Abstract

ABSTRACTThe research aims to investigate students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh grade of Senior High School before and after using the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) technique, and also to investigate the effectiveness of CIRC technique to improve students’ reading comprehension as well. CIRC technique was chosen as the x variable in the research. The research applied pre-experimental, one group pre-test – post-test design. The population of the research was eleventh grade that consisted of five classes and class XI IPS 3 was chosen as the sample. There were 26 students in this class. The instruments used to collect the data were tests which consist of pre-test and post-test. Pre-test was conducted to investigate students’ reading comprehension before treatments. The result indicated students’ reading comprehension was fair. Meanwhile, post-test was conducted to examine students’ reading comprehension after treatments. Furthermore, it can be concluded that there is significant effect of using CIRC technique. In line with that, it can be concluded that Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) technique is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension. Keywords: Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) technique, reading, comprehension

Abstract

Language is a communication tool to convey ideas or opinions and feelings to others. Through language, people can be interconnected, share, learn from each other, and improve their intellectual abilities. The ability to communicate in English is very crucial in the world of work. One of the abilities demanded by alumni of English education study programs is the ability to communicate in English. So far, based on the experience of researchers while teaching, there are still students who are unable to speak in public or make English presentations. They have less confidence to do it. Abstract

Many students claim that writing is the most difficult skills due to it is complicated in its production. In their learning, the students need a suitable method to help their writing. Peer feedback is the one of those methods that can support students’ learning writing in non-threatening atmosphere. This research aims to reveal EFL students’ problems in learning writingand students’ perceptions about peer feedback method in learning writing. In this research, the qualitative research design used was a case study through the instrument that are observation and interview for collecting the data. The participant of this research is eleventh grade of electricity engineering in one of vocational school in Majalengka. The result showed that students still faced the common problems in learning writing. The highest percentage of students’ problem is in vocabulary (45%) and the lowest percentage is in create content (5%). However, after implemented the practice of peer feedback, majority of the students provided the positive perceptions toward peer feedback. There is 70% students said that peer feedback helped them in learning writing. Also, they said that peer feedback has a number of benefits for their writing.

Abstract

Reading plays an important role in process of language. Selfefficacy belief about reading, access to interesting to read English text and interaction with media tool is factors that motivate students to read. The aims of the research are: 1) to reveal the students’ perception to use of digital text in learning reading; and 2) to reveal students’ motivation to use of digital text in learning reading. Reseacher used case study as the research design. The participants in this research is the students of X TITL (Teknik Instalasi Tenaga Listrik) D grade one of vocational high school in Majalengka. Data collection techniques were observation, questionnaire and interview. The findings of the research showed that students have 75% as good motivation, and they agreed advantages of digital text as a digital learning reading but there are faced the problem in reading like the vocabulary, the condition of class and ability to do exercise make them difficult. The conclusion of this research are students claim that using digital text can help them in learning reading and given the positive responses about digital text. Digital text is different from print paper where some of advantages they feel such as digital text give them different way in learning, pictures in digital learning make them more understood and interested, then digital text more weight less and lighter. Furthermore, digital text can increase students’ motivation.Keyword: Reading, Digital Text, Perception, Motivation

Abstract

This study aims to describes narrative writing skills are one aspect of language skills that are very important. Learning to write until now is still a lesson that is less attractive to students. One of the things that causes it learners are less interested in the teaching of writing is the selection of instructional media, need for learning as something that is fun, comforting, and easy is something that is urgent due to the development of modernization in various fields. One of them is information and communication technology (ICT), through the use of media, it is hoped that it can help facilitate students in expressing ideas to be developed into a narrative essay. The use of media has the possibility to be used as an alternative method in an effort to develop narrative writing learning. It is expected that most students are happy and interested in learning using media. In addition, the media can help the difficulties of students in determining topics in their narrative.
