Abstract

Strengthening community is a fundamental aspect of community service, particularly in fostering a harmonious and empowered faith life. This was clearly reflected in the Catholic community of St. Vincentius a Paulo Parish, Malang, especially among the youth, whose focus was on nurturing faith and active engagement in both church and society. The program aimed to support young people in deepening their faith as part of their preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation. Community service activities were organized into four groups: SMP A, SMP B, high school students, and adults, with sessions conducted at Santa Maria Catholic Senior High School, Malang. The program used several methods: coordination, structured scheduling, team training, and catechetical formation. The results showed that community strengthening was carried out effectively based on the planned strategies and shared pastoral goals. Coordination between the parish priest, catechists, and local leaders produced a well-organized schedule. Collaborative training created synergy among the youth, enhancing their commitment to faith and active participation in church life. This structured approach successfully guided all participants toward receiving the sacrament with readiness and devotion. They actively participated in the sessions and showed improved understanding of the significance of community life as a foundation of faith. Moreover, this process motivated them to embody these values in their daily routines through active engagement in both church and social environments. The program ultimately strengthened their faith journey and equipped them with a deeper sense of responsibility and meaningful involvement within the Catholic community and wider society.

Abstract

The inefficient layout of production facilities can hinder smooth production processes and reduce operational effectiveness. The RR Tofu Factory still uses a traditional, unstructured layout that does not comply with the principles of facility layout design (FLA). This study aims to redesign the layout of the production facilities of the tofu factory to improve operational efficiency and space utilization. This study employs a descriptive quantitative method involving field data collection and analysis of equipment quantities, processing times, and area requirements. The results of the study show that the new layout design can organize departments more systematically, streamline the production flow, and reduce process obstacles. With this redesign, the RR Tofu Factory is expected to operate more effectively and in compliance with facility layout standards

Abstract

This study examines the impact of changes in customary marriage structures on the individualisation of customary land rights, from communal to individual ownership, and its implications for the governance and protection of customary land in Indonesia's indigenous communities. Using normative legal methods, the study finds that modernisation and land certification policies encourage the fragmentation of collective rights into private rights, thereby posing risks to weakened social solidarity, ownership conflicts, and increased vulnerability to land exploitation. Although providing administrative legal certainty, individualisation has not been able to optimally accommodate customary values and the social functions of customary land. Therefore, synergy between customary law and national law is needed to create fair and sustainable agrarian regulations, ensuring the protection of customary rights while adapting to the socio-cultural dynamics of indigenous communities.

Abstract

Indonesia, as a multicultural country, possesses diverse traditions, including those related to marriage. In the Bugis-Makassar society, uang panai’ is a deeply rooted tradition that serves as an integral part of marriage, symbolizing respect for women and the responsibility of the groom. Despite its profound philosophical meaning, the practice of uang panai’ has undergone a shift in meaning, often becoming a status symbol, which has led to delays or even cancellations of marriages. This study aims to examine the legal status of uang panai’ in the Indonesian legal system and its role within Bugis-Makassar society. This research employs a normative legal research method, focusing on a statutory approach, a conceptual approach, and an Islamic legal approach. The findings indicate that uang panai’ is classified as customary law, which is recognized within Indonesia’s legal framework. Its legal status can be found in Fatwa MUI Sulsel No. 2 of 2022 on Uang Panai’, although this fatwa does not carry binding legal authority as legislation. Within Bugis-Makassar society, uang panai’ functions as a customary norm with moral binding force; however, its implementation must be proportional to ensure it does not become an excessive burden on the groom and his family.

Abstract

This study examines national and international legal frameworks concerning the provision of conjugal visit facilities (commonly referred to as “bilik asmara”) for inmates in Indonesia, which currently lacks explicit legal regulation. The core issue lies in a legal vacuum (rechtsvacuum) that results in uncertainty regarding the legality of such facilities and weak protection of prisoners’ fundamental rights, particularly the right to family life and sexual rights. The objective of this research is to analyze the legitimacy of conjugal visit facilities from the perspectives of both national and international law. This study adopts a normative legal research method, utilizing statutory and analytical approaches. The findings indicate that Indonesia’s national legal system provides implicit legitimacy for the provision of conjugal visits, as reflected in Article 28B(1) of the 1945 Constitution, Law No. 1 of 1974 on Marriage, Law No. 22 of 2022 on Corrections, and Law No. 39 of 1999 on Human Rights. These legal instruments affirm the state's responsibility to fulfill the sexual rights of inmates within the institution of marriage. Additionally, international legal legitimacy is implicitly found in Article 10(1) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), ratified by Law No. 12 of 2005, and Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, both of which guarantee humane treatment of prisoners. The provision of conjugal visit facilities constitutes a fulfillment of inmates’ constitutional rights and the state’s international obligations in protecting human rights. This study underscores the importance of harmonizing international norms with national legislation to realize a humane and just correctional system.

Abstract

This study examines the legal status of fatwas issued by the Indonesian Ulema Council (Majelis Ulama Indonesia, MUI) within Indonesia’s regulatory system. The research aims to identify the legal position of MUI fatwas in the Indonesian legal hierarchy and to analyze their juridical nature within the national legal framework. Employing normative legal research methods, this study adopts a statute-based and analytical approach, focusing on statutory regulations, legal doctrines, and relevant legal theories. The findings indicate that MUI fatwas do not constitute formal legislation and thus lack general binding legal force, as they are not issued by state-authorized bodies nor do they fulfill the formal requirements of written law. Nevertheless, MUI fatwas retain significant value as material legal sources and interpretive guidance, particularly for Indonesian Muslims and institutions such as Religious Courts. The nature of MUI fatwas is that of internal religious opinions non binding and applicable only to those who recognize the moral or religious authority of the MUI. Therefore, MUI fatwas are persuasive and moral-religious in character, rather than coercive like state enacted positive law.
