Abstract

This article explores the strategic contributions of two Islamic-based youth organizations. Ansor Youth Movement and Muhammadiyah Youth are working to actualize the values of national defense and strengthen civic engagement amid contemporary socio-political challenges in Indonesia. The background of this study is rooted in the urgent need to revitalize the concept of national defense, which is no longer limited to militaristic dimensions but also involves the role of citizens in maintaining social integration, interfaith tolerance, and national unity. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method, conducted in Tangerang Regency, Banten Province. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis, then analyzed using data reduction, thematic categorization, and interpretive meaning analysis. The findings reveal that the actualization of national defense by both organizations is implemented through cadre education, leadership training, and public advocacy grounded in national and religious values. Their involvement in cross-identity social actions, collaboration with the government, and efforts to counter intolerance serve as tangible forms of active citizenship. Furthermore, the development of social capital through solidarity, norms of reciprocity, and trust networks has proven crucial in strengthening civic resilience and national security. This article recommends the enhancement of harmony between youth organizations, government institutions, and educational entities in constructing an inclusive, critical, and value-based model of citizenship.

Abstract

Background: The development of Pancasila character in early childhood is very important, especially in the context of working families who often face challenges in providing optimal character education. The character of Pancasila includes values such as justice, tolerance, and mutual cooperation, which need to be instilled from an early age to form a generation with integrity. Research Objectives: This research aims to explore the strategy of developing Pancasila character in early childhood in working families, as well as understand the experiences and challenges faced by parents in the process. Research Method: This study uses a qualitative phenomenological approach, which allows researchers to explore the subjective experiences of parents in developing Pancasila characters in their children. The data were collected through in-depth interviews with working parents, as well as observations of their interactions with children. Research Findings: The use of quality time with children, involving the family in character building, introducing children to religious and social activities, and the use of technology to learn Pancasila values, are all important aspects in shaping the character of Pancasila in children. This helps strengthen moral values, social concerns, and positive communication between parents and children, thereby helping children understand and apply Pancasila values better. Research Conclusion: This study concludes that the development of Pancasila character in early childhood in working families requires collaboration between parents, educational institutions, and the community. Greater support from the surrounding environment can help parents in implementing effective strategies. Research Novelty: This study provides new insights into how working families can contribute to the development of Pancasila character, as well as highlighting the importance of the role of the social environment in supporting the character education process at home.

Abstract

This research aims to reflect on citizenship campaigns as a means of community civics to strengthen civic engagement through a qualitative approach and phenomenological methods. Participant reflections emphasize how civic engagement manifests in civic activity and political voice through community civics, particularly concerning the socio-cultural dimensions of civic education, which align with the goals of fostering smart and good citizenship. Civic activity is associated with philanthropic movements, while political voice relates closely to political aspirations aimed at influencing policy. This reflection on citizenship campaigns serves as a channel for community civics, enhancing civic engagement in the form of both civic activity and political voice related to the public good and public interest. Campaigns can act as tools for persuasion and the dissemination of ideas that promote the development of citizen attributes. Furthermore, this study enriches the understanding of civic communication which is intrinsically linked to how citizens behave, engage, and participate in civic issues relating to the meaning of aspects of communication and use of media.

Abstract

The young generation plays a crucial role in combating corruption; however, their engagement is suboptimal due to insufficient ethical awareness regarding corruption issues and challenges in differentiating between corruption within governmental systems and public services. This research aims to investigate the civic responsibilities of the youth in the anti-corruption movement. The research method employed is qualitative, using an ethnographic approach. This study's findings indicate that civic responsibility manifests in two dimensions: citizen engagement and citizen participation in addressing and eliminating corruption within educational, social, legal, and religious contexts. The youth significantly contribute to the conservative anti-corruption movement by fostering and reinforcing moral, spiritual, cultural, and civic values within an environment that cultivates and shapes the attitudes and behaviours of active, creative, and innovative individuals in the battle against corruption. Consequently, it can be inferred that this conservative anti-corruption initiative aims to cultivate character and integrity among youths through extensive campaigns, promotions, counselling, and mentoring.

Abstract

Disability in Indonesia and globally remains closely associated with systemic discrimination, as legal protections alone have not been sufficient to dismantle stigma rooted in ableism, isolation, and exclusion. Citizenship education, when integrated with disability studies, offers a constructive framework for promoting inclusivity and civic participation in line with the social model of disability, which challenges the medical and charity models that perpetuate marginalization. This study aims to analyse how disability studies can be integrated into non-formal citizenship education to strengthen civic engagement that empowers people with disabilities and reflects transformative citizenship and civic empowerment. This research used a qualitative descriptive method with purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected through interviews and observations with people with disabilities and their families, philanthropic communities, election officials, disability service units in higher education, and experts in citizenship education, health, public policy, and Pancasila studies. The findings show that empowerment initiatives—such as philanthropic programs, service learning, and inclusive election practices—are present but remain fragmented, ceremonial, and constrained by weak inter-sectoral collaboration. Nonetheless, the integration of service learning and pentahelix collaboration strengthens civic competence, youth leadership, and inclusive participation in communities. This study concludes that Indonesia’s Pancasila citizenship model provides a strong normative foundation for embedding disability empowerment in citizenship education. Its contribution lies in expanding citizenship education theory through disability perspectives while offering practical strategies for cross-sectoral collaboration. The implication is the need for sustainable policies and civic practices to transform legal guarantees into inclusive social justice.

Abstract

The tendency of citizens in developing countries such as Indonesia to adopt modern foreign nations as social role models has contributed to the marginalization of Indonesia’s own cultural identity. The Pancasila-based character, enriched with local wisdom, represents a distinctive national strength. This study aims to analyze the manifestation of Society 5.0 within the scope of Indonesian education, identify strategies to strengthen Pancasila character in this context, and formulate strategic plans for character formation rooted in local wisdom. This study employs qualitative methods, synthesizing data from scientific books, peer-reviewed journals, and official government documents to capture the latest trends and best practices of the Society 5.0 era, which provide important opportunities to strengthen national character. Findings indicate that the Society 5.0 era offers a pivotal opportunity to reinforce national character. Character education, anchored in local wisdom and aligned with Pancasila values, strengthens Indonesia’s national identity and can be effectively implemented through a comprehensive management approach that encompasses intra-curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities. This research provides a practical framework for character-education management that can inform policy decisions and educational practice, offering a scalable model for embedding Pancasila values into future-oriented education systems.

Abstract

This research examines effective strategies applied by volunteers in facing challenges to build sustainable communities based on civic engagement. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, this research explores the in-depth experiences of volunteers involved in handling waste issues in Malang City. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, which were systematically analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that close collaboration with various stakeholders, including the government and local organizations, is key to expanding support and increasing the impact of activities. Regular internal education enhances volunteer capacity, while public campaigns and advocacy drive community awareness and policy change. Community solidarity and emotional support between volunteers play an important role in maintaining collective motivation. Other strategies include flexible time management, task delegation, and utilizing creativity in managing limited resources. Self-management is also crucial in dealing with internal challenges such as social pressure and personal expectations. Volunteers who are able to manage their emotions and stay focused on the organization's vision show higher consistency in action. This research offers practical guidance for social organizations in improving the efficiency and impact of their activities, while contributing to the academic literature on volunteer dynamics in building sustainable communities. The findings underscore the importance of innovation, collaboration and civic engagement-based approaches as a foundation for addressing increasingly complex social and environmental challenges
