading the Koran, fasting, and pilgrimage. 3) The believer will be free from fear, panic, and complaints and adorned with patience and truth. Abstract

Islamic philosophy, Sufism, Islamic jurisprudence, and Javanese traditions offer diverse and sometimes conflicting perspectives on the status and role of women. While some schools of thought position women as subordinate to men, others advocate for gender equality and even recognize female leadership over men. This study aims to analyze and compare these varied viewpoints through a qualitative literature review, drawing primarily from foundational texts and primary sources. The findings reveal that Islamic philosophy, as represented by al-Fârâbî (870–950), and Sufism, particularly in the works of Ibn Arabi (1165–1240), uphold a vision of gender equality, emphasizing the shared spiritual and intellectual capacities of women and men. In contrast, classical Islamic jurisprudence tends to place women in a subordinate position, often restricting their roles in public and legal spheres. The Javanese tradition presents a dualistic stance: while it recognizes women as integral to male identity and capable of leadership, it simultaneously perpetuates notions of women as possessions or appendages to men. This ambivalence reflects the syncretic nature of Javanese culture, shaped by both indigenous and Islamic influences. Given the persistent gender disparities in contemporary Muslim societies, this study argues for a greater dissemination and integration of the more egalitarian views found in Islamic philosophy and Sufism. Such perspectives offer theological and cultural resources for advancing a more balanced and respectful relationship between men and women. Ultimately, the study contributes to broader debates on gender, religion, and tradition in the Muslim world, advocating for a reevaluation of normative frameworks surrounding women.

Abstract

For a servant, taking the mystical way to get closer to Allah is necessary to achieve perfection in this world and the hereafter. This study aims to reveal the mystical ways towards Allah from the perspective of Kyai Sholeh Darat, especially as elaborated in his book Minhāj al-Atqiyā' ilā Ma’rifati Hidāyat al-Adhkiyā' ilā Ṭarīqat al-Auliyā'. This study is qualitative-based research with a descriptive approach. The data were collected from library research. The data were then analysed using the Mile and Huberman analysis. The findings of this study reveal that 1) Kyai Sholeh Darat's book uses references from the Quran, hadith, and the trusted religious texts written by the taṣawwuf scholars; 2) the mystical way or sulūk that a spiritual traveller (sālik) undergoes to get ma'rifatullāh must go through sharī'a, ṭarīqa and ḥaqīqa; and 3) the methods used by Kyai Sholeh Darat in his book are bayānī and irfānī. Contribution: This study affirms that suluk to Allah must go through three paths, namely sharī'a, ṭarīqa and ḥaqīqa. Those three paths cannot be split from one another as there have been movements in which these three aspects are considered separated. For example, to pursue ḥaqīqa, the one only needs ṭarīqa without sharī'a, etc.

Abstract

The development of Islamic philosophy is often claimed as a golden bridge by some orientalists, as a result of which many assumptions conclude that Islam has no philosophy and is even considered irrational. However, Islamic philosophy has its own originality and has undergone a long development and experienced the ups and downs of debates between groups. Therefore, this research aims to: (1) trace the main factors in the development of Islamic philosophy; (2) explore the development, differences, and changes in Islamic philosophical thought; (3) examine the shift in Islamic philosophical thought. The method applied is a qualitative method, with a literature-based data collection method, and analysed by content analysis or context. The results showed that; (1) the main factor that became the initial foundation and even provided ammunition for the development of Islamic philosophy was the process of translating Greek monumental works starting from the Umayyad caliphate, especially during the time of Abdul Malik (685-705) to the Abbasid caliphate which reached its heyday during the time of al-Makmun (813-833); (2) the development of Islamic philosophical thought was supported by a number of figures who had integrated philosophy with religion, such as al-Kindi (806-875), al-Farabi (872-951), Ibn Sina (980-1037), and Ibn Rushd (1126-1198); (3) On the other hand, Islamic philosophical thought also experienced rejection and criticism by a number of fiqh scholars, such as Ahmad Ibn Hanbal (806-875), al-Ghazali (1058-1111), and Ibn Taymiyyah (1263-1328).

Abstract

Postmodernism is a critique of modern society and its failure to fulfill its promises. Marriage in the view of modernism is considered to still have shortcomings that must be corrected, the view of postmodernism is generally known as the antithesis of modernism. This research aims to find out the application of the concept of marriage in the view of postmodernism. This research is a type of library research. The main source used in this research is the book Postmodernism by Akhyar Yusuf Lubis. The results obtained show that the source of postmodernism is relativism, the method used is deconstructive and anti-objective interpretation, its validity is the rejection of a single narrative, recognition of the role of power in the formation of knowledge, or understanding that meaning is contextual and can change over time. Deconstruction in the context of postmodernism refers to an analytical approach to texts and concepts that aims to discover and expose their contradictions, uncertainties and ambiguities. Marriage before the era of postmodernism was characterized by strong social structures, strong norms, and a traditional understanding of the institution of marriage. Marriage in the era of postmodernism includes: strong individualism, a break from traditional norms, a plurality of values, the importance of communication, flexibility in roles, the importance of consent and agreement.
