Abstract

Parental knowledge about toddler feeding patterns is one of the factors that can affect the incidence of stunting. Knowledge about toddlers' feeding patterns can be influenced by socioeconomic factors such as education level, occupation, and income. This study analyzed the relationship between education level, occupation, and income with parental knowledge of toddler feeding patterns in the stunting locus. This study used a quantitative correlation design with a secondary data approach. The population is the respondent from secondary data, parents with toddlers in Sukamulya Village. The samples were taken using the total sampling technique of 76 people. The variables in the study were education level, occupation, income, and knowledge of child nutrition patterns. The instrument consisted of questions on education level, employment status, income level, and 14 toddler feeding patterns knowledge questions. Statistical test using Chi-square with 5% significance level. The results of the study found that there was no relationship between education level (p-value=0.282), occupation (p-value=0.717), and income (p-value=1.000) with toddler feeding patterns knowledge. It is due to other factors that influence the knowledge of children's eating habits. More research is needed to determine the factors that influence knowledge of children's feeding patterns.

Abstract

Stunting remains a public health burden in Indonesia. National strategy and coordination of acceleration implementation for stunting reduction have been applied. The transdisciplinary approach is essential to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of all levels of participating in stunting programs. This transdisciplinary approach is expected to solve stunting problems from upstream to downstream and provide innovations based on local and national needs. In creating a stunting-free area, a transdisciplinary approach not only decreases stunting prevalence but also sustains children's health status.

Abstract

Stunting is still a nutritional health problem in children that has received the attention of the developing world. Knowledge of stunting plays a role in efforts to prevent stunting. Breastfeeding in the first six months of life is one of the preventive behaviours whose success is influenced by knowledge. This research aimed to determine the relationship between stunting knowledge and exclusive breastfeeding behaviour in mothers with toddlers. This research design is secondary research with quantitative correlational methods with a retrospective approach. The sample was determined through a purposive sampling technique with the inclusion criteria of mothers with toddlers and exclusion criteria for mothers with children over five years old so that 55 respondents were obtained. The instrument includes demographic information, stunting knowledge, and exclusive breastfeeding behaviour. The statistical test used is Chi-Square. The study results show no relationship between the level of knowledge about stunting and exclusive breastfeeding behaviour (p-value = 0.16). Knowledge can affect the occurrence of the behaviour, but other aspects can influence the occurrence of a behaviour. Further research is needed by modifying the methods and variables used.

Abstract

Stunting, a condition of impaired growth and development due to chronic malnutrition, remains a significant challenge in Indonesia. Efforts to address this issue have been hindered by an inadequate understanding of the predictors of stunting, particularly in the first 1000 days of a child's life. To address this gap, a scoping review was conducted to identify factors influencing stunting in children aged 0-24 months in Indonesia. The review focused on observational studies published from 2012 to 2023, retrieved from five international databases using specific keywords. Among the 16 articles, 10 factors with 26 predictors emerged, spanning child, mother, home, inadequate complementary feeding, inadequate breastfeeding, poor quality foods, infection, political economy, health and healthcare, and social culture factor. Most predictors aligned with mother, child, and home factors. These findings provide a foundation for targeted interventions and collaborative efforts across sectors to combat stunting and ensure healthier futures for Indonesia's children.

Abstract

Smoking, an addictive behaviour, is a health problem that is still found during the COVID-19 pandemic. There are several possibilities that have impacts on smoking behaviour during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study is to understand the description of smoking addiction during the COVID-19 pandemic towards students at the University. A descriptive quantitative research design was used. This study involved one variable which is smoking behavioral dependence during the COVID-19 pandemic in students at the University. The populations in this study are students who are active smokers (conventional, electric, or shisha) at one of the universities in Indonesia. The sampling technique uses accidental sampling, and it is obtained a sample of 378 students. The instrument in this study uses the GN-SBQ (Glover Nilsson-Smoking Behavioural Questionnaire). The results of the research data are analyzed using descriptive analysis in the percentage frequency distribution. Based on the results of the study, it is found that during the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the respondents experienced smoking dependency behavioral moderate (66.4%), strong (20.9%), and mild (12.7%). The use of cigarettes during the COVID-19 pandemic mostly uses conventional rather than electric and shisha. Based on the characteristics of the respondents, smoking behavioral dependency is dominated by male students, aged 21 years, grade 2017, and had pocket money in the middle economic category. Therefore, this study recommends health services to provide counselling and mentoring services for students, which one of them is the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach to reduce the level of smoking behavior.

Abstract

Adolescence is a period of crisis where if one phase in the period is not well passed, it will push adolescents into problems, one of which is teenage marriage. However, studies related to adolescents' attitudes towards marriage in adolescence for areas that are at high risk of experiencing an increase in marriage in adolescence are still limited. This research aims to obtain an overview of teenagers' attitudes in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province regarding early marriage in terms of 7 related dimensions. This research is a documentation study of secondary data from the research team "Comprehensive Study of the Stunting Reduction Acceleration Program in Bangka Belitung Islands Province," and the method used in the research is quantitative descriptive. The population of this study is adolescents aged 15-20 years in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, which is part of the previous research data. The sampling technique used total sampling, and after screening to see the completeness of the data, there were 206 complete data. Data was collected using the EMAS (Early Marriage Attitude Scale) questionnaire. The analysis technique used is the univariate data analysis technique using a computer software program. The results show that most respondents (54.9%) have a negative attitude about teenage marriage. The conclusion of this research is that the attitudes of teenagers in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province tend to reject (negatively) teenage marriage in terms of the respondents' characteristics and each dimension of attitude research examined in this study.

Abstract

Stunting can interfere with the growth and development of children because it’s a chronic nutritional problem caused by a deficit in nutritional intake for a long period of time. If during pregnancy the mother's nutritional status is low, there is a risk of giving birth to a stunting baby. Supplements are given to meet the nutritional needs of pregnant women who are not fulfilled from food. Objective: This study aims to analyze the current literature on nutritional supplementation programs for pregnant women to prevent further stunting among children. Methods: This literature review was carried out on articles in PubMed and CINAHL, published from 2012 to 2022, with a systematic review, meta-analysis, as well as clinical and RCT designs in English. The primary keyword used were “supplements” AND “pregnancy” OR “antenatal” AND “stunting” AND “prevention”. Results: Only 9 articles aligned with the criteria were reported, some of which stated that lipid-based nutritional supplements reduced the risk of stunting babies. Furthermore, supplements containing folic acid, iron, micronutrients, zinc, osteocalcin, and animal protein can reduce the risk of stunting. Conclusions: Supplements for pregnant women containing folic acid and iron, specific nutrients, lipid-based nutritional supplements, micronutrients, osteocalcin, and animal protein reduce stunting in children.

Abstract

Poor personal hygiene practices can affect the incidence of infectious diseases which in turn can increase the risk of stunting. Several factors influence the practice of personal hygiene in the care of under-five children, namely the level of education and income of parents. The research was to analyze the relationship between parents' education and income level with personal hygiene practices in under-five children's care. The research design is a quantitative correlation with secondary data sources. The population is parents who have under-five children in Sukamulya Village, Bandung. Samples were taken using an accidental sampling technique with a total of 85 respondents, excluding parents whose children died in the under-five age range or whose children were 5 years old at the time of data collection. The instrument is a questionnaire consisting of demographic data and 7 questions related to personal hygiene practices in caring for under-five children. The data were analyzed using the Spearman test. The results showed that there was no relationship between the educational (p-value=0.16) and income (p-value=0.887) level of parents with personal hygiene practices in caring for under-five children in Sukamulya Village, Bandung. The next research suggestion is to examine other factors that influence personal hygiene practices in caring for under-five children.
