Abstract

This study explores the role of productive zakat in fostering sustainable economic empowerment among coastal communities, using the Cak Kaji Program implemented by the National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS) in Gresik, Indonesia. The research examines how zakat, as a core instrument in Islamic economics, can transcend traditional charitable functions and contribute to long-term socioeconomic development. The result is the empowerment through several programs, namely rolling livestock, micro finance and rombong assistance for small seller. This study it can be concluded that the community empowerment program through the distribution of productive zakat carried out by Baznas Gresik is already good, where Baznas Gresik has provided alternative livelihoods, capital access, technology access, markets access, and the collective action development. But there is something that needs to be improved in alternative livelihoods and access to markets. Baznas Gresik needs to add types of empowerment programs so that there are more choices for mustahiq businesses and create a market for the results of mustahiq businesses so that they can be well absorbed by consumers. The study contributes to the broader discourse on the operationalization of Islamic economic principles in contemporary development frameworks, offering insights for policymakers, zakat institutions, and development practitioners worldwide.

Abstract

Sexual violence at public educational institutions, particularly Pesantren or Islamic Boarding Schools, is a strong warning since it has gone beyond the limits of public values, morality, and ethics, even in sacred spaces. This study investigates how the Qur'an and pesantren sexology literature respond to violence through a thematic examination of Qur'anic verses and analysis of pesantren literature material using a linguistic structural analysis approach. As a result, key phrases like al-'Aurat, Tasta'nisu, Ghaddu al-Bashar, 'Adam al Ikhtilat, Zinatun, al-Farj, Tukhalitu, and Fakhisyah are included in the Qur'anic moral concept of language structure. When considered in its context, the phrase demonstrates value in two significant ways: first, it highlights the relationship between Kiyai and Santri, which is followed by the paradigm of sexology preventative literacy for teenagers, and second, it highlights the preventive system of pesantren spatial management and the communication model.

Abstract

The SDGs are designed as a universal and inclusive global development framework, but their implementation still lacks flexibility in accommodating the spiritual dimension and ethical principles. Based on quantitative indicators and material achievements, the SDGs approach ignores the moral, social, and spiritual aspects as the core of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. Therefore, this study seeks to analyze the alignment between the SDGs and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah and proposes integrating Islamic values to strengthen the moral, social, and ecological dimensions within the sustainable development framework. This research uses a systematic literature review analysis method, focusing on literature to explore integrating the maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah concept in sustainable development. The data sources in this study are journal articles, books, and other relevant documents. Sustainable development involves a multidimensional approach encompassing social, lifestyle, human resources, economic, environmental, and institutional dimensions. In the concept of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, this approach must balance the public interest, social welfare, and environmental protection by emphasizing the principles of justice and ethical and moral responsibility. Challenges in this implementation include integrating maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah values with the SDGs, various interpretations of maqāṣid, economic and social challenges, climate change, and technological advancement. The integration of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah with the SDGs shows alignment. It supports the achievement of welfare, but challenges, such as integration, interpretation, economic and social, environment, and technology, must be overcome for effective implementation. This study recommends strengthening sustainable development policies that consider maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah through education, technological innovation, and stakeholder collaboration.

Abstract

Argumentation is a core component of critical thinking, one of the essential 21st-century skills. However, exploring this skill remains a challenge, often due to limitations in the available assessment methods. This study aims to offer a solution by utilizing the think-aloud protocol to explore and better understand the argumentation skills of Pre-Service Science Teachers (PSTs). A total of 30 PSTs from a state university in Indonesia participated in the research. Data collection and analysis through the think-aloud protocol were conducted in several stages: procedural briefing, implementation, coding and video analysis, and data interpretation. The findings revealed that the think-aloud protocol was effective in providing deeper insights into argumentation skills and yielded more detailed and accurate data across five key components: claims, evidence, reasoning, counterarguments, and rebuttals. On average, the PSTs demonstrated beginner-level argumentation skills, with the strongest performance in the claim component and weaker results in supporting aspects. Specifically, 5 participants were categorized as proficient, 9 as advanced, 6 as intermediate, and 10 as beginners. These results highlight the need for more effective learning strategies that provide PSTs with greater opportunities to practice constructing and critiquing arguments.

Abstract

The village fund is the government's effort to reduce poverty in villages in Indonesia, including in North Maluku. From the perspective of development funding, village funds play a major role in improving the quality of villages in North Maluku. But in fact, the poverty rate in North Maluku has actually increased. Based on these facts, this paper seeks to explain how the effectiveness of village funds is to reduce poverty and improve community welfare. To answer this problem, a qualitative research approach was carried out by the method of collecting in-depth interview data and focus group discussions with the village head, BPD and village communities.By conducting in-depth interviews and focus group discussions, this study found that village funds in Beringin Jaya and Akeguraci Villages in Tidore Kepulauan District and Ake Jailolo Village and Bobane Village, West Halmahera District, North Maluku, were able to improve the status of villages from disadvantaged to developing villages, but these changes are not followed by an increase in welfare (Falah). This is because village fund programs are more focused on infrastructure development but have not been able to meet economic and social aspects of life, such as providing life skills, enhancing harmony, and independence. The main problem is that human resources are still low both in terms of education level and quality of expertise so that village funds are managed as is.This study recommends that village funds are effective in reducing poverty, the village government needs to prepare a village development blueprint (renstra) in the next 5 years with clear indicators based on village achievements and the amount of village funds received. Village governments also need to send village fund managers to attend training on planning and reportingvillage financialKeywords: village funds, index, empowerment, Falah, North Maluku
