Abstract

Cricket is commonly use as feedstuf for fishes and birds. However, most of market demand for this insect fulfilled by natural harvest. Since they could be an alternative nonconventional protein source for livestock industry, it is needed to develop methods for high cricket biomass production such as find their suitable food plants. During this research, Ciriling cricket (Grillus mitratus Burm.) was fed with various plants and mated with different sex ratio. Pakchoi (Brassica sinensis L.), papaya (Carica papaya L.), and carrot (Daucus carota L.) was combined with common commercial fed of cricket. Changes in food consumption, nymph mortality, body size, egg production, and egg hatching rates were measured in order to find best fed combination and sex ratio. The result showed that combination of standard fed with pakchoi preferred by cricket and produced best growth, highest egg production and egg hatching rates while ratio sex of  1:3 (male:female) produced highest number of eggs and best egg hatching rates.

Abstract

Ice cream is a milk-processed-based product that provides enough nutrients. The ice cream making process requires a stabilizer. The stabilizer used in this study was gelatin. This research used mackerel fish bones as the basic material for the gelatin, where the protein content is high enough to be made as gelatin. The purpose of this research was to determine the right amount of mackerel to make ice cream with good characteristics. The descriptive experimental method with an advanced regression analysis method was used to analyze the results of ice cream physical characteristics, while randomized block design (RBD) and descriptive method were used on the organoleptic results of the ice cream. The experiment consisted of four repetition sessions with different gelatin concentrations of 0%, 0.1%, 0.3%, and 0.5%, each treatment was repeated three times. The results showed additions of gelatin concentration on ice cream making had a very strong relationship with the characteristics of the ice cream namely overrun value, melting power, and viscosity with a correlation coefficient of 0.94, 0.911, and 0.995 respectively. While in terms of organoleptic, the higher the concentration gelatin, the softness of ice cream is higher, therefore more panelists preferred it.

Abstract

Indonesia has various tribes or ethnicities scattered in various islands. These tribes have a wealth of knowledge, and local wisdom as a hereditary tradition that are useful for the modern society because of their closeness to nature, for example the tradition of managing plants traditionally. Jengkol (Pithecellobium jiringa (Jack) Prain.) is widely known by the Indonesian community, easily found in forests so that a few people cultivate the plant. Cimanggu Village is an area where people still have knowledge from generation to generation in terms of managing jengkol. This study aimed to document the ethnobotany of jengkol as a food plant. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method using interview with 30 respondents obtained by snowball sampling technique. The results showed that only 10% of respondents still remembered the processing of Jengkol. The abundance of Jengkol in Cimanggu Village has decreased due to a low interest in the cultivation of Jengkol. There are three types of jengkol, i.e. Jengkol Ngora, Jengkol Kolot, and Sepi, that are known within the community, each Jengkol has different characteristics, processing methods, and uses.

Abstract

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic that has been attacked almost all countries in the world since 2020 has changed the lifestyle and habits of peoples globally. Since this outbreak until now, peoples in all countries including in Indonesia must implement the health protocols to reduce the rate of virus transmission. One of them is by maintaining hand hygiene by washing hands using soap or hand sanitizer (HS).  HS is used as an alternative in conditions which is difficult to washing hand. But, rural communities, especially in Tangguh Village in Kampung Pasir Honje, Sukawening, Ciwidey, Bandung Regency, are currently unable to use it due to limited access and economy. Training of making HS for the community can be a solution in overcoming this problem. Thie aims of this activity to provide skills to the people of Tangguh Village to make hand sanitizers made from alcohol and non alcohol. Method: conducted by lectures and do questions and answers about HS and then direct practice of making HS. Result: All participants can make hand sanitizers well. There are 2 types of HS that have been successfully made by the community, namely HS containing alcohol and HS free of alcohol. The alcohol content in the first type is around 60-70%, while the alcohol-free HS is made from betel leaf extract because it contains antibacterial compounds. The results of the evaluation show that 50% of the participants stated that they were very satisfied with the implementation of this activity and about 92% stated that this activity was very beneficial for them.
