Abstract

Modification of floating net cages (FNC) to multi-level floating net cages (MFNC) is one of the integrated cultivation options which is believed to be able to increase production capacity without increasing the horizontal area of the cultivation area. Therefore, research was conducted with the aim of comparing the growth performance, survival and physiological behavior of lobsters cultivated in FNC and MFNC. The research method used was a field experiment with comparative analysis between lobster cultivation using the MFNC and FNC systems where each treatment was repeated 3 times. The parameters observed were growth performance, survival and physiological behavior of lobsters, growth and survival of    snubnose pompano and abalone as well as water quality. Data analysis was carried out using the paired sample t test.  The results of the research showed that there were no significant differences in the growth performance, survival and physiological behavior of lobsters reared using multi-level floating net cages and floating net cages (p > 0.05). Thus, the application of the multi-level floating net cage system in lobster cultivation is efficient in optimal use of space. Apart from that, the water quality of Ekas Bay is classified as suitable as a cultivation area for lobster, snubnose pompano and abalone, where cultivation activities using a multi-level net cage system do not have an impact on water quality, especially the parameters of temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and salinity.

Abstract

Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is a high-value aquaculture commodity with steadily increasing market demand. However, the growth performance of Nile tilapia fingerlings is often hindered by suboptimal feed quality and high mortality rates. One innovative approach to address these challenges is the incorporation of herbal probiotics as feed additives. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of herbal probiotic supplementation (Probal) on the growth, feed efficiency, and survival of Nile tilapia fingerlings. The research was conducted over 28 days at the Laboratory of Fish Production and Reproduction, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Mataram, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications: P1 (control), P2 (Probal 2.5%), P3 (Probal 3%), and P4 (Probal 3.5%). The observed parameters included absolute length and weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), feed utilization efficiency (EPP), feed consumption, survival rate (SR), and water quality. Results showed that P4 treatment significantly outperformed other treatments in terms of length gain (2.39 cm), weight gain (13.8 g), SGR (3.26%/day), and SR (93.33%). Although no significant differences were observed in FCR and FUE, Probal supplementation was proven to enhance growth performance and survival. Therefore, herbal probiotic supplementation represents a promising and environmentally friendly strategy for sustainably improving Nile tilapia aquaculture productivity.

Abstract

Fish cultivation using the Floating Net Cultivation (FNC) system had the potential to create nutrient enrichment around the cultivation location. The large amount of nutrient input in marine waters can cause algae blooms also known as eutrophication. If this condition continues to occur, biota diversity will decrease and cause the seas to lose their function, so before that happens, it is considered to periodically monitor the pollution index in the Ekas Bay FNC area. The aim of this study is to analyze the pollution index in FNC area in the waters of Ekas Buana Village. The value obtained can be used as a basis for managing the area to create sustainable and sustainable use. The research was conducted in Ekas Bay, Ekas Buana village, East Lombok district on June-September 2023. The parameters observed were physical and chemical water quality parameters. The data that has been collected will be analyzed descriptively and presented in the form of tables and graphs. The parameter value obtained was the only one that passed the quality standard based on PP No. 22 of 2021, namely orthophosphate. Phosphate is indeed abundant in marine waters, but it will cause blooming if the total supply of ammonia nitrogen is excessive. From the pollution index, it was found that the East station, which is the coastal littoral area, is classified as moderately polluted, while the other stations are classified as lightly polluted. The sources and quantities of the pollution need to be identified to facilitate control and prevent further pollution.

Abstract

Stunting in children under five years old is the most common nutritional problem in Indonesia, namely around 30.8%. Stunting is characterized by a body height that is shorter than the average height of children in the same age. The high number cases of stunted toddlers has become a concern for the Government, where various efforts have been made to reduce the stunting rate, one of which is through socialization. Based on the results of location survey, Awang Preparation Village, in Central Lombok Regency has never received stunting socialization, so there are still many people who don't know about stunting and the benefits of fish nutrition to prevent stunting itself. The method for this activity is socialization which consists of 2 stages, namely 1) preparation which includes material preparation and timing, and 2) implementation, namely the ongoing socialization activity. This activity was attended by a total of 29 participants from among women consisting of housewives and teenagers. The results obtained after the socialization activities were that participants had a better understanding of what stunting is and how to prevent it. Apart from that, participants also know what the nutritional content of fish is so that it can be a solution to prevent stunting. Increasing maternal knowledge and awareness of the dangers of stunting can be an early indicator of a decline in stunting cases.
