Abstract

The study of psychological well-being has received increasing attention in the last decade, especially integrated into the field of positive psychology. One of the difficulties in grasping a deep understanding of the concept of psychological well-being is due to the wide variety of concepts used interchangeably in the literature. Ryff (1989), undertook the difficult task of distilling the theories of the original psychological well-being model. Ryff's model integrates the theoretical components of Abraham Maslow's concept of self-actualisation, Rogers' view of the fully functioning person, Allport's individual formulation of the concept of maturity, Erikson's psychosocial stages model, Buhler's basic life tendencies, Neugarten's personality change, Jahoda's positive criteria of mental health. Ryff's theory includes six basic dimensions of psychological well-being, namely 1) Autonomy, 2) Environmental control, 3) Personal growth, 4) Positive relationships with others, 5) Life purpose, 6) Self-acceptance. The procedure used for the systematic review in this study was designed based on the PRISMA (Protocol Review Systematic and Meta-Analysis) statement. This article suggests that future researchers in an effort to conduct construct testing on Ryff's psychological well-being scale, it is recommended to test the validity of content, convergent, and criteria.

Abstract

Adolescence is a phase marked by stress, emotional instability, and low self-esteem, often leading to self-criticism and social withdrawal. To cope with these challenges, adolescents need self-compassion to maintain self-kindness and achieve better psychological well-being. This study aims to measure adolescent self-compassion using the Self-Compassion Scale for Youth (SCSY), a 17-item scale developed to suit the competencies of adolescents, as the original Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) is less applicable for this age group. A quantitative survey design was employed, with data from 105 high school students (aged 16-17, predominantly Sundanese, residing in rural areas) analyzed using JASP and Winstep for Rasch Model measurement. Results indicated that the SCSY demonstrated acceptable validity and reliability, confirming its suitability for adolescent self-compassion measurement. Findings underscore the importance of self-compassion in fostering emotional stability and resilience, suggesting that school-based guidance and counseling could benefit from incorporating self-compassion training to enhance mental health support for adolescents. The SCSY's tailored approach facilitates early detection of self-compassion levels, enabling counselors to provide targeted interventions that align with adolescents' developmental needs.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to get an overview of the meaning of life for orphanage adolescents in Indonesia. There have been several studies on the meaning of life conducted in any country, including Indonesia, but the use of religious counseling for teenagers, particularly those living in orphanages, is still limited. The tools used to measure the meaning of life are three values: creative values, experience values, and attitude values, which are translated into 30 items. This study uses a descriptive quantitative method, which is a method that describes the level of meaning in the lives of orphanage adolescents based on numerical data analysis. The results of the study showed that the 35 adolescents from the orphanage had general descriptions of: 1) a very high level of meaning in life that does not exist; 2) one of a high level (3%); 3). Seven of a moderate level (20%); 4). Eleven of a low level (31%); and 5). sixteen of a very low level (46%). These results indicate the importance of developing the meaning of life for orphanage youth through various efforts and interventions, especially in Indonesia. Keywords: Youth, Meaning of Life, Islamic Counseling.

Abstract

Strength-based counseling are grounded in the principles of positive psychology, emphasizing the recognition and development of individual strengths to enhance personal and interpersonal achievement. This approach fosters self-awareness and better relationships by encouraging individuals to recognize their strengths and those of others. Research indicates that a strengths-based approach can lead to a 50% increase in social relationships. The theory encompasses ten key propositions, including the ability to adapt and self-improve, the relationship between strengths and basic psychological needs, and the capacity for ongoing strength development influenced by various factors. Additionally, it highlights the variability of strength levels based on environmental context, the dialectical nature of strengths arising from challenges, and the importance of encouragement and effort recognition in motivating change. Ultimately, this model reinforces the significance of hope as a catalyst for transforming dysfunctional behaviors, fostering resilience, and promoting social competence.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Grief due to the loss of a loved one is a normal reaction that can be experienced by teenagers, but if it interferes with daily life and lasts for a long time, this condition can develop into a prolonged grief disorder. The PG-13-R instrument was introduced by Holly Prigerson, designed to measure prolonged grief disorder. Research is needed to confirm the psychometric performance of the PG-13-R in samples with broader ethnicities. This research involved 242 students at SMKN 1 Tasikmalaya, Indonesia using a descriptive quantitative approach. This research aims to measure and describe the characteristics of the validity and reliability of the Indonesian version of the PG-13-R instrument for adolescents who have experienced loss. The results of the validity and reliability test show that the Indonesian version of the PG-13-R instrument has a good level of validity and reliability, with all items declared valid and a high reliability value (Cronbach's alpha = 0.888). Thus, the adapted PG-13-R instrument can be indicated as a valid and reliable measuring tool for identifying prolonged grief disorders in adolescents in Indonesia.
