Abstract

Mobile health education applications for parents are emerging as powerful tools to support self-directed learning and improve skills such as infant massage for better child health outcomes. The usability and availability of a smartphone app in Indonesia for improving body weight among children with low birth weights are being under-investigated due to the growing interest in self-directed learning of mobile application tools. This research aimed to document a mobile application's development and usability testing stages on self-directed learning of massage therapy. The methodology, developed using a server–client architecture with the HyperText Transfer Protocol and Web API, was evaluated during the prototype phase using the Think-Aloud method and the Smartphone Usability Questionnaire. The result showed that the agreement of the content reported 95%, indicating good validity. Thirteen out of the fifteen participants used the notification page to limit their time on social media. The mean IMI score was 4.34 (SD=0.45) out of 7. The App had a SUS score of 68.16 (SD = 9.34). The participants gave the app an average of 18.45 (SD = 1.76). The test revealed that the app prototype was designed with the end user in mind, ensuring high usability. The app provides health education and serves as a foundation for future mobile applications for parents to prevent low-birth weight.

Abstract

Madura Batik has distinct characteristics in each of its regencies, differing in patterns, colors, and motifs. Therefore, this research employs digital image processing to identify the unique motifs of Madura Batik. The Canny edge detection method is implemented to recognize batik motifs by detecting edges in batik images. The color spaces used are RGB, HSV, and Lab, while the threshold values applied in the Canny operation are (500,500), (300,500), and (100,500). Based on several experiments conducted, the Lab color space with a threshold of (500,500) yields the best edge detection quality.

Abstract

The return of menstruation after childbirth is an important aspect of women's reproductive health, especially in the context of contraceptive use. This study aims to explore how the return of menstruation after childbirth is closely connected to contraceptive use, with various factors such as age, marital status, region, place of residence, education level, ethnicity, and wealth index in Kyrgyzstan playing a role.  This study employed secondary data from the Kyrgyzstan 2023 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS), focusing on women of reproductive age (15-49 years). The analysis utilized a final sample of 1.059 women and applied binary logistic regression to examine the relationship between contraceptive use and the return of menstruation after childbirth while controlling for factors such as age, marital status, region, education level, ethnicity, and wealth index. The study found that among 1.059 women who had given birth, 30.88% were using contraceptive methods, and 64.68% experienced the return of menstruation post-childbirth. The multivariate analysis indicates that menstrual return after giving birth, having marital status formerly married/in union, in Naryn, Talas, and Chui region, and having the richest wealth index significantly influence contraceptive use among women of reproductive age. These results underscore the importance of comprehensive sexual health education, improved healthcare services, and targeted communication strategies to increase contraceptive use in the region.

Abstract

Many factors contribute to the declining total fertility rate, including family planning programs. The successful implementation of the family planning method might be influenced by how the decision to choose a contraceptive method was made. This study aimed to examine the correlation between family planning decision-makers and modern contraceptive use among married/in-union women of reproductive age in Uzbekistan. The 2021-2022 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey was used by selecting only married/in-union women of reproductive age of 15 to 49 years, totaling 2,794 eligible samples. The modern family planning use variables were divided into not using, using Long-Acting Contraceptives (LAC), and Short-Acting Contraceptives (SAC). The univariate, bivariate (Chi-square and ANOVA), and multinomial logistic regression were performed. Family planning decision-makers from both women and husbands/partners, healthworkers, or others were significantly associated with modern contraceptive use for SAC and LAC, respectively. The type of family planning methods was significantly influenced by decision makers. Spouses, family members, and health workers need to implicate women to decide the most applicable contraceptive method.

Abstract

The prevalence of caesarean section in Thailand is increasing every year along with the growing capability of women to work. This study examined the correlation between wealth index and caesarean section decision (decided in advance or after labour). This study used secondary data from the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) Thailand in 2022. The sample consisted of women who had at least one child. The dependent variable is the caesarean section decision, and the main independent variable is the wealth index. The data was analyzed for univariate, bivariate (t-test and Chi-square), and multivariate (binary logistic regression). The findings revealed that around 70% of women decided to deliver by caesarean section in advance (not after labour). The multivariate analysis found the richest women were 2.88 times more likely to decide to deliver by caesarean section in advance compared to lower wealth index quantiles. This study contributed to the current phenomenon that the richest women tend to deliver by caesarean section as an elevated social status compared to vaginal birth.

Abstract

The role of partner and family in breastfeeding practice is still rare. Previous studies were more likely to discuss the impact of infant and mother factors. This study aimed to examine the role of partner and family factors associated with breastfeeding factors. This systematic review includes 18 journal articles from four databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, SCOPUS, and Scholar Google. The selection of journal articles was described in the PRISMA diagram. The findings revealed that the factors from partners including education, support, knowledge about breastmilk, age, and occupation, and factors from family and household including food security, family support, family intention, and type of family play a role in influencing the breastfeeding practice. Since this study only focused on partner and household factors, the findings emphasize the significant role of partner and family in improving the breastfeeding practice. The government and related stakeholders can take an important role in contributing to increasing the participation of partners or husbands in breastfeeding practices such give parental leave to support the wife during exclusive breastfeeding.
