Abstract

The cultivation of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) using a biofloc system is an aquaculture technology that integrates waste management and the production of natural feed in situ, thereby enhancing productivity efficiently. This research aimed to evaluate the effect of EM4 probiotic application in a biofloc system on the growth and survival rate of catfish under different stocking densities. The experiment was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four stocking density treatments: P1 (30 fish/30 L), P2 (40 fish/30 L), P3 (50 fish/30 L), and P4 (60 fish/30 L), each with three replications. Observed parameters included absolute weight and length growth, floc content, hematocrit, hemoglobin, erythrocytes, leukocytes, differential leukocytes and water quality parameters. The treatment P4 showed the most notable effects, with a final absolute weight gain of 11.66 grams and an absolute length increase of 8.11 cm. Furthermore, the probiotic addition had a significant impact on erythrocyte levels and differential leukocyte counts. In contrast, the use of probiotics in the biofloc system did not result in significant differences in hematocrit levels, total leukocyte counts, or biofloc volume.

Abstract

Cupang fish (Betta sp.) are included in the variety of freshwater ornamental fish with attractive and beautiful colors and bodies. However, male betta fish are more desirable. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of immersing betta fish (Betta sp) broodstock using three different types of honey on the percentage of male fish through broodstock immersion. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications, namely P0 (control), P1 (forest honey), P2 (livestock honey), and P3 (mangrove honey), so there were 12 experimental units. Analysis of the percentage of male sex was carried out using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Duncan's test. The calculation results show that the percentage of male fish in forest honey, livestock honey, and mangrove honey are 76%, 74%, and 92%, respectively. The results of the calculation of the survival rate ranged from 50 – 53%, the fecundity value ranged from 160 – 245 eggs, the hatching rate ranged from 53 – 58%, the absolute weight growth showed a relatively similar value, namely 0.61 – 0.70g, and the weight growth specifically shows a value of 2.84 - 2.90%. The water quality parameter values of temperature, pH and DO obtained during the study were still in optimal conditions for betta fish maintenance. Thus it can be concluded that the treatment using mangrove honey is the treatment with the highest effectiveness value for directing the sex of betta fish (Betta sp) to male.

Abstract

Sea urchins are a highly nutritious and economically valuable fishery product. In West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), particularly in Lombok, the public is still largely unaware of the benefits and market value of sea urchins in international markets such as Japan and Korea. Sea urchin gonads are consumed by Koreans and Japanese, and their high nutritional content is believed to improve health performance. However, there are obstacles in the sea urchin market development is the lack of proper standard operating procedures in post-harvest handling. Appropriate and standardized post-harvest techniques are not yet widely known or disseminated among sellers and sea urchin business actors. Prima Nusantara Cooperative is one of the cooperatives that supplies fishery products, including sea urchins, to exporting companies. Based on this, the current community service activity was conducted at Prima Nusantara Cooperative in East Lombok, targeting the cooperative staff. The aim is to provide both theoretical socialization and hands-on training to enhance the staff’s knowledge and skills in post-harvest handling of sea urchins. Through this technical guidance, it is expected that the quality of sea urchin products sold to exporters will improve and be more competitive in the Japanese and Korean markets. The method used during the technical training included presentation of materials on proper sea urchin handling procedures, followed by field practice involving sea urchin sampling, hands-on demonstrations, and direct mentoring through each stage of the process. The post-harvest handling stages included harvesting (collection), cleaning, shell breaking, rinsing, weighing, packaging, and storage at low temperatures.

Abstract

The addition of calcium, phosphorus and magnesium minerals has been carried out separately in vannamei shrimp cultivation activities using fresh water media. Furthermore, the combination of the three types of potassium is expected to mutually fulfill the mineral needs of vannamei shrimp so that their growth becomes more optimal. This research aims to analyze the growth of vannamei shrimp reared in various media with different mineral levels. The treatments in this study were P1 (30 ppt), P2 (20 ppt), P3 (10 ppt), P4 (0 ppt without the addition of minerals), and P5 (0 ppt with the addition of various types of mineral sources). The research results show that the best SGR weight is found in P1 at 12.42%/day. The highest SR value was also obtained at P1, namely 65%. The SR and SGR values at P5 are higher than at P4, but still lower than at P1, P2, and P3. Based on these results, it is known that the growth of vannamei shrimp reared in fresh water media with added minerals has increased compared to vannamei shrimp reared in fresh water media without added minerals, but is still lower compared to the growth of vannamei shrimp reared in water media. sea. Furthermore, research is needed on adding other types of minerals to low salinity vannamei shrimp cultivation media.

Abstract

Abalone shells (Haliotis sp.), known as seven-eyed shellfish, are a type of gastropod. Abalone shells have high economic value accompanied by high market demand. The selling price of abalone reaches Rp. 250,000 (shells and meat). To optimize abalone cultivation activities with a long growth time, one method is needed for cultivating abalone shells in KJA (Floating Net Cages), namely using a tiered system in one hanger with different depths, namely 1m, 2m, 3m, 4m and 5m. so that it can increase land efficiency in cultivation activities. The aim of this research is to evaluate and analyze the effect of depth on the growth and survival rate of abalone shells (Haliotis sp.) using a multilevel system. The method used in this research was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) experimental method with five treatments and three replications. The results of the research conducted showed that the results of the anova test on absolute length growth, specific length growth rate, absolute weight growth, specific weight growth rate, and survival of abalone shells (haliotis sp.) showed that they had no real influence (>0.05) on the maintenance of abalone shells. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that using a tiered system at different depths does not have a real effect on the growth of abalone shells because the water quality conditions at a depth of 1-5 meters are optimal so they can support the growth of abalone shells.

Abstract

The aquaculture sector is growing rapidly, but it faces various challenges, particularly concerning the health of fish and other aquatic organisms. This study aims to evaluate the potential of mangosteen peel extract as an antimicrobial agent against the bacterium Aeromonas hydrophila. This bacterium is known as a pathogen in fish and can cause significant diseases in aquaculture. Mangosteen peel extract was chosen because it contains active compounds such as xanthones, which have been proven to have antimicrobial properties. The initial method involves extraction with methanol, followed by filtration and separation using an evaporator. The method used to determine the content of mangosteen peel extract is FTIR analysis. Next, the antibacterial activity of the crude mangosteen peel extract is tested. The antioxidant testing is based on the agar diffusion method. Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria are cultured at a tested LD50 density of 0.05 ml on a TSA plate medium, spread evenly across the entire agar surface with a glass stick. Paper discs with a diameter of 6 mm, previously dipped in crude mangosteen peel extract, are placed on different TSA media. The test is repeated three times (triplicate) to obtain the average inhibition zone (clear zone), then incubated at 29°C, and observations are made of the inhibition zone's development at the 24th hour. The inhibition zone of mangosteen peel extract (Garcinia mangostana) against Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria, measuring 0.2±0.0 cm (20 mm), falls into the category of very strong. This indicates that mangosteen peel has the potential to be used as an alternative immunostimulant in place of antibiotics for the control of Motile Aeromonas Septicemia.
