Abstract

Nowadays, the function of language as a means of conveying messages to establish social interaction is somewhat neglected. Language is no longer a message, but has changed into a sentiment. This is represented in the form of hate speech and bullying that often occurs on social media by violating the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE). The purpose of this community service activity is to increase knowledge and skills about the form of hate speech and bullying texts in Indonesian language literacy for students and also knowledge about the right procedures or strategies to avoid hate speech and verbal bullying by others. In this training, two methods were applied, namely practice and simulation. The results of the community service activities showed that students experienced a significant increase in Indonesian language literacy to avoid hate speech and bullying. Before the delivery of the material, students scored 4,594. However, after the delivery of the material, there was an increase in student scores, namely 4,640. This increase illustrates the effectiveness of the activity program. Students experienced significant progress in terms of understanding or skills as measured by pretest and posttest.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the rules of subject ellipsis in subordinate constructions of the Acehnese language. The research employs a qualitative method using note-taking and document analysis techniques. The data for this study consists of written texts (complex/subordinate sentences) obtained from various sources, such as Acehnese language books and Acehnese grammar books. Additionally, data from artificial sources were also included. The results show that there are rules for subject ellipsis in subordinate constructions. The rules are as follows: First, the presence of shared understanding (mafhum). In a subordinate construction, there are two types of constituents: those that are explicitly mentioned and those that are understood. The explicitly mentioned constituent is one that is clearly stated, while the understood constituent is one that is inferred from the context of the construction. This means that the understood constituent is omitted because it is already comprehended from the previous constituent. Generally, the understood constituent appears after the explicitly mentioned constituent. Second, both constituents function as subjects. This rule explains that one of two constituents with the same reference can be omitted if both serve as subjects in the clause. Third, there is a difference in syntactic functions. This means that subject ellipsis in subordinate clauses can still occur as long as the controlling constituent does not share the same function as other constituents in the main clause (the controlled constituent functions as the subject, while the controlling constituent can function as the subject, object, complement, or adverbial).

Abstract

This study aims to identify which long vowel sounds (chouon) in Japanese can be easily pronounced and which are difficult for the Deli Husada Institute of Health students in Deli Tua. This research method employs voice analysis using the Praat application to evaluate the students' pronunciation. Praat was used to analyze the duration, frequency, and intensity of participants' voices. The Praat application will record, segment, and analyze the students' voices. The data consists of voice recordings from the six participants when pronouncing vocabulary containing chouon sounds. The findings indicate that there are variations in errors in the pronunciation of certain vowels, such as the vowel /u/ in "yuumei," the vowel /e/ in "meishi" and "heiya," and the vowel /o/ in "ooku," among the students of the Deli Husada Institute of Health. Words with long sounds are also rarely pronounced correctly due to a lack of practice. Vocabulary such as "obaasan," "ojiisan," and "sakkaa" is more often pronounced correctly because they are frequently used in daily learning. Participants who allocated more time to study showed a higher degree of pronunciation similarity to native speakers. Overall, the frequency of usage and conversational learning significantly influence pronunciation ability.

Abstract

This study seeks to identify and analyze semantic shifts in vocabulary from the Proto-Austronesian (PAN) language to the Mandailing language, employing a comparative historical linguistic approach. The principal data sources are a Proto-Austronesian vocabulary list and a collection of basic vocabulary obtained directly from native Mandailing speakers. The selected vocabulary items demonstrate similarities in both form and meaning. Data were collected using in-depth interviews with native Mandailing speakers to gather authentic and contextually relevant vocabulary and semantic data. Additionally, participatory observations were conducted to capture the context of vocabulary usage in everyday life that can affect changes in meaning. Data analysis was conducted through a process of data condensation, followed by the organization and presentation of the findings in descriptive narratives. Subsequently, data interpretation and conclusion drawing were carried out based on patterns and themes that emerged from the presented data. The results of the study revealed four main types of changes in meaning: broadening, narrowing, bifurcation, and shifting. This study contributes to the fields of historical linguistics and semantics, highlighting the importance of understanding meaning changes within the broader context of the linguistic and cultural evolution of the Mandailing people.

Agreements in problem solving can be in the form of compromises, (d) Withdrawing (Withdrawing) the withdrawing strategy is implemented by leaving an increasingly heated debate, in the hope of avoiding emotional harm and keeping the situation from getting worse., and (e) Inaction (Silence) This strategy is temporary and can provide time for the parties involved to reflect or observe the development of the situation before making further decisions.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the kinship relationship between Riau Malay and Sundanese languages ??seen from some vocabularies similarities. The method used is descriptive qualitative and quantitative with note-taking technique. The research data is formed of vocabulary in BMR and BS obtained from various written sources and informant interviews. Based on 200 Swadesh words for BMR and BS, there are 12,5%, namely 25 identical pairs words. This data proves that BMR and BS are not closely related because the vocabulary similarities are less than 36% or part of the sub-grouping. Vowel relatives couples different by 16 data or about 18%; 3 relatives couples have different pairs of consonants or about 1.5%; 5 relatives couples or about 2.5% who have one syllable difference; and 9 relatives couples or about 4.5% who have one consonant phoneme difference. The results of the study found that the percentage of kinship between the two languages ??was 29% which indicated that the BMR and BS were the languages ??of the family from one family (stock).BMR and BS are thought to be the same prelanguage around 2,856 years ago and are estimated to have started to separate from their parent languages ??in 833 BC (calculated in 2023)
