Abstract

STEAM-based learning in Gowa district has not been optimised despite its relevant local potential. Teachers have difficulty integrating science, technology, art, engineering and mathematics into the P5 Project. Community service activities are designed with the aim of improving teacher competence through practice-based training, intensive mentoring, and the formation of learning communities. This programme also aims to strengthen the implementation of Merdeka Curriculum, which emphasises collaborative and contextual learning. Participants totalled 20 high school teachers from various schools. The initial stage of socialisation showed the urgency of training, because 75% of teachers had never developed a STEAM-based project. The workshop then produced a simple hydroponic project design. Quantitative data showed an increase in concept understanding from 45% to 82% and project design skills from 42% to 80%. The satisfaction survey recorded that 90% of teachers considered the activities relevant to their needs. The satisfaction survey recorded 90% of teachers rated the activities as relevant to their needs. Qualitative data shows that teachers feel more confident in integrating across disciplines, students show high engagement during project implementation, STEAM learning communities begin to form as a means of sustainability. This fact confirms that the combination of socialisation, training and mentoring is able to address teachers' needs. A brief conclusion states that the programme has succeeded in significantly improving teacher competence. This effort strengthens the implementation of Merdeka Curriculum, confirms the urgency of practice-based training, while supporting the achievement of P5 Project objectives in Gowa District schools.

Abstract

Oxidative stress drives many degenerative conditions, motivating the search for safe, plant-based antioxidants. Sago (Metroxylon sagu Rottb.) leaf is comparatively underexplored. This study evaluated its antioxidant activity and related it to phenolic and flavonoid contents. A 96% ethanolic leaf extract was assayed for radical-scavenging activity by DPPH using ascorbic acid as the positive control; IC50 values were obtained from linear regression of % inhibition versus concentration (2.5–10 ppm). Composition was profiled by total phenolic content (TPC; Folin–Ciocalteu, expressed as mg gallic acid equivalents per g, mg GAE/g) and total flavonoid content (TFC; AlCl3 colorimetry, expressed as mg quercetin equivalents per g, mg QE/g). The extract showed very strong DPPH activity (IC50 = 11.873 ± 0.025 µg/mL), while ascorbic acid yielded 3.166 ± 0.025 µg/mL; both fall within the <50 µg/mL category. The extract contained TPC = 1.61% w/w (~16.1 mg GAE/g) and TFC = 3.05% w/w (reported on the quercetin-equivalent scale). These indices are consistent with the low IC50 and support a phenolic-driven antioxidant profile. Metroxylon sagu leaf extract exhibits very strong radical-scavenging activity, supported by appreciable levels of phenolics and flavonoids, which identify M. sagu leaves as a promising natural antioxidant source. The findings provide a concise quantitative basis for follow-up work focused on targeted phenolic/flavonoid profiling, as well as broader antioxidant evaluations.

Abstract

Picking the wrong learning model can obstruct the growth of students' competencies. This research seeks to evaluate the efficacy of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model when integrated with the STEAM approach to boost science process skills, creative thinking, and critical thinking among high school students during biology lessons. Employing a quasi experiment with a quantitative method, the study included 65 tenth-grade students from SMA Negeri 9 Makassar, separated into an experimental group (PjBL-STEAM) and a control group (PjBL). Data collection utilized observation forms and written assessments, followed by analysis through N-Gain tests and inferential statistics. Findings indicated that the STEAM-combined PjBL model managed to enhance creative thinking abilities (N-Gain 0.52) and critical thinking (N-Gain 0.50) at a moderate level, although it fell short in sufficiently promoting science process skills, which remained in the good range. The study concludes that incorporating STEAM affects science process skills and creative

Abstract

The critical learning model is a learning model based on social constructivism. This study aims to develop a valid, practical, and effective learning model to improve students' critical thinking skills. The basis for the development of this learning model is that students are not actively involved in the PBL model because the problems are not relevant to students' lives, so the researcher developed a critical learning model that emphasizes the implementation of problems presented relevant to students' lives. This study uses the RnD research method, which refers to the ADDIE model. The research respondents included 2 expert validators, practitioners, and students of SMAN 9 Makassar. The development of the model produced a critical learning model syntax consisting of managing; directing; guiding and probing; explaining; and assessing; with purposive sampling at SMAN 9 Makassar class XII 5 Biology Interest. The results showed that the learning model met the validity criteria with a very high category (0.85), practicality with a practical category (83.98%), and effectiveness with a moderate category (0.67) so that the critical learning model is valid, practical, and effective in improving students' critical thinking skills. The results of field trials have proven that they can improve students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Most degenerative diseases are linked to excess free radicals generated by the body's metabolism or exposure to external factors. Antioxidants are used to help neutralize free radicals and treat bacterial infections. Andiroba bark (Carapa guianensis) is one of the plants used empirically by the people of the Province of Jeneponto to treat various diseases. This study aims to determine whether the ethanol extract of andiroba bark meets the standardization requirements and exhibits antioxidant activity, and to identify its ability to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Escherichia coli. The results of the research showed that the results of specific and non-specific standardization of the ethanol extract from andiroba bark met the specified requirements, the ethanol extract had an antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 15.985 μg/mL, which was included in the group of very strong antioxidants and could inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Escherichia coli bacteria at concentrations of 0.01 g/mL, 0.05 g/mL, and 0.1 g/mL. Overall, the ethanol extract from andiroba bark meets the standardization requirements and exhibits antibacterial activity.

Abstract

In Indonesia’s emergency settings, family requests to postpone medical procedures present significant legal risks for health workers. Medical records often capture only patient consent or refusal, neglecting documentation of deferred actions. This study analyzes the legal position of deferred informed consent under the Health Law, the Medical Practice Law, and Ministry of Health regulations, while exploring practices observed at a district hospital. Using a descriptive legal approach, normative analysis was combined with semi-structured interviews with nine participants at Aliyah 1 General Hospital, including the chair of the medical committee, a medical records officer, physicians, and ward heads. Findings highlight three recurring issues: role ambiguity (unclear disclosure responsibilities during busy periods), temporal opacity (uncertainty about decision-making time and its effect on care), and undefined clinical thresholds (absence of guidelines for escalation). Additional problems include inconsistent delegation notes, varying comprehension among family members, and inadequate documentation of communication with off-site decision-makers. To address these gaps, this study proposes a Deferral of Medical Action Form and a Deferred-Action Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). These tools would record the initiator and rationale for postponement, urgency or triage level, risk briefing, time-bound reassessment, and clear clinical triggers. They mandate physician-led disclosure, identification of interpreters if needed, maintenance of brief communication logs, and linkage to eventual consent or refusal notes. By transforming informal deferral requests into a structured, time-sensitive process, this model safeguards patient autonomy while ensuring timely and legally defensible medical care.
