Abstract

AbstractIn the digital age, YouTube serves as a major resource for learning Arabic. Language and cultural variances necessitate the need for translation to comprehend the messages conveyed in the videos. The purpose of this study is to analyze translation techniques in the speech of the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar on the YouTube channel of Sanad Media Account, specifically focusing on the translated text entitled "The Urgency of Values in the Brotherhood Charter in Achieving World Peace". The research method uses a qualitative approach with content analysis, taking data from YouTube videos and analyzing translation techniques from Arabic to Indonesian by referring to Molina and Albir's theory. The results of the analysis show that 14 out of 19 translation techniques suggested by Al Farisi based on Molina & Albir's theory are used in translating Arabic texts from the subtitles of Sanad Media Account's YouTube videos. The most frequently used translation technique is transposition, with a frequency of 77 (19.74%). It is followed by the calce technique with a frequency of 60 (15.38%) and reduction with a frequency of 56 (14.36%). The amplification and linguistic amplification techniques have almost the same frequency, namely 37 (9.49%) and 34 (8.72%). The mutation technique has a frequency of 31 (7.95%), while modulation has a frequency of 26 (6.67%). Borrowing and matching techniques have lower frequencies, namely 18 (4.62%) and 13 (3.33%). The substitution technique has a frequency of 10 (2.56%). Then, literal, adaptation, and generalization techniques have the same frequency, namely 9 (2.31%) and linguistic compression techniques have the lowest frequency, 1 (0.26%). On the other hand, particularization, description, compensation, variation, and discursive techniques have no frequency because they are not used in the translation. Keywords: Arabic Speech; Translation Analysis; Transposition; YouTube

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the stylistics of the story of Prophet Musa and Khiḍr in Surah Al-Kahf, verses 60–82, focusing on morphological and semantic aspects. This study uses a descriptive-qualitative approach and content analysis. The data was collected through documentation techniques from primary sources such as Qur'anic verses and secondary sources such as tafsīr books, dictionaries, and relevant previous studies. The study results show that the morphological aspects of this story include letter omission, the choice of indefinite words, specific word patterns and forms, and shifts in pronouns, which create profound effects and impressions such as urgency, uniqueness, sincerity, brevity, broad meaning, and politeness. Meanwhile, from a semantic aspect, using synonyms, antonyms, and polysemy highlights the precision of word choice and enhances the message's clarity. These stylistic elements contribute to the beauty and persuasive power of the Qur'an, thereby deepening its meaning. This study emphasizes the importance of stylistic analysis in understanding the beauty of language, particularly in terms of word choice.

Abstract

Abstract

This research analyzes translation techniques in the official YouTube subtitles for the "Rarra Pain" episode and Google Translate results. With a descriptive qualitative approach, the main data is Indonesian text and Arabic translation from Google Translate and YouTube subtitles. Data collection techniques include documentation, observation, and analysis using content analysis to identify translation techniques. The results of the analysis show that Google Translate uses literal and automatic techniques that are less contextual and sometimes rigid. In contrast, YouTube subtitles exhibit a variety of more adaptive techniques such as literal, modulation, amplification, and reduction. YouTube subtitles more effectively convey messages with appropriate cultural and idiomatic nuances. For series like Nussa, which contain cultural nuances and colloquial language, YouTube subtitles effectively convey the message to Arabic-speaking viewers. This research provides important insights for the development of better translation techniques, especially for children's content.

Abstract

This study aims to explore Indonesian-Arabic translation strategies and their impact on translation quality. Using a qualitative method based on a literature review, data were collected through documentation techniques involving selecting and analyzing relevant sources. The Miles and Huberman data analysis model included data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research findings indicate that translation challenges include grammatical differences, ambiguities, cultural connotations, and meaning equivalence. Identified strategies include adaptation, amplification, reduction, domestication, and foreignization. Technology, such as online resources, also effectively supported the translation process. Moreover, a cultural approach and an in-depth understanding of the source text context are key to producing accurate and relevant translations. In conclusion, appropriate translation strategies and comprehensive contextual understanding are essential to improving the quality of Indonesian-Arabic translations. This study contributes to understanding effective translation practices and supports cross-cultural communication between these two languages.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the rhetorical structure of the methodology section in Arabic-language scientific articles written by native Arabic speakers and Indonesian speakers, particularly in linguistics and education. Using a qualitative approach and content analysis method, the study applies Zhang and Wannaruk’s (2016) Move and Step framework to identify rhetorical patterns and examine the use of tense and voice in the methodology section. The data were obtained from 80 journal articles—40 in education and 40 in linguistics—equally divided between Arab and Indonesian authors, selected through purposive sampling. The findings show that Move 2 (describing data collection procedures) is the most dominant (56.9%), indicating that the majority of authors place greater emphasis on technical and procedural aspects rather than research design (Move 1: 19.5%) or data analysis procedures (Move 3: 23.5%). Indonesian authors focus more on Move 2 (62.7%) than Arab authors (51.7%), while Arab authors demonstrate a more balanced structure across the three Moves. From a linguistic perspective, it was found that the use of Māḍi (past tense) is more dominant than Muḍāri’(present tense), especially in Moves 1 and 2, as these parts describe processes already carried out. Active voice is more frequently used in Moves 1 and 2, while passive voice is more dominant in Move 3 to maintain objectivity rather than emphasize the researcher’s role.
