Abstract

This study examines the influence of Nahwu (syntax) and Shorof (morphology) on Qur’anic interpretation skills among participants of the Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) in Arabic tafsir category. Using a descriptive qualitative design, the research was conducted at the East Java LPTQ for one semester (four months) and involved three informants (two participants and one coach) through in-depth interviews. Data were analyzed thematically using coding and category consolidation. The findings identify a three-fold thematic model in which grammatical mastery enhances interpretive performance through (1) increased confidence in articulating syntactic reasoning, (2) improved accuracy in i’rab, and (3) more coherent structural mapping of verses. Limited training time and uneven coaching intensity emerge as major constraints. The study contributes a preliminary conceptual model linking levels of Nahwu-Shorof proficiency with MTQ tafsir performance, offering an empirical basis for evaluating and structuring future MTQ training programs.

Abstract

Ibn Taymiyyah is a philosopher who has made important contributions to Islamic science in several areas, including philosophy of education. Ibn Taymiyyah's philosophy of education places a strong emphasis on character development, the integration of reason and revelation, and the value of practical knowledge. The purpose of this research is to examine how Ibn Taymiyyah's philosophy of education relates to Arabic language learning. Ibn Taymiyyah's writings, including Majmu' al-Fatawa, Dar'u Ta'arud al-'Aql wa an-Naql, and As-Siyasah as-Shari'ah, as well as additional supporting material, are analyzed and interpreted using a qualitative library research strategy. To determine the main idea of its philosophy of education and investigate its applicability to Arabic language learning, the data underwent both descriptive analysis of educational philosophy. The findings of the study demonstrate that Ibn Taymiyyah's philosophical concept in education encompasses knowledge as a divine mandate, knowledge as a rational search guided by revelation, and knowledge as a means of applying Islamic values. These principles are reflected in the learning of Arabic, where language understanding is not only a means of communication, but also a medium for accessing authentic Islamic texts. In addition, Ibn Taymiyyah's approach is in line with the importance of character development and deep understanding in language learning. It is evident that the implementation of Ibn Taymiyyah's educational philosophy within the context of Arabic language acquisition can foster enhancement not only of linguistic proficiency but also of spiritual development, within the paradigm of Islamic education.

Abstract

Ṣalāwat is a religious form of expression in the Islamic world that serves as a form of prayer and praising the prophet Muhammad and a tool of preaching and cultural identification. One of the most influential texts of the Ṣalāwat Simṭ al-Durar of Habib Ali bin Muhammad Al-Habsyi, but the symbolic expressions contained are usually not fully interpreted. The paper uses qualitative textual analysis to apply the Riffatere semiotic theory developed by Michael Riffaterre which is based on the idea of indirect expression by displacement, distortion and meaning creation. The Simṭ al-Durar manuscript was used as primary sources with the support of the sharḥ literature, scholarly research, and interviews with religious leaders. The symbols that are identified in the analysis include light (nūr), which means prophetic guidance, pearls and jewels, which is a symbol of spiritual purity, fragrance, which is a blessing of God, and journey, which is the spiritual development of the believer. These symbols are multilayered theological and devotional meanings not to be interpreted literally. The results indicate that Simṭ al-Durar is an enriched semiotic text that reinforces religious tradition and gives communal spiritual awareness.

Abstract

The advancement of educational quality in Indonesia has been marked by the implementation of various curricula, including the Independent Study Curriculum, which grants greater flexibility in the selection of learning strategies and materials, particularly in Arabic language instruction. This study aims to investigate the enhancement of Arabic language learning quality at Bina Insani Islamic Junior High School Surabaya, through the application of the Independent Study Curriculum. The method employed is qualitative research design with a case study approach, data were gathered via classroom observations, teacher interviews, and analysis of student performance evaluations. Among the various pedagogical models integrated into the curriculum, project based learning has emerged as a prominent instructional strategy applied by Arabic teachers. The findings reveal that this approach significantly increases student engagement, fosters contextual and meaningful language comprehension, and enables teachers to adapt instruction to students' diverse linguistic backgrounds and learning levels. Furthermore, the implementation of the Independent Study Curriculum contributes to consistent and equitable academic performance across student groups. This research provides practical implications for Arabic language educators seeking to apply flexible and differentiated models under national curriculum frameworks, while also contributing to scholarly discourse on curriculum innovation and contextualized language pedagogy.
